I m no bigger and all my new clothes still fit me fine great and in the grand scheme of things 2 lbs is not a lot but I just want it gone and at the moment I can t shift it Next week I am going to reduce the amount I am drinking to see if I am retaining excess water even when I was a kid I have always drank a lot so that might be tough for me If it is just water I am not massively bothered as that can fluctuate but if it s fat I need it gone I m not stressing about it but it is so frustrating as I know a lot of you are still going through in your weight loss plans Good luck everyone in their ongoing journey as I go back for a little re visit to mine http uk atkins com community forums thread 138148 tough to shift page 3 dis post 246698 Fri 27 Nov 2015 12 33 06 0000 http uk atkins com community forums thread 136412 binge eating problems page 7 dis post 239816 Just thought I would report back from the world of maintenance Unfortunately my new job makes it much harder for me to post on the forum as regularly as I used to Anyway since I started maintenance and even phase 3 I have been experimenting with more carbs both lower on the ladder and some less appropriate treats such as birthday cakes etc And each time I indulged I would find myself heading off into a binge again and I would always blame it on the carbs Then I went to Paris for the weekend and ate normally for three whole days There were carbs with every meal but portions were always sensible someone else was providing all my food I felt really great about this There were no cravings and no binges All fine until the moment I walked back into my own house and whoosh off I went on a binge This really got me thinking Was it all about the carbs or was something else going on here I began to realise that my problems are now predominantly mental rather than physical Having lost all the weight I had no motivation to keep the old habits away So I have now started on a slightly new journey I have been reading a few books about eating disorders and more specifically binge eating disorder It turns out that this is a very common problems and strongly linked to cycles of dieting and food restriction I am starting a self help plan today and I will report back with the results For the most part I will still remain low carb Like all of us I am still in search of a happy and relaxed way of life that does not involve constantly thinking about food calories weight and body image http uk atkins com community forums thread 136412 binge eating problems page 7 dis post 239816 Tue 29 Sep 2015 09 23 49 reached the maintenance phase hoorah dis post 239022 http uk atkins com community forums thread 137468 nearly a year in maintenance dis post 237516 A couple of people have asked me of late how I am doing in maintenance as it s been 9 months now and 15 months on Atkins I m doing well still mainly within 2lbs of my goal weight of 13 stone having started at 16 stone I am still eating a largely induction style menu but not worrying to much about extras like a cup of Hi Lites hot chocolate on a cold evening or scoop of low fat ice cream on a hot day I suppose I ve settled into maybe 10 meals that I vary through a fortnightly rotation but when that menu includes pizza chips cauliflower cheese etc how can you feel like you re missing out I have an Atkins bar probably every other day out of convenience but I enjoy them and I haven t given into any bad thoughts of sugary treats I m back full time to playing football this season and feel like a different person with the weight off and it is so noticeable in terms of speed and agility I made it through the cricket season and the cricket teas issue I ve had to deal with When things like that arise now I just do the best I can to get through it so

you do 2 weeks of induction to correct I m trying to figure out foods that lead me astray have been doing some blood sugar testing to spot the baddies they re the obvious ones but even the good versions are bad in reality I have also found that reduced eating hours helps probably not eating after 6 or 7pm is more powerful for me than not eating until 10am or noon If you can stick to the window it becomes harder to eat too much within it and I think insulin blood sugar levels benefit from longer periods without food intake 353 Posts Send PM Lesley Reply 3 4 days 5 hours ago I have been maintaining since October in general it hasn t been too bad I have been within 1lb of my target weight except after holidays when I have been 3lbs over increase in alcohol induced I never say I m not allowed that I just say I don t eat that and that has helped me mentally to automatically reject high carb foods I do occasionally have a piece of toast or some porridge but occasionally means not more than once in 2 weeks Life does get in the way birthdays holidays Xmas new year etc but I have decided stick to my way of eating for most of these occasions as when you add them up over the year they are numerous Alcohol is the only thing I indulge in regularly I don t have a sweet tooth so I can reject these things easily I bake bread scones cakes etc every week for the rest of the family but I never feel like eating them myself Also I don t freak out if for some reason I do eat inappropriately l just forget it I think a lot of it is your mental attitude it can be done 162 Posts Send PM jenny Reply 4 3 days 21 hours ago I have reduced my eating window as last year when my son changed school and we were getting up ridiculously early I realised I was eating breakfast with my son at 7am and then feeling peckish again by 10am and having something else It was a stressful time with the school change and I know I was reaching for the wrong foods For the first 6 months of my maintenance I did manage to reign things in if I went 4 lbs over my target weight but I do think I have a bit of a sabotaging mental weakness and seemed to let things slip almost daring to see if I would put it all back on I know that sounds crazy but I wish I understood why I would sabotage having slimmed down to a size 10 and having a fantastic pair of white skinny jeans Gutted but determined to try again Our specialists Linda Nutritionist Colette Nutritionist New Atkins is based on years of scientific research and backed by medical experts

