  • Husband of 26 yrs Undiagnosed Bipolar/PD and nobody knows but - A Discussion About Bipolar | bpHope - bp Magazine Community
I thank God for the forced separations because I don t know how I would have otherwise been able to cope with his behavior He got out of the military in 1995 and went to work in a Fortune 100 company Here and there we attended marital therapy on and off to deal with our issues my anxiety my depression always about ME He once said I was the bipolar one but we really never got anywhere in marital therapy he is very charismatic and makes you LOVE him the minute you meet him so of course it was always easy for therapists to focus on me I continued with individual therapy for myself for many years and got on anti depressants with good results for a while I went back to college got my master s degree and now am a family therapist who frequently works with people with BPD and their families Ironic Denial Maybe The thing is NOBODY knows the truth of our situation He is very very successful and has been able to provide us with a very comfortable life The Big House the Mercedes private schools trips to Europe and plenty of financial resources to live very well He is a rock star in his job and is well known in his field of work I think we both have worked hard to maintain the façade of perfection The truth things are far from perfect With time and patience things got better The frequency of angry outbursts decreased he is more stable for longer periods of time I called our priest to bless our home as we had just moved in However after what happened on our anniversary I was forced to look in the mirror and accept reality He has a disease And it has nothing to do with me Currently he continues to drink excessively and since moving to the West Coast where marijuana is easily available smokes daily 4 5 scotches on a recent trip a bottle of wine every day He falls asleep and shows up like a winner to work every day He gets promotion after promotion Since he is giving me the silent treatment he spends him time downstairs shuffling to the kitchen to make himself drink after drink He will do whatever it takes to maintain the image of success to the outside world to the detriment of his family I suspect his silent treatment is pay back for whatever I did In a few days he will act like nothing every happened Needless to say I think he has apologized ONCE in the entire 26 years As for our anniversary lunch It was a last minute decision I texted him and he said sure Unbeknownst to me he had had an earlier lunch with co workers and had been drinking To cover it up he showed up ready to pick a fight with me to get the focus back on me I told him it had been
