  • Oprah’s Live The Life You Want Tour - Consultants 2 Go
happen anywhere When difficult decisions need to happen I can take a few minutes by myself to simply think thru my options write them down and just have a few minutes of alone time to weigh my options Speaker Elizabeth Gilbert spoke on The Quest Ms Gilbert discussed how she took time out of her life to pursue her true calling She got a divorce took a trip around the world and found herself Then she wrote a book about it and 3 years later a movie was done about her journey We cannot all take a year out of our lives but the concept of stepping back to look at the bigger picture is understandable Each year we at C2G take a minute to review the year in order to strategize for next year There are other areas where our lives get temporarily disrupted like sickness and that forces us to stop and take time out when we thought we could not Speaker Rob Bell s topic of Everything is Spiritual summarized how everyone has a spiritual core even if they are not religious meaning identifying with a particular religion It is that spiritual core in us that makes us do good things and want to maintain a connection with others We connect through networking organizations where we find like business owners who are going thru the same things that you are and can understand being an entrepreneur We should feel free to connect with experts who can advise us on steps we should take thru our businesses via mentoring we should have a mentor as well as mentees so that we receive on one end and turn around and share what we learn with others who need it Speaker Iyanla Vanzant of the award winning OWN series Iyanla Fix My Life toasted us with the topic of Here s to Life some quotes that I love and will use Life really is on your side Life doesn t play tricks on you your mind does Life talks you must learn to listen Life always tells you the truth your job is to recognize and accept it Speaker Oprah Winfrey in Create a New Vision One of the quotes that Oprah gave was I want us all to fulfill our greatest potential To find our calling and summon the courage to live it That quote resonated with me as that is exactly what I want to do at this point in life as well as in my business We are in a growth phase and I want to give it everything that I have to ensure it s a success The second part of the quote to live it is more difficult to action There are things we all want to do in our businesses but we have a lot of dependencies depends on payroll this week depends if the client pays us on time depends if we have the right team We must find the strength to push

  • Holiday Sensitivities - Consultants 2 Go
have as many questions as you do An example is Christmas Hanukkah Ramadan or Bodhi Day there are cultural differences therefore it is always good to send out information regarding that holiday Simple online articles Wikipedia or even LinkedIn are excellent sources for a quick background on Holidays and how they can be celebrated in the work place Include Everyone You never know how someone will respond to a Holiday celebration at an office The best practice is to ask everyone and give them the option to say no some employees feel they must say yes simply because they are asked There can also be a religious conflicts for some co workers whose religious practices do not allow celebration of other religions Regardless do not leave anyone out and ask everyone if they want to participate You don t want anyone feeling left out Celebrate All Holidays Speak to your HR person to guide you If your company is going to publically celebrate one holiday you should celebrate them all This is not only for an in office party but for promotional materials as well Sending out emails to clients that note a celebration should also have a degree of consistency Working for a small or large business you do not want to alienate people on a personal or professional level When catastrophic events happen close to a holiday we recognize them by donating to a charity This way we acknowledge both the holiday but also the need to be sensitive to others who might not be able to celebrate You might find other ways of acknowledging those two polarizing occasions but still recognize the holiday Patrick Coughlin is a Marketing Analyst at Consultants 2 Go Articles celebrate fair holidays Memos Sensitivity Share this Story Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Reddit Digg

  • Food and the Small Business Owner - Consultants 2 Go
quick to eat tastes good and frankly are not easily perishable so that we have to run out to buy them every week Items such as granola bars pretzel sticks and popcorn has a longer shelf life When I am maniacally focused on getting out a proposal I tend to skip lunch and grab a granola bar instead We do keep lots of water Skipping meals is the norm for a small business owner That also negatively contributes to our obesity rate I start my day early particularly when I work from home and once I start checking emails and getting on conference calls I look up and it s already 1pm I ve skipped breakfast and lunch This is not uncommon among my peers After gaining weight my doctor told me that my body was holding on to fat because it goes into starvation mode when I skip a meal I was contributing to my obesity rate by not taking the time to eat Now I set an alarm as a reminder Healthy restaurant options are not rampant around small business offices Within a 5 block radius of my office there are about six fast food restaurants and only recently one sit down restaurant that has healthy and vegetarian options The best option of course is to bring lunch but we don t always have or take time to prepare it I would love to see more restaurants that are calorie conscious geared towards the small business owner perhaps offering delivery of special meals Even if we have fast food restaurants that display calories we still don t have much of a choice but to still make the purchase when we are hungry Breakfast Dinner Fast Food Lunch obesity office environment skipping meals snacks starvation mode statistics Share this
