  • Bipolar & Relationships: Friendships Founded On Illness | bpHope - bp Magazine Community
will write you later this evening Have a day Ted Susan September 9 2015 Reply I enjoyed your article I met my husband at a mood disorders event He is bipolar 2 and I am bipolar 1 We had a whirlwind romance and married 6 months later It was and is so refreshing to have someone understand our illness and we are truly a strong force together Our relationship is based on one very important ingredient As part of our vows our secret vow is to always stay on our medication That to me is the secret to our success I am fortunate to have found such a wonderful man We never fight we discuss and when one of us has a low mood we don t take it personally and have the utmost understanding It has been 3 and a half years since we were married and I can t tell you enough how lucky and blessed I feel I know we are both lucky that we found each other s perfect match My family is also happy for us and so supportive Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth that healthy relationships can be had despite a bipolar diagnosis Thank you for your article and addressing this important topic Liz September 9 2015 Reply Your article hits home on a few different levels for me I had been raised to always be nice to people because you don t know what kind of monsters they re dealing with When I had my total breakdown right before Christmas of last year and was finally diagnosed with BP II and PTSD it made my connections and sympathies to the other oddballs make more sense Now that I m in a group therapy I m fighting with myself to not hang out with the people in group because the moderator has been encouraging us to I like several of them well enough to go out or have crafting night or some such but I m still trying to put my life back together and balance medication and I m afraid of being sucked into the upset and turmoil and tears that they bring with them weekly to group I really appreciate the emboldened statement in your article about how these types of friendships can turn destructive so I think for the moment until I feel a little more balanced myself I am justified in wanting to stay a little more private MMM September 17 2015 Reply OK I started a post here but had to delete and start over as I was getting to wordy This post really resonates with me I was diagnosed with BP I later in life I had my husband and my son who was 3 at the time I had a great job that I loved and thrived in for 12 years I was in marketing for a large physicians group 450 docs and loved meeting with docs to address their needs and then reporting to the board I was very social and fun loving Then I started to lose it My job performance was faltering and I was starting to feel weird I ended up losing my job due to my erratic behavior By that time I was feeling out of control With my husband s urging I sought help In short I ended up in an outpatient program for 30 days was on a free fall with meds I am highly sensitive to them and I was in a mixed state I ended up in the hospital for 10 days I literally dropped off the face of the earth and into treatment hell I was in and out of hospitals and didn t even know what was going on for a while I was that out of it During that time all of my friends turned their backs and walked away The one that did stay would talk with me but would NOT discuss my illness I could tell she was just horrified by it So we are still best friends but in name only and we don t see each other much I tried to make a new friend with a mom at my son s school but it imploded very quickly So I have literally stopped trying to make new friends I can t stand the absolute devastation that follows after the rejections I just don t feel that I could take it I now avoid human contact whenever I can I look out the window before getting my mail so I can see that nobody is out there that I would have to make conversation with I m just floating around alone and have become a hermit for the most part BP SUCKS R581 October 26 2015 Reply I got diagnosed with BiPolar II when I was in my 30 s My mother was in and out of mental hospital all the time I was growing up I felt the stigma of mental illness from a very early age and when I started getting help for my own illness I told no one about it Craziness is still hushed in families I didn t know my great grandmother died in a mental hospital until after I became a grown woman Good article I have enjoyed a few crazy friends that I ve lost but I have learned from them too so it was worth the turmul I hope my friendship was worth it for them too Felipe October 18 2015 Reply you forgot to add the bthicing part on youtube everyone is entitled to their opinion accusing people of something else or pretending to be something else is lying only to yourself I personally don t give a fuck it sucks that people live of our tax payments especially in the european union here but life sometimes sucks that s the truth Bipi October 26 2015 Reply Congrats I ve done the sabe with a Bio eBook Bipolario On
