were deer everywhere The locals call them Creede Gangs so as to better identify with the big city No one here locks their doors The volunteer fire department has the only underground facilities in the country something like six pieces of equipment stored in a man made cave next to the mining museum which was mined into the side of the same mountainside for effect They say There is no night in Creede but before the sky begins to turn colors signaling the end of the day the businesses begin to close for the day leaving only the Tommyknocker bar open it s patio lights and Coors Light neons casting shadows across the tiny creek running through the middle of town en route to the Rio Grande in the valley below Chad a full time Creede resident told us how the local K 12 school probably the largest building in town has maybe 30 students a year grouped maybe 2 3 to a grade They ll combine grades where they can have a couple sports teams and he drives the bus to away games Recently they got a new bus but the old one still had a stickshift and an ashtray He knew everyone and it seemed like everyone knew him Man the stories he told A timeline hanging in the theatre lobby gave a simple history reporting 2005 as the year cell phone service came to town The Old Firehouse hotel restaurant which has incredible food by the way had wi fi as did one or two residential locations I could find but they were all smartly locked down leaving me to the spotty at best 2G connection on my Blackberry Saturday afternoon we took the Juke on a scenic drive around the Bachelor Loop which climbed sharply up and out of the north end of town past the weathered wooden remains of several mining operations long since closed down The narrow dirt track wound through the Rio Grande Forest where evergreen pines mingled with 40 foot Aspens on fire in shades of brilliant yellow Again deer would appear seemingly out of thin air darting across the road ahead of us before pausing to look back and question our taste in vehicles Saturday night found me standing alone on the wooden deck off the back of the house down the road from Bob Ford s grave staring up at the stars more than I ve seen since visiting Switzerland decades ago marveling at how they really do twinkle bracing myself against the breeze in my thin black Mitsubishi hoodie and allowing the sound of the tiny creek racing through the town below to lull me into a sense of wonderment Today I spent upwards of nine hours sitting in a color neutral cubicle staring at a pair of LCD computer monitors occasionally glancing over and beyond to South Mountain out the window from my air conditioned cell on the 7th floor of Corporate America and I wondered why Even

In 09 23 11 It s a sense of exploration Of adventure Of the raw unlimited potential of man and nature united Of the pointless vanity that is sitting in front of a computer nine hours a day between hour long bouts of soul crushing traffic The best ideas indeed come from stepping outside and looking back in I hope I can apply what I ve learned Danny Brown The Most Important Job in the World 09 27 11 I think our perspectives are inherently warped We aspire to better yet we somehow miss the difference between riches and wealth No job is unimportant so long as it makes a positive impact in the life of at least one other person but I think the most important job is our daily efforts at personal improvement continuous learning and sharing what we learn with our neighbors so that we might all advance together Want to see more TWICs posts Thank you to everyone above for inspiring me this week Keep going fast with class pressing on regardless and doing it yourself or doing what you can Outside Looking In Tim Klein on Friendship Posted in collaboration community updates Tagged with collaboration

  • Reflection: Either-Or vs. And Thinking
In this way they re awesome If you re looking to sell something including yourself on a job interview perhaps either answer advances your cause If you re an aspiring journalist you stand to get more of a story even if you might be leading it a bit As Rob White will tell you there is great power in language One negative side effect to this kind of thinking though is our tendency to consider our options as either or propositions The 2 year old Blackberry on my hip still allows me to chat in almost real time with people around the world Drop a man at the North Pole and he can still update Facebook Airlift a woman to the middle of the Sahara desert she can live Tweet the event Why limit ourselves What if I would like a 4 door car that looks like a coupé What if I believe I am both an enthusiast AND a gearhead Why can t I invest more time in Gearbox AND Penmanshift The jury is still out on the 4 door coupé thing but look how such a minor change of words completely alters the thought patterns here Even when either choice presented advances us on our path why limit ourselves to one or the other Couldn t we go further with both This is something I ve been trying to keep in mind lately When I find myself faced with a choice between two or more options I try to remind myself to give at least a moment s thought to could I do both What do you think Can you have your cake and eat it too Eugenio Perea on Do TWICs XIII Posted in brainstorm random work Tagged with brainstorm curiosity impact journalism KM meaning serendipity synthesis http expatlifecoach com John Falchetto Hi Brian I really enjoyed reading your thoughts here I think there are two things here one when we consider options we should have the AND mindset Can I do this AND that The second thing once we take a decision there should be no doubt about which direction we are going No going left AND right up AND down So yes to considering AND and no to keeping AND once we take a path http dr1665 com Brian Driggs Agreed We need to be open to every possibility including ways we might do both A and B but once we make that decision we need to stick to it barring clear evidence to drop it and move on Indecision is the same thing as choosing neither it is doing nothing and we don t learn from inactivity Thanks again for visiting John I appreciate it Pingback Blog Soup 2011 11 09 Online Community Reputation and Great Expectations The unofficial blog of Stan Faryna http twitter com suchimishra Suchitra Mishra Hello Brian The power of words becomes so obvious in Sales conversations Really liked the way you brought this out here Thanks Your post also

11 Content is a generic cop out It is mediocrity wrapped in plain white paper with a well used stamp of conformity across its face It is the pursuit of the lowest common denominator it is discount fare it is the least expensive bag of plain potato chips on the bottom shelf Danny Brown Be Brilliant at the Basics 11 07 11 There are two ways to raise the bar The most common is to keep extending it but the second is to lift the foundation I prefer the latter And lately I ve been giving thought to how I might go about introducing some entry level stories to the mix to be sure GBXM reflects that preference Innovation Leadership Network You Can t Know Everything About Everything 11 09 11 Learning facts vs skills is also interesting in that it seems there is a desire in the business community to focus on results over processes these days It s as if the two don t really match up as well as they should which might explain quite a bit of cognitive dissonance Want to see more TWICs posts Thank you to everyone above for inspiring me this week Keep

  • Motor Mounts & Progress | DR1665
They have a habit of disappearing Fortunately Keith has a slight variation of this problem You see since this car went airborne on the lift he s inherited all the spares from not one but TWO Mitsubishi rally teams We ve filled a small trailer with spare parts at least twice in the last couple years and now there s an entire storage unit full of spares Thing is it s not always easy to find what you need when you need it Keith had the engine hung on the lateral motor mounts but when we went to bolt it in all the way we discovered he might have cleaned up a DSM front motor mount horn instead of a GVR4 piece These two cars might have a lot in common but there are still a number of odd little differences between them Remember the DSM was made exclusively in Normal Illinois while the Galant came from Japan The picture above shows the two mounts side by side Seen side by side again the GVR4 specific piece is stamped 344 The DSM piece is stamped 347 Pay no mind to the piece of slag welded to the back of the 344 bracket above That was likely for a rally specific reinforcement at some point in the past We cut it off before installing it in this street car We also ran into issues when we went to bolt up the AC compressor The GVR4 has a different series of brackets for the AC compressor and belt tensioner Pictured above the DSM unit is on the left and the Galant version is on the right The tensioner bracket mounts to the compressor girdle so if you get these mixed up it happened to me a couple years back actually you re
