    Help Make Manitoba Barrier Free Spread the Word Endorse the Call Subscribe Follow Us on Twitter Join Us on Facebook To increase decrease the font PC ctrl ctrl MAC command command Will Political Parties and Debate Organizers Ensure the Accessibility of Election Events Jan 19 2016 The recent Customer Service Standard established under the landmark Accessibility for Manitobans Act requires that all provincial government departments and almost all other public sector organizations meet the following requirements to ensure the accessibility of public events by November 2016 and 2017 respectively An organization that holds a public event must take reasonable measures to ensure that a notice of the event is given in a manner that is accessible to persons disabled by barriers b the event is held in a meeting space that is accessible c the physical and communication needs of persons disabled by barriers are met on request and d notice is given that persons disabled by barriers may request that relevant supports be provided These requirements aren t rocket science and they aren t onerous They are just good practice and respectful of the basic human rights of Manitobans with disabilities At minimum that means holding events at accessibility

    Acts The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act AODA Other Resources Links Endorsers Effective Implementation Strong Legislation You Can Help Make Manitoba Barrier Free Spread the Word Endorse the Call Subscribe Follow Us on Twitter Join Us on Facebook To increase decrease the font PC ctrl ctrl MAC command command Manitoba s Public Library Branch at Front of Pack Jan 16 2016 Kudos to Manitoba s Public Library Branch for the leadership it has demonstrated in developing the draft Customer Service Toolkit for Libraries Beyond materials developed by the Disability Issues Office DIO this is the first such resource that has come to our attention that is designed to help public sector organizations comply with the landmark Accessibiity for Manitobans Act and the Customer Service Standard And even better the branch is asking for community feedback to make improvements before the toolkit is finalized Here s an excerpt from the email the branch sent to us yesterday In communities across Manitoba libraries play an essential role in providing access to information and act as an important meeting place for community members To support libraries in providing universal access and in compliance with the Accessibility for Manitobans Act and the Customer Service Standard Regulations the Public Library Services Branch developed a Customer Service Toolkit for Libraries The purpose of the document is to provide libraries with sample policies and processes which can support them in delivering services to members of their community who may have never used the library in the past Our goal is to ensure that the toolkit meets the needs of libraries and is responsive to the needs of the disability community across Manitoba In order to accomplish this goal we are releasing a review draft of the document for your feedback Please review the attached document and
