of Rosemary in the crust This only made me more inclined to try this recipe for myself which I did this past Sunday The sweet pastry base has a savoury hint of rosemary but I was surprised that it was not too much It married very well with the pears and orange custard to make a delightful dessert In all my cookbook reviews I include a sample recipe so my readers can try for themselves Recipes that I have tried and feel happy with recommending but making that choice from L art de la Table was proving difficult Should I choose the Pearl Barley and Roasted Carrot Salad Or the Chicken Drumsticks with Roasted Garlic and Cauliflower Mash Or even Moules Frites with Shrimp Bisque In the end after more umming and erring I decided to share the Pear Orange and Rosemary Tart I believe we will see and read more from Gintare Marcel Pear Orange and Rosemary Tart by Gintare Marcel There is a distinctive sweetness to the air that tags on the tail of each passing mistral in Provence At the height of summer when the sun is mighty and the air thick and intoxicatingly sweet with the scent of blooming rosemary each breath feels like a taste of sunshine When in winter the cold creeps in and the sun forgets to visit us as often I make this tart to breathe light and warmth into the house and to reminisce on far off sunny days Time 1 hour Servings 4 Sweet pastry 200g flour 50 sugar pinch salt 105g butter 1 egg lightly beaten 2 tbsp chopped rosemary Caramelized pears 2 conference pears 15g 1 tbsp butter 2 oranges juice only 1 tbsp honey Orange custard 250 ml 1 cup whole milk 2 oranges zest only 3 eggs 40 g cup minus 1 tbsp light brown sugar Combine the butter with the flour sugar and salt in the food processor Pulse everything for about 10 seconds until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs Add the finely chopped rosemary then beaten egg and continue pulsing until the dough starts to stick together Remove the dough from the food processor transfer onto a working surface and press it together using the palms of your hands but do not knead it Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and leave it to rest in a fridge for at least 30 minutes Preheat the oven to 200 C 400 F Roll out the pastry and press it into a 24 cm 9 inch tart base Leave in the fridge to rest for at least 20 minutes Take it out and prick the bottom of the tart in a few spots with a fork Place a sheet of baking paper on top of the pastry and fill the form with beans or baking weights to prevent the pastry from rising and bake for 15 minutes After 15 minutes remove the baking paper and the beans or baking weights and continue to bake for another 10

  • Martin Rump’s eyes have always been on the road
Rump But the main goal for this year is to get as much experience out of this series as I can and then to get recognized and to get an opportunity to further my racing That s the main thing to keep racing It s Rump s first time in the FMCS and after a career that has already seen him graduate from go karts to Formula Renault 2 0 Eurocup and Toyota Racing Series New Zealand the decision to spend a season racing around Asia looks set to pay dividends Driving for the Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG team Rump eventually goes three for three during his time in Taiwan thereby stretching his lead in the FMCS driver s championship at the halfway point of the six round series to 21 points over his nearest rival as racing turns now to the Kuala Lumpur Street Circuit in Malaysia for races 10 to 12 from August 7 9 Racing in the Euro Cup and in New Zealand was really tough but I gained experience and the reason I am here now is because I can keep learning and developing says Rump The FMCS tracks are very different the first two this year in Shanghai and Sepang were F1 tracks and now we have one here that is tighter with twists and bumps But to progress in this sport you have to test yourself you have to travel and you have to be prepared for hard work This is my first time racing in Asia and it s been challenging It s not just the fact that Rump is winning it s how he is winning that has the Penbay track buzzing Rump s natural often blistering speed sees him qualify in pole for each race after setting a new track record on the first day of practice and he never really gives the rest of the 16 car field a look in all weekend What drives me now is the thought of being the best that I can be says Rump It s about working towards the highest level of excellence that I can achieve and maybe being someone to look up to for a younger kid back home I want to be a role model and get as close to perfection in terms of my own skill as I can Rump is preparing to head to the University of Manchester to begin a degree in mechanical engineering in September but for the moment his mind is focused on the remaining rounds of the FMCS and on increasing his profile abroad and back home We only have a small population in Estonia of course but we have really good drivers in WRC like Ott Tanak and Marko Asmer and Kevin Korjus test driving in F1 and the go kart competition is really good he says To be honest I think at this stage more people know me on an international racing basis than at home This is a bit of

to recruit players I remember back in the day when I used to play you basically had to go door to door to beg someone to try out the sport Nowadays guys who play basketball run track or lift weights are very welcome to make an American football team Based on the very different physical roles expected from players in different positions everybody can find themselves a role in American football whether you re small fat or slow The progress of player s development can be especially swift if you ll add some American coaches to the mix like in the case of the Riga Lions team It doesn t hurt that those guys play and practice in a pretty nice sports facility Looking like a decent American high school arena the stadium is conveniently situated in Riga s downtown 63 Krisjana Valdemata street parallel to one of its busiest streets Doing football drills to the tune of cars passing by those guys kind of advertise themselves to unsuspecting town folk And if you drive by you ll have a lot to marvel about American football has it all brutal almost combat like fighting on the line of scrimmage by the behemoths of a players fast running and elegant catching by the most quick and agile athletes bone crunching tackles by the mean and ferocious guys playing defense and everything in between With a roster mostly full of young Latvian players one Lion who mans the most important position on the team stands out 31 year old Russian quarterback from Kaliningrad Stanislav Maksimov usually shouts those magic Hut Hut Hut words prior to the start of every offensive play And it happens not only in practices but during official games as well After losing the first one to more experienced Estonian Tartu Titans team Maksimov led Lions to the victory over Belarus Minsk Pagans 28 8 in early May This championship is poetically called Baltic Sea League and is a result of cooperation between Latvian and Belarus American football Federations For a time being it s the only American Football tournament in Eastern Europe that has participants from three different countries Latvia Riga Lions Estonia Tartu Titans and Belarus Vitebsk Lynxes Grodno Barbarians and Minsk Pagans Your home team Lions will play two more games during 2015 Baltic Sea League regular season this summer On August 9 they will travel to Grodno Belarus to take on Barbarians And on August 29 the Lions will wrap up the regular season against the Vitebsk Lynxes in Daugavpils And that s a great move to play one game away from the capital to promote American football all across Latvia League semifinal games are scheduled for Sept 19 and 20 if they make it that far So even if previously you thought that American football is nothing more than some rugby wannabe kind of sport I hope you ve changed your mind by now Maybe you even got hooked on this game of titans
