it just opened last night If you happen to live down this way definitely check it out I did not look closely at the check to see if they had taken 10 off This entry was posted in dining fulton new on July 14 2010 by lesterhead The Quest for the Best Chocolate Croissants 9 Replies The chocolate croissant my most favorite breakfast pastry And these days readily available in the neighborhood and nearby Fort Greene Lately I ve been on a bit of a choc croissant bender and so I decided to compare the local offerings to see which establishment offers the best one Under consideration price fluffiness appearance the grease factor quantity of chocolate Over the next few days I ll share my findings I ll be highlighting five offerings I probably won t be able to try them all but feel free to share your favorites in the comments This entry was posted in dining review on July 6 2010 by lesterhead CHB Visits Black Swan 5 Replies I m not going to label this a review since I went to dinner to catch up with friends and wasn t there in the mindset to be thinking critically about it But it was tasty so I thought it deserved a post A few weeks ago Mr Lesterhead and I met up with friends who live just across the CH BS border They had been raving about Black Swan on Bedford Ave saying they d been there almost every night since it opened It s just over the neighborhood border and the photos we ve seen have look great so we decided we d check it out The place is gorgeous Great inside decor a nice outdoor seating area a great selection of beers on tap milk stout which someone recommended in an earlier post is indeed delicious On the night we dined I tried the evening s special which was fish and chips I love the standard F C fare but this was a special interpretation The fish was fried in what almost seemed like a light tempura and was wonderfully seasoned We split the coconut flan and the apple tart for dessert This is the latter delicious Mr L s only critique was the booth s wood benches which were just a little too shallow to sit totally comfortably and I wouldn t have noticed on my own Overall a great new addition to the neighborhood Black Swan 1048 Bedford Ave Lafayette This entry was posted in bed stuy dining on July 1 2010 by lesterhead A Bistro YUM 5 Replies Abistro on Carlton in Fort Greene is one of the tastiest restaurants in the area Hidden behind a simple white gate you might have just passed by without noticing Don t let the exterior fool you This tiny cozy space offers some of the most interesting food around not to mention some of the friendliest service It s a family affair chef and co owner

stop locale for cool crafty stuff and vingate goodies Among the participants will be local photographer Geralyn Shukwit one of my favorites This entry was posted in arts events flea holiday shopping on December 4 2008 by lesterhead Fort Greene PUPS Calendars on Sale Leave a reply The 2009 Fort Greene PUPS calendar debuted at the Great PUPkin and was a huge success I ll say it s one of the best the organization has done both because I worked on it and because we accepted user submissions and collected a lot of amazing photos of local dogs As always the calendars will be available locally and will also be sold at the Brooklyn Flea this Sunday We re excited to announce that the 2009 PUPS calendar will be on sale at the Flea this Sunday November 9 Come and get yours at the PUPS table that will be set up outside the Flea s main entrance beginning at 10 AM The calendar is also available at Who s Your Doggy on Willoughby and Adelphi and at Gnarly Vines on Myrtle Avenue This year s calendar is filled with more photos of our community canines then ever and makes a great holiday gift Plus the money raised through calendar sales helps support our activities which include donations to area shelters and to individuals who have rescued dogs in our neighborhood See you in the park and hopefully at the Flea Nancy Peterson President PUPS The calendar can also be purchased online here This entry was posted in flea fort greene pets on November 7 2008 by lesterhead Flea Stuff 50 Replies A commenter recently asked me why I haven t given any coverage to the flea controversies Really it s just because everyone else in NYC has already written about it I m not really interested in repeating stuff that s been posted in a zillion other places I d rather observe quirky stuff and solve neighborhood mysteries but here is a link from the NY Times When I first heard there would be a meeting to protest the flea I assumed it would be an old timer new timer thing However it sounds like the meeting was driven by the members of the church across the street Some of their gripes sound legit having flea visitors use their restroom facilities and having parking taken up Surely there could be a resolution there resident only parking stickers or not do the parishioners have the right to park over flea shoppers or welcome flea visitors into the church s facilities for a donation hey you have to pay in Coney Island to use most bathrooms Why not raise some cash for the church One complaint is that church attendance has dropped since the flea began Has the church polled it s non attending members to see if this is the case Perhaps it s due to the fact that people are out of town during the summer I wasn t at
