music from the warm up status that it often endures in traditional piano circles Quite simply she restores its colour expressiveness and grandeur This is fortepiano playing of true distinction Gramophone Cerasi s reading of the F minor variations is especially powerful sombre and restrained until the coda she makes Haydn s climatic outpouring of grief feel truly cathartic It is a moving conclusion to a disc on which Cerasi s acute insights prove as telling as her brilliant technique International Piano Editor s Choice Cerasi s most remarkable playing comes in the Andante con variazione played with great dignity at its beginning This is entirely without pomposity or inflation but with powerful expressiveness and where needed with a precise fierceness before closing on a final chord of bitter sweet beauty The combination of particular instrument and particular performer has here resulted in as fine and memorable a performance of this significant work of Haydn s as I can remember hearing The copy of Hubert s clavichord is used in the far earlier Sonata in D major The firm delicacy of the instrument and of Cerasi s touch captures to perfection the sense of contained power in this music International Music Web Johann Sebastian Bach English Suites BWV806 811 Metronome MetCD 1078 released 2007 Carole Cerasi harpsichord Blanchet Taskin 1757 collection Kenneth Gilbert Cerasi s playing exhibits a flawless technique and where tempos and ornaments are concerned exemplary good taste International Record Review Carole Cerasi has always seemed to me to be one of the finest harpsichordists alive today and this recital fully confirms my earlier impression This will certainly remain for me a reading to treasure Early Music Review Manuel Blasco de Nebra Sonatas Pastorelas Metronome MetCD 1064 released 2003 Carole Cerasi harpsichord Joachim Jozé Antunes Lisbon 1785 Finchcocks fortepiano Sebastian Lengerer Kufstien 1793 Finchcocks Putting aside the fluidity of Cerasi s fast tempo fingerwork what stands out in her recordings is her sense of calm fascinating idiosyncratic playing repertoire played with supreme lightness Independant on Sunday Carole Cerasi plays these charming works with obvious affection and understanding triumphantly justifying their revival Both instruments used have real presence and character as does Cerasi s playing which is as crisp and well thought out as ever and dashingly virtuosic New recordings from this musician are always worth waiting for Gramophone Gramophone Awards 2003 Runner up Diapason d Or de l Année 2003 J S Bach the Möller Manuscript Metronome MetCD 1055 released 2002 Carole Cerasi harpsichords Bruce Kennedy 1998 after Christian Zell 1728 Robert Goble Son 1990 after Carl Conrad Fleischer 1720 Carole Cerasi whose delicacy of touch and impeccable style is matched by an unparalleled confidence of attack maps each piece with due verve attention and imagination Sheer delight Independent on Sunday Continuing an award winning trail of engaging recorded recitals Cerasi gives a thoroughly engrossing account of these masters This is another compelling recital by Cerasi dispatched with flair and acute sensibility Gramophone Diapason d Or de l

these relatively little known sonatas Cerasi executes the flamboyant concerto figuration with nonchalant facility She brings a colourful theatricality and a genuine alertness to the outlandish excursions of the C major Sonata conveyed with considerable intensity by the fortepiano More admirable still is the fluid unalloyed lyricism of the slower movements a highly enjoyable recital from this exciting young keyboardist Gramophone Cerasi is a young keyboard player of great flair and musical imagination Cerasi s stylishness her rhythmic imagination and her crisp articulation make it very winning and her intelligent programme neatly charts the way in which CPE Bach gradually extended the boundaries of keyboard form The Guardian Equally assured on both the fortepiano and the harpsichord Cerasi makes lyrical sense of CPE Bach s peculiar music This disc is purely pleasurable the clarity of the performance matched by an admirably lucid sound quality The Independent on Sunday It is a tribute to Cerasi s artistry and understanding of C P E Bach s idiosyncratic idiom that the recital grips the listeners attention from the very first note and refuses to let go Whatever the piece and chosen mode of communication Cerasi shows herself an interpreter of remarkable insight the music of C P E Bach makes for compulsive listening and nowhere more so than in Cerasi s fine accounts This is a stunning disc I urge anyone even remotely intrigued to try it www LudwigVanWeb com An eloquent tribute to the last of the English virginalists with Cerasi on sparkling form her selection of about a third of Tomkins s extant keyboard pieces effectively showcases all of the genres in which he composed as well as demonstrating the excellence and range of her own technique Few listeners will fail to be impressed by the fearless accuracy and panache with
