  • Cholesterol Shock! | Atkins diet - Atkins™ Low Carb Diet
giving those a go because I don t want to go back to eating bread pasta and rice Feeling a bit desperate 23 Posts Send PM Anne Reply 93 6 months 2 weeks ago Dear Kathryn I am so sorry this is happening and like everyone else don t understand it Just this week I got my own cholesterol results which showed a considerable drop in my count since going on Atkins I don t know if it is just the weight loss effect or the Atkins effect I have had high cholesterol for some time unlike you I am quite sure you must have been in ketosis much of the time which implies that it does not work the way it s supposed to or as someone else said there may be another issue like thyroid However I agree with you you have to get your numbers back to normal and taking a break from Atkins may be the only option Please stay on this site so that we can all support you I am so grateful for the time and effort you have put into helping others including myself Quote from Kathryn at Jun 16 2015 06 03 PM I really don t know what I m going to do I ve just had my cholesterol results back and they are sky high Before I started Atkins I had it done Feb 2012 and it was 3 9 with HDL at 4 6 and LDL at 1 2 My results today were a whopping 10 3 with HDL at 8 4 and LDL at 8 0 and I have been summoned to the doctors on Friday The only thing that s changed is my diet and I know they are either going to give me statins which I will refuse and be told to change to a low fat diet Everything I ve been working towards feels like it has come completely unravelled I had a feeling it was high because I ve had some yellow blemishes on my eyelids for some time which are Xanthelasmas or cholesterol deposits under the skin I feel I m going to have to bid a fond farewell to Atkins because nothing has changed about me except eating high fat and I know that before I started it was normal Thinking about the lower carb versions of SW or WW and giving those a go because I don t want to go back to eating bread pasta and rice Feeling a bit desperate 13 983 Posts Send PM Ellen Reply 94 6 months 2 weeks ago that was in June Anne Kathryn is considerably improved since then still with Atkins Check nthe cholestorol update thread 23 Posts Send PM Anne Reply 95 6 months 2 weeks ago Thank you Ellen I have to remember to check the date on the messages Quote from Ellen at Oct 06 2015 12 41 PM that was in June Anne Kathryn is considerably improved since then

  • Problems sleeping | Atkins diet - Atkins™ Low Carb Diet
for the insight Lesley glad to hear it s not just me I ve only just started the 2nd week on the course but next week is when they introduce sleep restriction so I m not looking forward to that Linda be interested to hear your views on the subject regarding a lack of sleep and weightloss According to my Fitbit app my weekly calorie deficit is around to 5500 mark which really should equate to around 1 5lbs loss per week but as you know I ve not lost a single pound this year I ve been scouring the internet and there are tons of articles that support this theory and as I ve ruled out any other cause then this seems the most likely explanation 75 Posts Send PM Niki Reply 7 8 months 3 weeks ago I went through a period of not being able to sleep a few years ago when I went through a relationship breakdown difficulty getting off to sleep and then waking every hour someone suggested reflexology so I gave it ago one session and I was cured It totally sorted me out 6 455 Posts Send PM Linda Reply 8 8 months 3 weeks ago Hi Kathryn having such disordered sleep patterns will be affecting your cortisol levels and yes this can affect weight loss and this seems particularly so for abdominal fat I ve heard really good things about CBT so hopefully this will work out for you Have you tried Valerian I ve used it in the past for sleep and it helped a lot tincture form was best I found 36 Posts Send PM mkcollins Reply 9 8 months 3 weeks ago My fitbit has me having a restful sleep for between 4 and 5 hours a night the rest of the time I am tossing and turning So i sympathise with feeling rough most days i wake at least 13 18 times every night Interestingly a few nights ago I had 3 wines before bed serious hangover the next day and my pattern of sleep was so different I woke up just twice in the night and was completely out to it the rest of the time It looked on paper as the best night sleep ever but i was sick the next morning i am not recommending alcohol as the route to a better sleep but it certainly shows that what we eat or drink can affect our sleep I think of a lack of sleep as a stress response for the body Our body sees the loss of shuteye as stress it focuses on that and spends lots of resources trying to function during the day Those are the very same resources that should be effectively using food for energy Any type of stress will affect weightloss I am assuming you are avoiding screen time before bed taking vitamin D turning down the lights before bedtime Also look into melatonin and its relationship with sleep A
