when you watch TV Your body actually goes into a semi hypnotic state that is just one step above sleeping The only time your body burns less calories is when you are sleeping Even when you are on the computer you are burning more calories So why would we really want to do that to our children at 6 months Now I admit my kids watch television I just don t want television to be a crutch or babysitter And that s why I like Eebee s Adventures videos like Exploring Real Stuff Because when you do sit and watch you will gain all sorts of fun ideas where you and your child can learn through play imitate what you saw and explore stuff around the house One of my favorite activities they did was have Eebee and kids sit in large containers and fill it with Cheerios The children felt the texture and manipulated it The same with rice Another great example was with a box They had a big box on its side using the opening as a door and there were shapes cut out on it to peek through And the kids just sat and played going in and out of the box Now this is a game we often do in the Mom Buzz house Big boxes are a magnet for them and I try to keep it around for a day to entertain the kids and play with them Paper is another fun idea Tissue paper to tear twist and see the bright colors Definitely a learning opportunity to teach colors too They also had a ball with BALLS All types of balls different sizes and different shapes Rolling them down ramps rolling from one another rolling up ramps and trying to catch them Balls

they act the way they do This DVD differs than the other one I reviewed because Eebee is younger In the DVD he experiences playing with different textures of material aka Laundry He played with different shaped toys putting them in and out of a basket He also learns to anticipate outcomes and take turns Eebee and the woman do a lot of reading It shows how you don t have to read a book straight through but you can help your child discover different things every time it is read I love the book they made which was a book about Eebee and then close ups of his hair eyes nose etc I want to make one with my son And what s cool is that first they explore the body parts but then they elaborate on his crazy hair and then when they read again they find even more things to talk about all with the same book So it makes you think when you read your child s favorite book you don t have to stick to the words on the page Bring out colors numbers feelings and thoughts It s a way cool idea Finally they show how little objects can bring about BIG IDEAS Eebee and the children experimented with different objects to create their own kind of music and rhythms You saw other children jump right in shaking rattles and banging blocks It was a lot of fun Another scene I liked was when they played elevator since I do something similar with my own kids It s also a good exercise You simply lay on your back and lift your child up and down saying cute things like Elevator up and you kiss them when they go back down As usual my kids

watch dvd s that no secret in our house So when I was introduced to eebee I was automatically excited because eebee encourages babies to do and discover Yes I said babies Chandler is 3 1 2 and is definitely not a baby anymore but he is constantly asking to watch Eebee At 15 months Rowan is intruiged with Eebee but that is to be expected right Pros I think a company s goal and philosophy is incredibly important especially to parents As taken from eebee s adventures website here is an exerpt of their philosophy eebee s adventures are designed to engage you and your baby with rich play experiences that provide powerful lessons that memorizing letters numbers colors and shapes simply can and do not I think it s great when babies and toddlers learn ther numbers colors and so on but it doesn t teach important things like cause and effect and problem solving I am so happy to see a product that is based around this very thing We were able to review a 3 dvd set featuring Eebee which included Exploring Real Stuff Figuring Things Out All in a Day s Play Each dvd includes adventures with eebee play by play guides expert commentary on every adventure a developmental perspective a video Q A with academic leaders eebee s beat a mini music movement adventure and song selections They are each 75 minutes which makes them a great value I love that all three of these dvds explore cause and effect Rowan is really into this stage as he often drops his sippy cup from his high chair simply to see what it will do when it falls There are numerous ideas for parents to help their children explore different properties in the eebee dvds In the dvd All in a Day s Play they show a baby banging on pots and pans This may not seem like much but it allows babies to explore sound music soft and loud and rhythms I decided to put this to the test and it was amazing how I could see the wheels turning as Rowan banged on his pots and pans and discovered all of these sounds etc The possibilities are endless and I love how it encourages developmental skills with your baby In the dvd Figuring Things Out a baby is allowed to experiment with a flashlight This was also a big hit with both of my boys and really allowed them to explore light and dark and on and off I think eebee is a perfect fit for babies and even toddlers A cute brightly colored puppet is just the key to engage attention The eebee theme song it catchy and I find Chandler getting up to dance every time it comes on As Eebee s tagline states Every Baby Learns By Doing I couldn t agree more Cons Honestly I tried to find a con with eebee and I couldn t Ultimately I am writing the reviews but feedback from my two munchkins is the most important to me When I see them learning and exploring and developing their senses and staying interested in something for more than a few minutes it s amazing That s a great product The Bottom Line Hands on dvd series that teaches essental developmental skills while still being entertaining and engaging Price 17 