  • Community Development: Not-So-Simple Content Strategy
far But Wait There s More Another aspect of our content strategy is to each share the conversation with two others who might be interested in the discussion When I originally applied the ROI calculation to our efforts I hadn t taken this piece of the puzzle into consideration Our threshold of success in the scenario above isn t 16 posts it s 48 If 4 of us share each thread with 2 others that s a total of 12 posts per discussion to meet our threshold More Questions Again for the record none of this is actually ROI but we re using the formula to help us weigh the results of our content strategy relative our efforts This is where I start to have more questions again a good thing Our threshold of success is pretty much break even in terms of ROI If we commit to 24 posts in a month we need to make sure we deliver our 24 posts ROI The return on our investment then should really be activity in addition to our direct efforts There s a good chance we might get to chatting away in our threads and come up with more than the planned upon 24 posts but if all those posts are by us they are not a return as we re not actually growing the community Should we count additional comments by those we hyperlink beyond their first Their first comments would likely reflect respect for us and a desire to help us with our efforts but additional posts might suggest value in the content beyond our request Truly we want to see people outside our team of content strategists and called in favors participate which means third parties joining these conversations or the holy grail starting new conversations on
