them Get in however you can Make a pre list if you can of the people attending the event to whom you want to connect Sometimes you can casually ask the host Is Sandi attending and since these are people you know well they usually respond Arrive early when you are the first person to arrive at the party it gives you a chance to connect with the host by helping them get any last minute things in place They are usually appreciative Then you are in a position to see the latecomers when they arrive and become a greeter to make a connection Have a strategy If you have a list of people you can target to connect with that person at the beginning and end of the party At the beginning when they arrive just say hello and greet them Do not ask anything right away since you are reconnecting During the party or right before they leave reconnect and let them know how you are available for work Or if you would like them to connect you to someone in their network that is the time to ask Do not overindulge in alcohol You do not want everyone remembering you as the person who was slurring your words or speaking too loudly This will erase all your good work and efforts that you have put into preparing for these events and will eventually damage your reputation Follow up make sure you complete the circle by following up after the holidays Invite people for coffee or just for a five minute chat Keep the party going One last tip These holiday party tips are really regular networking tips in disguise they work throughout the year at regular networking events You are just being more prepared Follow Up Friends

  • The Aging Generation’s Impact on “Sandwich” Business Owners - Consultants 2 Go
Falls are the leading cause of injury related death in that age group And more than 2 4 million people over 65 were treated in emergency departments for injuries from falls in 2012 alone an increase of 50 percent over a decade As I read the above statistics I recognized that I as well as other business owners whom I know have been impacted in more than one category when we had to take care of or memorialize a parent or older sibling It is particularly stressful when a parent or child is in another state You too have been impacted if you answer yes to any of the following Have you taken a trip to take care of a parent or child in another state multiply the impact by the number of trips you have taken Have you been to the emergency room at least once during business hours in the last year Have you had to work from home or leave work early because of an illness Do you have children under the age of 18 I have not taken the time to count up the numbers of hours lost to the business when I had to take care of parental issues Thankfully I have a business partner and a key management team member designated to step in during times of unexpected events If you are a solo entrepreneur your action item is to look at the people around you and decide who would manager your business in unexpected moments Then tell that person and give them the information that they need in case of emergencies Don t wait until the emergency actually happens because it will be too late in the process to update them and will create unneeded chaos Additionally if you cannot think of someone

  • Dr. Brene Brown’s Daring Greatly - Consultants 2 Go
being a leader You should be in the arena getting your ass kicked quoted Dr Brown Leaders who are extremely comfortable are not really great leaders as they are not reaching their full potential We must stretch outside our comfort zones in order to create new products and services If we continue to do the same old thing and sell the same old services we will remain stagnant and stuck Only through true innovation and stretching our dreams taking risks will our businesses soar and we truly lead A few quotes from Dr Brown were vital to changing my point of view Hopefully these quotes will lead to a topic of discussion even if you disagree When you don t care what people think you lose the ability to be vulnerable This is particularly true with business owners We must take pride in our work our products and what we deliver to our customers In order to do so we must care whether or not the customer will like what we give them and will be happy with our output When people share when they are vulnerable don t use it against them The ultimate betrayal is when someone opens up to us and give us a piece of information that they normally would not give But in a moment of feeling that we care and their being vulnerable they will share with the hope that we can be trusted with that information Using it against them betrays their trust We tend to see vulnerability and trust as stupidity For example we ask ourselves why would I hire that person after they shared that info with me We make up stories about people and situations using limited data points When we don t get the full story from our clients customers family or friends we create what if scenarios and start to guess and impose our own thoughts about situations When someone doesn t return our call we make up all kinds of reasons as to why Joy is the hardest emotion to feel because we wait for the other shoe to drop So we don t celebrate the little or big moments because we continue to see doom around the corner I am particular familiar with this emotion Recently we cautiously celebrated having a great year and surpassing our 2014 goals by September My business partner and I discussed whether or not we should celebrate because the year isn t over yet and we might have a downturn in Q4 to regret the celebration I finally embraced being thankful for having a fantastic year as that will not change thru year end We should have an attitude of gratitude to feel true joy When we surrender ourselves to saying thanks we can be happy with our accomplishments Be thankful for what we feel are setbacks layoffs mean we get a chance to dare greatly and do the things that we would never have an opportunity to do go back

  • Ease Pre-Presentation Anxiousness - Consultants 2 Go
to familiarize yourself with the topic s you will be discussing The more knowledgeable you are about your presentation the less nervous you will feel A lot of the nervousness when speaking in public stems from our belief that we don t know enough about a topic to adequately speak about it As cliché as it may sound practice actually does make perfect Although aiming for perfection is not the best approach make the effort to practice your speech in front of others even strangers Take note of their feedback and work to improve Do whatever you can to make your presentation as comfortable for you and effective for your audience as possible This may mean finding pictures or presentation aids maybe writing parts of your speech out on paper beforehand whatever you feel will help you get the message across Finally mind control This suggestion may seem a bit odd but all too often we let our minds focus on all the negative possibilities that could take place during the presentation or speech rather the positive So think positive Become the role of a great speaker as opposed to approaching the presentation as a task that you just have to get out of the way Tell yourself you are confident even if you are not Also there are a plethora videos on popular sites such as YouTube about presenting techniques and how people just like us got over their fear and anxiety Breezing through your next presentation requires preparation practice and having the right mindset Rather than aiming for perfection approach every presentation or speech as another learning experience to make the next one better A speaker should approach his preparation not by what he wants to say but by what he wants to learn Todd Stocker Jennie Moussa

  • Exit Strategy Advice from Marcus Lemonis - Consultants 2 Go
and attorney involved now so that your books are in shape Make sure your agreements are transferable People is everything If you want to grow your business or sell it people matter the most Most companies make a purchase based on the people they want to keep in the company and not so much because of the product Mandate paid volunteerism at least 32 hours per year Give people a paid sabbatical If you see someone was a rock star and is going thru a rough time that person can be rehabilitated by showing you have faith in them instead of firing them Because our personal lives reflect on our professional ones ups and downs show in both places Pay them to take some time off to recover it is less costly than a new hire Give equity to employees We are on the same elevator whether it goes up or down How much are we willing to give up to show the value of our people Exit strategy should be clear to all employees Everyone should be moving in the same direction to accomplish the goal Most owners like to deal from a need to know basis and it doesn t get everyone on board Only 50 of the people who sell their businesses are happy with the exit Happy people all had excellent exit strategies and have moved on to something else even after a short stint with the company after it was sold The other 50 are lost miserable and regretful that they sold it because they enjoyed the job they had We must plan to be happy with our businesses Get to know your SWOT Be able to capitalize on our strengths improve on our weaknesses take advantage of opportunities and know what threatens our business
