  • SMX Advanced 2007 - Impressive! (And thanks to all who've welcomed a first timer!) - Scott Clark - SEO, SEM, ORM and Content Marketing
distinctly less clear Thus far my favorite single presentation has been Gord Hotchkiss take on changes in SEO in the age of personalized search Barry liveblogged the whole thing but what I got from this was that we ll be optimizing around buckets of behaviors and themes Buzz sites launched by SEMs and run by Buzz services will provide methods for rapidly inserting yourself into the web history of large numbers of people thus influencing the Personalized search results for the future It s still a massively evolving space I think it will change everything and much of what we re worrying about now will be irrelevant I originally knew about Gord because he refers a fair amount to one of my interests eye tracking studies which have been popularlized for web design and marketing uses Graywolf makes the point it s not clear enough that one is using personalized search cite heat maps and that it dumbs down the searchers putting more control over what is shown in Google s hands which may not be such a healthy long term thing It was refreshing to hear Google chime in at the Paid Search Tricky Issues session when I asked about how they could help trademark owners issue larger scale authorizations for localized search In my case the issue was franchises but it applies to resellers and company owned branches as well Apparantly they are working on something that will make this easier than the constant trademark complaint form modifications it currently takes one must add approved trademarks to the form manually for each location wanting to advertise on say Google maps Barry s got some great coverage and Carolyn Cshel has posted lots of good photos search Flickr for cshel smx until she posts a link on her site

  • Why SMX is so important to me - Scott Clark - SEO, SEM, ORM and Content Marketing
the woodwork I ll bet I ll met some neat folks I don t get to hang much with other top talent in this space I need to know others ideas and thoughts more often but in my part of the country people are still selling meta tag stuffing Spending time around smart people leads me to make positive change in my business The last time I spent a couple of days around truly smart business associates away from my office I came back and fired three clients that were dragging my firm down It was a very very good move Lexington nice as it is is taking the enthusiasm out of my game I need to get out and mix it up with folks more often I ve had a very hard time fitting in and finding folks who don t immediately ask me to do something for their business At SMX nobody at all will need my skills LOL I have lots of new opportunities but all require some advanced SEM New equity based arrangements have emerged Each of these will require olympic level SEM skills I have done well so far but I feel that there will be things to learn at SMX This has become the first web work that I truly love and I want to nurture it I have been very successful at many parts of web business development and I know they ll always be a part of my job but SEM analytics and the financial analysis part of website profitability is the wind on which I sail these days Hopefully without sounding whiny NOBODY knows me personally I have done a poor job of getting myself noticed in the SEM community at large It s totally my fault I ve not attended SES conferences b c it s always just been too expensive and perhaps a bit too large I ve earned the cred and delivered the goods professionally but just not done a good job on the personal networking front and that s definitely important Lastly I really want people to know I m not a hillbilly LOL No nobody s accused me of this But when mainstream media treats Kentuckians so badly it s worth saying it 4k 5k from my location All of this is in addition to the great content I m sure will be available in the discussions and roundtables So my remaining seminar meeting wish list is A Seth Godin Whiteboard Seminar An Elite Retreat So long see you at SMX Events smx 2 comments on Why SMX is so important to me Jason Michael Brown says July 3 2007 at 11 31 am Cool post I wish I would have know someone local was going we could have drove together as I am in Louisville Maybe next time Scott Clark says July 3 2007 at 11 43 am I m making plans on Denver Local and Mobile SMX About BuzzMaven Labs BuzzMaven Labs is the
