  • Danny Brown on Integrity | DR1665
moot compared to the bleating of the uninformed and or careless sheep Which only goes to show In the end klout finally took a step in the right direction allowing anyone to opt out Danny s a good guy He treats people with respect and dignity and he s not afraid to tell it like it is which means using swear words from time to time If you could distill everything you ve learned so far into a single word of advice to yourself what would that one word be Integrity Why does this one word mean so much to you Because at the end of the day it s the only thing that truly separates us from those we don t wish to be like It s the one word that defines you as a person and how you ll be remembered as a person How does this one word impact what you do or want to do with your life It makes me think about every single thing I do and whether it would hurt the ones I love While I respect the opinions of others it s only the opinions of those I love and those that love me that truly matter If I can look my wife and son in the eye and know that I ve done everything right that s worth more than all the money you could throw my way What has this word done for you so far Made me the person I want to be and be the person my family needs me to be I ve dropped negative influences from my life ended friendships because their integrity has lacked never backed away from an argument if I felt the opponent was clearly wrong and pushing an agenda and realized that

  • Chris Barba on Perspective
become unhinged as we discover new potentials How does this one word impact what you do or want to do with your life Perspective has had a profound impact on my life It has aided in the transformation of a naive outlook on the world to one of accountability I mean this in a couple of ways One is that the world we see and know is not the only world that exists This may seem rudimentary but at least for myself whenever I get caught up in my current reality I begin to lose sight of the fact that other ones exist We are the ones who can choose complacency or action We can transform our current realities inspire action in other peoples realities and take forward steps to creating a world full of growth and positive potential These may seem like grand steps but that s just one perspective catch my drift The biggest impact this word has had on me was to let go and think outside all my predisposing biases and ideas I have already constructed and have a visceral look at the world Like a child seeing everything for the first time everything is fun intriguing and serves a purpose What has this word done for you so far The idea of perspective has done multiple things on multiple levels of my life When rough times begin to pile up I take a step back and look at these issues in the context of the larger scale of my life Like a helicopter propelling up off the ground once you get high enough those tiny problems begin to just fade away into the big picture Perspective Whenever I am having a conversation with another person I attempt to suspend my prejudices and truly see the

  • Distillery: Ryan Scott on Fear
greater good of course Ryan is one of those people we ll be keeping in touch with long term over on Gearbox Magazine If you could distill everything you ve learned so far into a single word of advice to yourself what would that one word be Fear Why does this one word mean so much to you I ve realized that the only thing that limits me is fear How does this one word impact what you do or want to do with your life I find that fear can be motivating but more often it s limiting and I believe it s crucial to recognize when a fear is irrational unimportant and prevents action On one hand I have a nagging fear of becoming an old man who looks back on his life filled with regret of a life not lived to its fullest potential I embrace this fear because it constantly motivates me to be an active participant in life and to live on purpose rather than merely existing On the other hand fear can paralyze me preventing me from pursuing that which I really want out of life If I stop for a moment of introspection during times that I find myself I dragging my feet I usually realize that there is an underlying fear s sapping my motivation There are a host of fears that may pop up subconsciously whether it s a fear of inadequacy rejection failure or of what someone might say think but regardless of the actual fear tragically it is usually unimportant and either self imposed or a perceived societal pressure to conform Obviously a sense of fear can be crucial to survival and save my hide by preventing me from pulling silly stunts like sledding off the barn roof in

other side In fact I d even put money on his agreeing that as much as said past unpleasantries sucked for everyone involved we wouldn t have it any other way The sweetness that is today would neither be possible nor recognized were it not for the bitterness of yesterday If you could distill everything you ve learned so far into a single word of advice to yourself what would that one word be Calm Why does this one word mean so much to you I have accomplished a great many things in my life I have blown a lot of opportunities I ve helped a friend in crisis and I ve been the crisis Calm is life s Pause button that differentiates a good outcome from a bad one It s that control that keeps you safe when everything gets blown to hell Lastly it s not something I ve mastered Sure we ve all got some hindsight but the skill in calm is deploying it when it matters and acting when it s prudent so your calm doesn t turn into its nasty twin apathy How does this one word impact what you do or want to do with your life It s what I strive to be I m an emotional bullheaded and spirited person by nature I m not saying those are bad traits but without some type of control all they lead you to is disaster I speak in generalities because my life hasn t stayed put for very long so I m fresh out of real life examples but if I treat my life like a series of moments and screw my head on for a minute I might just make it out OK And you know what That s all I really want

  • Mr. X on Try
civil disobedience these are things we talk about when we re waiting for a race car to show up but that s not to say he s some kind of left wing right wing extremist He s one of the most rational people I know and I appreciate his sharing his thoughts If you could distill everything you ve learned so far into a single word of advice to yourself what would that one word be Try Why does this one word mean so much to you Generally the things I ve been successful at are the ones I ve tried first I tend to suck at things I haven t tried How does this one word impact what you do or want to do with your life I don t seem to do it often enough It s much more comfortable to do than try Things that need doing I already know I can succeed at Completing those to do list items never seems to give much reward The stuff that eludes me is stuff I have to step outside my comfort zone for or worse try harder for because I failed last time A lot of my inspirational figures have quotes about failures I tend to fixate on failures and rarely focus on progress Sometimes just giving up and trying completely unrelated things with no expectations opens doors on an old project or mistake Usually it at least takes my mind off the string of zeros What has this word done for you so far It has surprised me with what I can do It has taught me what I can t do It has pissed me off and it has wasted my time It has been the source of endless frustration and pain But in the end
