I think most people agree and hold to a common morality Most cultures throughout history have all clung to the same basic moral precepts such as do not kill do not steal do not rape your brothers donkey etc I also think that most people in the right situation would bend most if not all of these ethical guidelines The problem comes in the continual slow bending of these ideals until they are no longer being applied and held to Yes the slippery slope argument may be a logical fallacy but the slippery slope is a moral reality And one we must constantly struggle with The constant battle between freedom and law is one constantly being fought but I am glad it s being fought Yes I may not agree with the ACLU but thank God we have morons like them to help keep us in check I think the lazy part of our nature longs and yearns for a society with no competition no checks no balances one in which all of our ideas will be followed out but only a fool craves that Entropy being what it is and people being who they are it s only a matter of time before any political ideal gets twisted to an extreme that s hardly recognizable and I think the beauty of this country is the creative friction that exists in all of our political debates Yes you may be an idiot for thinking differently but thank you for having the passion to engage me It s when apathy takes over that we re in for a real nightmare Posted in thoughts politics 1 comment to Politics 09 November 2006 01 39 am Wayward Son 01 OK here I go Please consider this a discussion that serves as much to

the ceremonial aspect of the law Christ did not abolish the Old Testament but fulfilled the Law meaning that the ceremony the sacrifice and our sin were done away with That doesn t mean he abolished the Ten Commandments or His moral will I am also for capital punishment because it is the only just response to murder Imagine that your neighbor steals your car and gets to keep his How is that just The same thing with murder It is unjust that when one person takes the life of another they should be allowed to enjoy what they have deprived someone else of How is that just Also capital punishment is a deterrent Some will say no its not but I like Ernest Van De Haag s idea Lets punish murders done on Monday Wednesday and Friday with capital punishment and the rest of the week we will punish it with life in prison What days do you think murders are going to go down Lastly capital punishment is NOT about revenge I don t believe in revenge and I think when we execute someone we should do so sadly and not out of anger or spite It is a duty we do because its just not because we are sadists who enjoy the murder of other That is why I am for making executions as painless and quick as possible We are taking someone s life We shouldn t celebrate that We should mourn the need to Basically your stance on capital punishment speaks about how you value human life Do you think it something that is so violent and despicable of a crime that the punishment must fit the crime Or do you think that one person dead really isn t all that big of a deal

rules of nature If you believe that this miracle didn t happen then you are on much less secure ground First of all we know that the body was not in the tomb If Jesus body was still in the tomb the High Priest and Jesus other enemies would have said so Instead they claimed that the disciples stole the body Now that statement is a bit hard to swallow We are to believe that a few Palestinian peasants and fishermen overcame a group of highly trained Roman soldiers But if they DID take Jesus body that means that they lied about Christ rising from the dead This again makes no sense They didn t gain anything by lying What they DID get was imprisoned killed harassed and persecuted And not once did any one of them recant or say it was all a lie Something happened to make 12 frightened and terrified fishermen and peasants into fearless preachers who faced their own deaths with peace Now some of you believe that the Bible is unreliable that it has been changed and errors have crept in If that is the case where is the original version You can only say something is changed if you know the state of the original So where is it And what did it say In fact you cant answer that because most people who claim this only do so because things in the text bother them so the say it HAD to have been changed But did it Is it possible that when the writers say they saw Jesus raised from the dead that they meant it Is it possible that they in fact DID say it Its not only possible but probable We have more textual evidence for the accuracy of the Bible than we do for the works of Plato The Bible by far has the most archeological support and textual backing than any other ancient book In conclusion I would like to say this I am not an apologist or a theologian I have no formal training or schooling in either area As such I refer you to the following books because people much wiser and smarter than me argue the subject much more powerfully Mere Christianity by C S Lewis The Case For Faith by Lee Strobel Resurrection by Hank Hanegraaf Between Heaven and Hell by Peter Kreeft Posted in thoughts religion 10 comments to Religion 09 November 2006 01 38 am tbonekkt 01 Sagi SQL guru Have you been smokin again 09 November 2006 01 38 am Rohan 02 A good insight to your thoughts on christianity religion I am too a believer of christ attend The Salvation Army I enjoyed reading your article thoughts Cheers 09 November 2006 01 38 am Brenton 03 I have read two of the four books you referred to and can vouch for the rationality of the evidence they present Of course I am also not formally trained and am far from an