  • Hello | Atkins diet - Atkins™ Low Carb Diet
9 hour flights where options we limited and a lot of the time we were eating in parks like Disney which isn t really a haven for healthy low carb eating However I accepted it and got on with it I ate some wonderful food but with 2 3 days to go I was craving discipline structure and vegetables Since being back we ve been straight back on the horse with omelettes salads and veg laden meals I have no idea how much I weigh and I have no intention on checking for a while now but it is nice to know that my mind is forever changed that in the land of plenty and wonderful plenty at that my mind is still set to eating low carb and actually missing my way of life Fingers crossed it s not too bad when I weigh eventually but I know at least that whatever it is will go in time with Atkins 180 Posts Send PM Lindsey Reply 25 1 month ago That is a great post and great that you can enjoy your holiday and have a bit of what you fancy and still remain motivated 1 2 3 Our specialists Linda Nutritionist Colette Nutritionist New Atkins is based on years of scientific research and backed by medical experts Meet our Science team and Nutritionist and ask them anything Ask for help We did it Cheryl Lawson I ve replaced bad refined starchy carbohydrates which are packed with sugar with good carbs such as lots of low sugar fruits and non starchy vegetables Read more Lynn Hathaway When Lynn Hathaway 44 saw a holiday snap of herself at 15st 7lbs sat next to her young daughter she was shocked into action Read more Paul Timmins Having struggled with his weight

  • How many grams of carbs maintains your weight? | Atkins diet - Atkins™ Low Carb Diet
carbs very slowly and one at a time so you can isolate food sources that cause you the most problems 353 Posts Send PM Lesley Reply 8 1 month 2 weeks ago I personally think the way to do it is very slowly Granted I only had 10 lbs to lose it took just over 13 weeks but the final phase I was losing as little as 0 1 to 0 2 lbs a week I had to juggle certain foods a little so bread couldn t be eaten more than once a week porridge is no problem rice and pasta for special meals I can maintain eating 100g a day if I have a couple of indulgent days I have to cut back to 60g using mainly foundation veg carb I would say it feels fairly natural the way I eat but I don t obsess over going totally off plan like on holiday I would like to maybe lose a few more pounds but so far I haven t really tried I have managed to stay within 1lb over or under my original target weight since last Oct except on holiday when I have had a 3 lb gain each time When you reach your target weight you mustn t think I ve done it now I can relax you have to realise some peoples everyday staples like bread pasta rice etc are your special occasion or treat foods It does get easier and I can say the only thing I sometimes miss is crisps and I do have 25g of them occasionally Anyone can maintain but they must have the correct mindset 3 902 Posts Send PM Phil Reply 9 1 month 2 weeks ago Portion size is a big deal my wife made some scones which were about an inch across and while strapped to a blood glucose meter I observed that I could eat one of them with little impact When I had a typical working lunch thanks Diabetes UK oh the irony with two small sandwiches and a few potato wedges the blood glucose took off As a measure of how individual this is my reading peaked about 9 0 mmol l a Type 2 diabetic present hit 15 0 and a lady from Public Health England only got to 5 5 So as well as grams of carbs per day I think one also has to consider grams of carbs per meal I also think there s a cumulative effect where a few days with a few too many carbs will fill the tanks up and see me sat with a high fasting blood sugar and very low or zero ketones Work off the carbs with exercise or a prolonged period of tight control and the blood glucose comes down below 5 and the ketones rocket and I start to get high scores again on my Peak brain training app The scale also starts to dip downwards As I appear to a bit
