  • Rekindling my passion in life - A Discussion About Bipolar | bpHope - bp Magazine Community
that we can be connected to As I mentioned before I seriously doubt unless your meds are off in some way that you are no longer a passionate and creative person The passion and desire to be creative are still there inside of you With every fiber of your being it s vitally important to start searching for new things to bring you back to the core person you are and always will be Bipolar is a wretched illness but highly treatable You just have to work very hard be tough as nails and Never Give Up Meaning and purpose in your life will come back it always does but we have to work for it Please feel free to stay engaged with us I hope you are comfortable here We support each other in the ways we are able to You re an important person no matter what your circumstances might be Peace Paige March 13 2015 at 6 49 am 115703 sweethomechicago Participant Hi polarmouse Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me It is so good to know I am not alone in this I think having patience is something I will have to cultivate within myself I tend to have an all or nothing attitude which really doesn t serve me well So I like what you re suggesting Now that it s getting warmer I m in New York I have started taking a few walks also and that really does help Some days I just don t have the motivation but I know I just have to make myself do it Thanks again for your insight March 13 2015 at 6 56 am 115704 sweethomechicago Participant Hi Paige Thank you so much for responding It is amazing to hear the similarities in our experiences I have tried to explain this to so many people that I can t return to the things I once loved because it s too painful and they just can t understand it I m so relieved to find that I am not the only one this has happened to And even more relieved to hear that you have found new things to replace them with I am currently in the process of adjusting my meds yet again and hoping that this makes a difference for me Luckily my psych doc is really receptive to working with me on being on as little meds as possible because that s important to me I love how you said bipolar takes a pound of flesh but we grow back a new skin I m going to remember that I feel like I m in that stage now I feel like there are things I would like to try and rekindle my passion with but then my mind says why bother so I don t even try I realize I just have to push myself even when I don t feel like it Then hopefully something will come out of it Thanks again for responding to me it s so good to connect with people over this March 13 2015 at 11 29 pm 115728 paige14 Participant Hi sweethomechic ago There s an old time saying I like Drag the body and the mind will follow With physical illness like the flu we re supposed to stay in bed and rest But with mental illness one of the worst things we can do is stay in bed and rest because it just plain does not work If anything sitting around doing nothing and god forbid if we get in bed our mental illness will get worse I m speaking from first hand experience The Bed became an addiction I was in there for three months I love what you said about needing to push yourself even when you don t feel like it You have this concept spot on Before I ring off though it needs to be said that sometimes we have a physical illness in addition to our mental illness In that case things would obviously be different I m not experienced in this area but I wanted to put it in this post just in case someone reading has both Blessings and Peace Paige March 15 2015 at 11 05 am 115751 birch2 Participant Hi Sweethomechicago All good advice from Paige and Polarmouse as always I also certainly understand your feelings and what you are going through In my case I have had both the manias and the depression actually a cycle of both for several years before I was diagnosed Once diagnosed I eventually became more stable but in the process I walked away from a creative and successful life in upper management It has been devastating at times to look back and see who I once was and the capacity of success to the somewhat diminished state of balance It took me a couple of years but as has been suggested already one often has to learn and try new activities or take advantage of different opportunities In my case I realized I needed to do a total reinvent of what my life was going to be like I needed to stay balanced have less responsibility but also be in positions where I could still make a difference I have found such by drawling upon my past career and turning it into training programs and consultation opportunities So far I have found more success than I expected and I still have highs and lows but I once again feel value in my life Best Doug March 17 2015 at 10 16 am 115809 sweethomechicago Participant Hi Doug and Paige Thank you both for your help It has been so good to have people here to connect with Since being diagnosed I have lost basically all of my friends except my husband Not to mention I moved away from the place I grew up in and just haven t been able to make any new friends let
