    on Welfare Join our Team Contact Contact Media Feedback Online Complaint Form Join our Team Get Involved DONATE ADOPT CALL ANIMAL SHELTER CALL ANIMAL CONTROL March is Foster Parent Appreciation Month Posted on March 15 2016 by CCSPCA Posted in Blog SPCA Foster Feature Our foster parents are the backbone to our adoption center Many of the animals that cross our doors are not fit to be adopted immediately either due to age illness social behavior or injury Our foster parents step up to the plate and bring these helpless animals into their homes give them the time attention and love they need The ugly truth is without our dedicated and loyal foster parents many animals especially the young and not self sufficient are the first to be considered for euthanasia By providing a home for them to grow up in they have a better chance of survival and finding their forever home For this reason we are extremely appreciative and grateful of their service and have designated March as our Foster Parent Appreciation Month We currently have 44 active and recurring foster parents This past fiscal year we placed nearly 1 000 dogs and cats in foster care As a token of our appreciation we have reached out to our active and regular foster parents to thank them and ask them a few questions about their lives and foster experiences We will be featuring those stories and pictures on our Facebook page throughout March Like us on Facebook Central California SPCA to stay up to date with these incredible people Being a foster parent is not for the faint of heart Our foster parents deal with extremely sick animals that sometimes don t make it They grieve for that loss Our foster parents are unselfish and often give their

    March 15 2016 March 15 2016 by CCSPCA Posted in Blog SPCA Education Oh no Your pet has eaten something that could be poisonous what do you do now Have you ever been in this situation It can be very stressful and downright scary To raise awareness about Animal Poison Prevention week March 20 thru 26 2016 here are some simple steps to remember in a poison ingestion emergency 1 Evaluate Check out your pet Is he she acting differently lethargic short of breath vomiting etc If you didn t see them ingest it when do you think they could have gotten into the poison Search the room in which they found the toxin for broken wrappers open containers or something mussed If you can remove all toxins from that area All of these clues will help you figure out what your pet may have ingested 2 Call your veterinarian Your veterinarian will advise you on the best way to help your pet recover from the toxin Make sure you give them as much information as you can about the incident 3 DO NOT SELF MEDICATE Many people think that they are helping their pet by giving them human medications to relieve the toxin However in many cases this makes things worse Also do not encourage your pet to vomit This may worsen the side effects 4 Get Help If your veterinarian deems that further treatment is required transport your animal to your veterinary clinic If your vet is not available call an emergency veterinarian clinic On your way to the vet office monitor your pet to ensure they aren t getting stressed and their symptoms are staying consistent The following products are toxic to pets this is not a comprehensive list For a detailed list please visit ASPCA Animal
