    Mary Gerges and the Museum of Coptic Cairo to feast your eyes upon the beautiful Christian arts of design Then take a nice long stroll through Islamic Cairo and explore many mosques and the Museum of Islamic Cairo where you will be taken through a beautiful journey into the arts and crafts of the Islamic era You can end your visit to Islamic Cairo by shopping and having a great authentic night out in Khan el Khalili For people who are more interested in having fun and going out dancing alone or with friends Cairo offers a loud and lively night life You can also hit the bars when you need to have a quiet dinner and listen to relaxing music Almost every bar in Cairo has a schedule that includes both loud and quiet nights One of the most recommended places where you are guaranteed to have a great chilled out night is at the Cairo Jazz Club Although only a bit pricey you are sure to have fun and meet very nice people If you have a tight budget and don t want to spend much you can visit the Greek Club in Downtown Cairo where you can have dinner and a drink for a very good price and meet many interesting intellectual people since many artists hang out there For an even lower budget and a very Egyptian night out you can have dinner at one of the Egyptian restaurants around Al Tahrir Square and then head to a nice Egyptian Café called Al Horriyya where you can have a beer and meet very interesting people and artists Many cultural centers are located all over Cairo providing shows and exhibitions of the work of Egyptian artists primarily and international artists on occasion From music and dance shows

    lamps pottery and even making candies that is sold to kids in shapes of dolls in the Mulid which is the day celebrating Prophet Mohammed s birth You will be able to see all these crafts in action and it is one of the many beautiful things you can experience walking around the Islamic quarter of Old Cairo There are also many bazaars where you can buy beautiful artistic and crafty antiques home accessories clothes and many other items that are all handmade and portray the Egyptian culture from ancient Egypt to Islamic Egypt My favorite place for shopping for gifts or personal items with real cultural authenticity would be Khan el Khalili in Al Hussein area The best thing about Khan el Khalili is that as you do your shopping you can stop by the many coffee shops and restaurants that serve real Egyptian foods drinks and shisha for a rest and a delicious cheap authentic Egyptian meal Khan el Khalili is usually packed with tourists and all the sellers are very friendly and speak several languages I personally think that the best time to do the shopping is during the day During the night I love to sit in one of the very famous coffee shops like Al Fishawy or Nageeb Mahfouz coffee shop and enjoy a lovely fresh juice during the summer or a great hot and spicy cup of hummus chickpea drink during the cold winter nights This is an experience best enjoyed when shared with a big group of people but is not at all less significant when enjoyed with a few people or even by yourself observing the beautiful Cairene life Around Khan el Khalili in the rest of Al Hussein area you will find many mosques that you can visit to experience the

    floor The ground floor of the Egyptian Museum contains a large collection of papyrus and coins from Ancient Egypt including some Greek Roman and Islamic coins There are also some artifacts from the New Kingdom on the ground floor such as statues and coffins On the first floor you can explore antiquities from the last two dynasties of Ancient Egypt including items from the tombs of the Pharaohs of that period The most popular room in the Egyptian Museum which is located on the first floor is the room that houses the tomb of the King Tut Ankh Amun which was discovered complete and intact in the Valley of the Kings Although the king s reign was not a significant one since he only ruled for 8 years and died at the age of eighteen he is one of the most famous kings of Ancient Egypt thanks to the discovery and display of his whole tomb The room displays all the items found in King Tut s tomb and visiting the Egyptian Museum without taking a look at this beautiful discovery would be a shame The fee to enter the museum is 20 Egyptian pounds for non Egyptians The Egyptian Museum also includes a room that contains 9 royal mummies on display However an extra fee of 40 Egyptian pounds is required in order to enter the royal mummies room and additional fees apply if you want to take photographs or record videos If your budget is not incredibly low you will find that the fees are insignificant and worth spending A big library is also found in the Egyptian Museum where many books are found on Ancient Egyptian civilization including history mathematics arts literature and so on The library contains over 40 000 books magazines and periodicals in various

    station The church of Saint George was built on the outer walls of a rounded Roman tower and therefore is one of the very few remaining rounded churches From the church you can descend a flight of steps down to the Roman tower The Church of Saint George is known for its beautiful artistic stained glass windows that display Christian arts which during the day let the sunbeams filter through into the church Along with the heavy incense the beams of light create a beautiful relaxing spiritual atmosphere On April 23rd a huge Coptic festival is held in celebration of the Moulid birth celebration of Saint Mary Gerges and is a great cultural way to spend the day if you re in Cairo The greatest and most important of these churches would be Hanging Church The Hanging Church was built above the gatehouse of the Roman fortress in Old Cairo and is considered the most important religious destination representing the Coptic culture in Cairo especially for its rich representation of the 2nd century which embraces you the minute you walk into the Church after climbing the 23 marble steps that lead to the entrance Although the church is relatively small in area its rich interior is very overwhelming with the beautiful artwork that displays so many stories of Jesus and the Holy Family When you leave the church you will find a lot of Bazaars where you can buy souvenirs and cultural gift items from very friendly vendors Another must see in Coptic Cairo is the Coptic Museum Leaving Old Cairo without a visit to this museum packed with outstanding Christian artwork would be a shame This museum houses the largest collection of Coptic Christian artwork in the world and anyone interested in the artistic a representation of the Christian
