  • Getting it Right? 2013 – Helen Grime » aaronhollowaynahum.com
a workshop and performance because this helps her resist the urge to make sudden or drastic changes to a piece Grime further said that she rarely if ever makes large changes to a piece but that one of the primary uses to her of workshops is that they give her confidence to explore and compose music with the confidence that she will have the chance to hear and revise it before it reaches a public performance Perhaps this seems unusual but Helen described her normal experience of hearing a piece for the first time as almost always being disappointment Virga is an interesting piece to hear Grime describe then as the piece has gone on to be performed by seven of the world s top orchestras and conductors Rather than increasing anxiety Grime experienced this proliferation as a sort of release finding she was finally able to stand outside the work and enjoy it for what it is Grime s time concluded with a brief excerpt from her recent BBCSO Proms commission Night Songs Though this piece came to performance without a workshop and Grime does intend to make small changes to some of the opening passages she described herself
