    will welcome you on board for your first trip and invite you under their guidance to become involved in running the vessel If you have sailed before the crew will encourage you to develop the skills you have and progress to a new level Accommodation On board trainees will be accommodated in bunks The forward cabin of the ship makes place for 2 bunks The main saloon has a total of 7 bunks of which 4 are permanent curtained bunks 2 are seats bunks and lastly one cotberth Specifications Class C Flag UK Length 13 5m Rig Bm Sloop Year Built 1972 Home Port Hartlepool UK Entered By Sailing North East Trainees and crew on board 10 History Black Diamond of Durham was commissioned in 1972 for her original owner Lt Cdr Lewis RN who fitted her out to his own specification and raced her on the south coast In the early 1990s Black Diamond was purchased by the Farimar Trust who stripped and refitted her for sail training She was used in the North East of England for sail training offering a sailing experience to young people from a disadvantaged background Black Diamond has not missed a Tall Ships Race since then Purchased by Sailing North East in 1999 she has been refitted again for a different type of client Corporate Entertainment and Teambuilding along with normal sail training Black Diamond is well known on the North East Coast again and along with the Tall Ships Races often visits Norway Germany and Holland English Nederlands Nieuws LAST Log Captain Stad Amsterdam Richard Slootweg Everything has a last time A few months ago I started my last term on board the Clipper Stad Amsterdam and soon it became the last cruise the last time in the US last departure last transatlantic also the last journey the last day sail last time anchoring last time anchor up and then a tricky one the last arrival This act in itself was not very difficult to someone sailing on the Clipper for the past eleven years and bringing the ship alongside would never cause beads of sweat on this captain s forehead No it is the realization that it is my last time Never again a cruise no more USA never a departure and at the end of this long list never again in charge of a nautical operation on this ship This feels really strange Although there will be a farewell party and drinks tonight to say goodbye to this captain and my spouse I feel that I have been offered the best possible farewell gift already After an early arrival at the Azores last Friday we dropped anchor in the shelter of Faial It was the most terrible rainy day of this trip The incessant drizzle turned Pico and Faial into nothing but a dark gray haze How melancholically for a captain ending his career on the clipper We were supposed to arrive in the port of Horta on Sunday and