victim It only adds one more victim and one who s blood lies on the mothers hands What about cases in which the child is born handicapped or mentally impaired The child cant have a normal life First let me ask you please define normal life Then once you do that let me ask how do you know your definition is correct Who are we to determine who has a normal life and who does not Some people would say that obese people cannot have a normal life Some could say that children with glasses cannot lead a normal life Now some would say that the obese and those with glasses can have productive lives and still do something True but why should we determine who lives and dies based on how useful they are to us Here is what I am saying Having or being a mentally handicapped child cannot be easy I would never make light of others struggles But there is something seriously wrong with this world when we would execute someone because its too hard to be alive Winston Churchill once said A kite flies higher against the wind Struggles shape our character and make us better people Or simply put I could never nor do I think anyone else should be able to presume that unless someone else s life fits into their idea of normal that they will kill them But the fetus isn t conscious intelligent aware breathing etc When you are asleep you are neither aware nor conscious I shouldn t be able to execute you because of that As for intelligent let me say something We cannot kill someone because of the amount of intelligence they have Having more intelligence or knowledge does not give someone that right Ill give an example I say this not to brag but to make a point Ever since I was a kid I have taken placement and aptitude tests and I am what s known as 90th percentile intelligent meaning I am smarter than 90 of the people in the country well at least academically So does that mean that since I am smarter than most people in this country do I now have the right to kill 90 of the population If not why not I am more intelligent and I could make a case that their lives will never be as productive or meaningful as mine The fact is someone s mental ability is not a reason to execute them You re not a woman so you ll never understand Ill never understand what exactly How it is to be a woman Of course I wont Nor will a woman understand how it is to be a man But when talking about morality and actions that are right or wrong gender has nothing to do with it If it was then some things that are wrong for men will be okay for women and vice versa Also that allows us all to

from less than most My dad was a perfect example of God s blessings and God s grace Studies have shown that the way a person views God is usually a reflection of their relationship with their father Most famous atheists had little or no relationship with their father But my view of God God is gracious because my dad showed me how to be God is abundantly giving because my dad showered us with gifts God sacrifices because my dad went without so that I could prosper My dad showed me what God s love is because my dad loved me so much I know better who God is because my dad showed me My dad never dismissed or ignored my brothers or me Going back to when I was really young I remember my dad having conversations with me My father never questioned what I was capable of only if I was living up to it My father pushed me to be my best and cheered for me through all of my failures and to all of my successes Mark Twain once said Really great people make you feel that you too can become great My father made everyone feel like they too were great My dad was by no means a perfect man but if I were given an eternity to imagine a better father he d be no different than the man who raised me Posted in miscellaneous 10 comments to Goodbye Dad 22 December 2006 03 25 pm Cristie 01 I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss I don t know you but if I did I would give you big hugs I don t normally comment on blogs but you touched me your dad touched me and I m going to call and tell my dad I love him because of you 22 December 2006 03 25 pm Tom 02 Nate I m sorry to hear of this My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family 22 December 2006 03 25 pm s33r 03 I m sorry to hear your father has passed and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family I m sure your dad would have loved your speech at his funeral and I m sure it made him smile Take care Nate 22 December 2006 03 25 pm corey 04 Nate I am so absolutely sorry for your loss I m a few weeks away from the 5 year anniversary of losing my mother to Leukemia and the 4 year anniversary of losing my father to a heart attack both on 2 3 I can empathize with your feeling of loss the baseball bat to the face and the hope in seeing them face to face with God as your witness Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours during this time 22 December 2006 03 25 pm Andrew 05 I have no idea who you are I arrived

background and some things that don t make sense to me Now admittedly I could be wrong about them but if so I would love to have some feedback OO is non existent or unintelligible I want to write Object Oriented Javascript and I want it to be easy When I create an object I want to be able to set what this points to Does it point to the calling object does it point to the clicked item etc Prototype handles this well by allowing you to set the object via bind eg JSObject add param bind obj and inside of JSObject s add method this points to obj rather than to the JSObject class I would love to find a way to easily control this and know this inside of an object Re Setting an elements class is retarded Almost everything else in jQuery has a very easy to remember function for setting attributes such as src for image sources href for link href s but why is it to set an element s class or completely reset it I have to do this element removeClass currentClass addClass newClass Why not element class newClass No forums I have heard this is in the works but honestly I will buy the domain and even pay for the vBulletin license if we could get this officially out there sooner Element confusion This is something I am sure just takes some getting used to but it would be nice for us Prototype developers to grasp if it was explained and detailed somewhere it might already be though I ll give an example var el element 1 Points to element 1 var el2 el next el now points to the it s sibling rather than returning the next object Now as I understand it the way to return the sibling to el2 is to do this var el2 el next el2 now points to the sibling and el points to the original For me that s hard because everytime I use I feel as if there goes one more performance hit Now jQuery could be optimized for it but it makes me panic something fierce as I want to have very lean code and having extraneous function calls hurts my delicate sensibilities Overall though jQuery is turning out to keep hitting that perfect sweet spot for me I will also love prototypes wonderfully elegant object oriented look but at the same time jQuery is rocking my boxers off The only thing that could make me happier is if jQuery started implementing some very Prototype like functionality P S You ll notice I didn t mention anything about jQuery s XPath or CSS 3 support but it is by far one of the coolest freakin features around Also not mentioned but worth mentioning here is jQuery s speed vs Prototype s function Posted in miscellaneous 2 comments to Prototype vs jQuery 10 December 2006 02 37 pm Rick 01 Nice comment form I
