  • How to Control episodes & make the best decision in situations - A Discussion About Bipolar | bpHope - bp Magazine Community
me or others Bullies unfair situations those who force their will on others make people feel bad for fun My outbursts usually end up with me yelling or breaking things I have gotten more control over the years But i still have them from time to time How do i stop or control them Because they happen in lots of situations The crazy part is 9 10 times I end up Being right its just the way to exhausting some people shy away Thats not my goal February 10 2016 at 8 22 pm 147751 polarmouse Participant Hi loyal2afault I have dealt with what you are years ago I couldn t control my anger usually over similar situations I ended up going to an anger management class found through my counselor It helped tremendously and gave me a lot of coping techniques Some were things like removing yourself from the situation when you first see things developing taking a deep breath before speaking and at one point I had a rubber band that I would wear around my wrist that I could pull if I felt the anger building This is also something you can work on in regular therapy through whats called cognitive therapy Best regards PM February 10 2016 at 9 28 pm 147763 faithful Participant Hello loyal2afault One of my friend has Anger issue and PTSD He is getting a counseling combined with EMDR EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing It new and non traditional psychotherapy It doesn t require any thing but a therapist asking question while you follow his finger going back and forth Here is the information Effective Anger Management Therapy With EMDR we can help you not only identify triggers and understand the source of your anger but also shift how you respond to provoking situations The triggers that release the anger are often not about what is happening in the present but instead they are activating old memories ones that we re not necessarily fully aware of In a flash we are not responding to the current situation but instead we are reacting as if we are emotionally unsafe physically threatened or wherever it is our memories have taken us With EMDR we ll find and target the events in which the emotionally volatile memories and negative beliefs about yourself were first laid down We ll then use EMDR processing to desensitize them so they don t keep getting triggered and we ll shift them to positive beliefs I never heard of it until recently but It seems to be helping my friend I strongly recommend a good psychotherapist who is familiar with DBT so you can use better thought process skills Peace Faithful February 11 2016 at 11 02 pm 147922 paige14 Participant People who have bipolar manage lives filled with intense moods anger would be one of the big problems Do we push it all inside risking depression Do we let it out causing bad consequences like loosing

  • Prolonged stress = prolonged episode? - A Discussion About Bipolar | bpHope - bp Magazine Community
can also cause a prolonged episode Prolonged stress will prolong the episode as PM said Each of of is different and therefore what affects one person may not affect another I know BP s who thrive at school and cannot function outside of it What I know is that we cannot stay in prolonged stress that destroys us July 19 2015 at 1 08 am 121736 kimijayne Participant Being in a stressful atmosphere or situation for any length of time is going to have ramifications But life is full of stress Short of wrapping ourselves up in bubble wrap and becoming hermits stress can not be avoided That is why we have therapists medication support groups etc If going to a crowded store is most definitely going to set off an episode then plan on going when it is not going to be busy If school is stressful take fewer classes or see if there is an online option For every action there is a reaction For every problem there is a solution I was diagnosed over 20 years ago and it hasn t been easy But I have learned over time that I can manage things with structure consistency organization and self awareness If something is stressful ask yourself how important it is at this point in time Try to avoid the inevitable episode if at all possible The more you get to know yourself and your handicap the easier it will be to deal with situations Don t be afraid to ask for help July 21 2015 at 9 43 am 122006 paige14 Participant Yes I believe living in prolonged stress or being subjected to a sudden event like 9 11 as an extreme example can bring on a longer and more intense mood disturbance This happened to me so I m speaking from experience Using the word mood to describe what we re up against helps to define the illness in a way that narrows the field as opposed to other forms of mental illness not to say we re free of other mental illnesses because many of us have pilot fish I have several making life interesting in a melancholy way Getting out of the circumstances that are prolonged keeping you trapped oftentimes is very difficult to accomplish The known and the unknown The Fear Factor oftentimes comes into play whenever we enter the unknown February 11 2016 at 8 13 am 147799 cyrus Participant Prolonged stress can take many forms in my case it has been a series of incredibly stressful financial and personal triggers These each on there own were enough to cause a depression Unfortunately with a string of them I have been experiencing one of the longest depressions I have experienced to date Only after a couple of years are the triggers beginning to dissipate and a long road to recovery beginning Unkindly fate has found yet another major personal setback trigger to pile on but hopefully I have learned enough to
