    to discuss his work with the public This will be a unique opportunity to learn more about his life his culture inspirations creative process and to further your knowledge of Inuit sculpture JACO ISHULUTAQ Jaco Ishulutaq is a master carver from Pangnirtung whose creations depict real locations and events related to the community s history and his personal life At the early age of sixteen he began carving supported by his mother Elisapee Ishulutaq a renowned Inuit artist and a member of the Order of Canada He has learned most of his techniques while watching his grandfather carve The artist is also known for creating graphic works for the archives at the Uqqurmuit Centre based on his grandfather s stories When it comes to carving his skills and talent have made him equally comfortable working with many different materials such as deer antlers ivory whale bones and steatite Today Jaco Ishulutaq is one of the most prolific artists in Pangnirtung and has been able to make a living from his art His artworks are highly sought after and are exhibited in major international art galleries SPECIAL ACTIVITY Come and meet with Jaco Ishulutaq Saturday November 21 from 2 to 4

    how and innovation in traditional arts and crafts practices NEON MATERIALS HIGHLIGHTED is intended as a celebration of creation through an urban and contemporary thematic Each creation whether belonging to the family of ceramics glass textiles metals or woods queries the notions of time and light from its respective materials and its intrinsic qualities The exhibition highlights the important role played by the Canadian Guild of Crafts not only in the preservation and promotion of Arts and Crafts but also and especially in the renewal of these disciplines while paying tribute to these artistic practices as art forms in their own right The exhibition opening will be held Thursday November 5 2015 from 5 PM to 7 PM The artists will be present to meet and greet the public and the media SPECIAL EVENT MEETING WITH 2 EXHIBITORS The Guild invites you a conference artist talk with the glass artist Jean Simon Trottier on Friday November 6 from 5 to 7 PM Also a family workshop will be held on Saturday November 28 2015 from 2 to 3 30 PM NEON MATERIALS HIGHLIGHTED Neon has forced the night to kneel just as artists have bent materials to draw the exact forms that they desire Fundamentally urban neon refers to nightlife to the reclaiming of the night by cities There is undoubtedly a parallel between the transformation of a natural phenomenon the night and the transformation of matter by the artists artisans participating in this exhibition Neon therefore refers to nocturnal life but also to restaurant lighting illuminated canopies of concert halls nightclubs outdoor festivals decorated with lights at night In short to pop culture that is strongly linked to mass production which is rooted in consumerist society As rampart against this overproduction the works in the NEON exhibition suggest the
