  • The Return of Rocinante: Part 4 | DR1665
I made a special trip to Autozone for because I misplaced an entire bag of gaskets in my complete gasket kit from Parts Dinosaur FACEPALM I took a moment to fix a thermo switch It was fixed like this previously but I re did it Next trip to the junkyard I m going to be looking for these things I ve never seen one that wasn t broken though I suspect they work like a sort of check valve vacuum passes through but only within specific temperature ranges Here s a picture of the whole thing ready to go Go where Go here Like this Fortunately there s plenty of foot room in the engine bay It was a bit tricky to get the cam sprocket off It was a bit tricky to get the cam sprocket back on Valve cover water pump AC compressor and alternator installed Then the power steering and belt tensioner got installed And that s where Rocinante stands right now Still a couple hoses to install on the back of the intake manifold and brake booster exhaust manifold belts fan radiator hoses top off fluids and cross the fingers The Return of Rocinante Part 3

yet and the factory service manual doesn t even show how to remove the rotor Here s what I was looking at First you unscrew the cap on the end The FSM says you can should be able to do this by hand but yeah no You probably can t The proposed solution is to put a rag over it and grab it with a set of oil filter pliers Of course I ve never needed oil filter pliers so I had to go buy a set Next you remove the snap ring holding the CV axle in place Fortunately I have snap ring pliers Un fortunately this snap ring does not have the little holes for them Instead it has to angled points which are pretty much impossible to open using the pliers A middle finger to the FSM I used a thin slotted screwdriver You wipe the grease out and discover there are four phillips screws holding the locking ring in place They re a piece of cake to get out but the next bit really had me scratching my head See the indexed key slot in the middle of the picture above That collar is threaded but it won t move Why Because it s the spindle Maybe you knew this but I didn t I m used to removing four bolts hanging the caliper from the coil spring and sliding the rotor right off This is new territory for me Looking back at the picture above with the hub in place the trick is to use a hammer and screwdriver to gently tap and spin the ring around the spindle loose lefty loosie Then the whole shebang comes right off assuming you ve removed the caliper and bracket which should be straight forward And this is