95 per dvd or 48 45 for a 3 pack Where to Buy eebee site Rating Excellent via Babes and Kids eebee baby dvds Review Giveaway Contest Corner Interview With Stephen Gass of eebee Permalink Interview With Stephen Gass of eebee eebee is a series of DVDs for babies aiming to transform everyday play into learning that lasts Starring the adorable puppet eebee shows eebee in playing and learning in everyday situations because as their motto goes every baby learns by doing Stephen Gass the creator of eebee recently took a moment to chat with Contest Corner about eebee s adventures Contest Corner What inspired you to create eebee Stephen Gass With my background as a developmental psychologist and educator and having spent much of my career with organizations including Sesame Street Scholastic and Nickelodeon creating educational media toys books and games I was fascinated by the emergence of baby media that exploded onto the market a few years back I was also intrigued to find that little of what I saw reflected the way real babies learn through active hands on exploration and social play Informed by the latest research on memory attention imitation language social and motor skill development we set out to create a new approach to the genre an approach that would go beyond showing decontextualized objects on a screen or attempting to teach academic letter and number skills We wanted to not only engage babies but inspire parents as well Our goal was to be a catalyst for real world play to focus on the foundational skills babies can only build through experience and to celebrate the natural everyday interactions with parents that are essential for learning The exciting and satisfying result of this baby and play centered approach has been the countless reports from families who describe how they are not only playing and interacting with their babies during an adventure but before and after as well Hearing those stories folks sharing baby pictures with us and knowing that we are a playful addition to a parent s arsenal of learning tools is what truly inspires me Contest Corner There seems to be quite a debate these days as to whether or not babies should be exposed to TV What s your take on this Stephen Gass Back in 1999 the American Academy of Pediatricians issued a statement recommending no TV for children under the age of 2 Their concern was based on the lack of research about babies and TV and a fear that TV viewing would take away from critical real world social and physical interactions This was followed by some studies that attempted to draw connections between early TV viewing and later learning problems These studies have been refuted The most recent research indicates what parents already know CONTENT MATTERS The real issues are ones of moderation making sure that you limit the amount of screen time content looking for programming that a baby is capable of not only attending to but understanding and context using TV like any other developmental experience for your child talk about it describe it play along and use it as a scaffold for interaction Damning the medium itself does not help us to understand how when and why it might be an effective tool We live in a highly media and screen centric world Our goal is to better understand the effective and responsible role of media in all of our lives and we know now that what s on the screen and how it s presented can and does make a difference That s what we need to focus on Contest Corner You designed Eebee to fit with your philosophy that Every baby learns by doing Can you tell me a little more about this concept and how this is expressed in the DVDs Stephen Gass Unlike so many baby DVDs that simply display collections of images or are akin to video flash cards our adventures feature eebee the baby s baby along with real babies and real grown ups engaged in real world hands on play Rather than an adventure being about the seasons or animals each adventure is based on a play curriculum and centers around a particular play pattern or material They are social And babies are social learners For example eebee and friends play with water paper and boxes light and shadow rolling and sliding making music building and un building or filling and dumping Rather than showing a picture of a ball to introduce either the word ball or the concept of rolling an adventure will show ball play and exploration in a real world context with eebee and babies playing and exploring with balls and grown ups scaffolding assisting and describing just like in the real world and just like the developmental research and experts suggest We know that watching is no substitute for actual experience but observing and modeling are often the first step to doing Contest Corner What do you hope to achieve with Eebee Stephen Gass Big picture I d like to change the world one baby at a time Maybe the adventures will help to achieve this goal On a more modest level our goal is to engage babies with new ideas through play and grown ups with new ideas about play and development and simply stated to put a smile back into developmental play Contest Corner Do you have any upcoming Eebee projects you d like to share with us Stephen Gass Like every baby it seems like every day there s something new to be excited about with eebee eebee will soon be available in Spanish on DVD and TV In addition to Comcast Cox and Bresnan eebee will also soon be available via MagRack a VIDEO ON DEMAND service on Review Permalink Eebee Adventures Review The idea behind Eebee s adventures is that babies learn by doing that play allows babies to strengthen the skills needed to become thinkers and achievers Inspired by every baby and informed by the latest research on how babies learn and grow eebee s adventures products are designed to help you and your baby transform everyday play into learning that lasts Eebee is the sweetest little baby and Jake loves to watch Eebee and the other children experience different things Like what happens when you scoop up some rice and then tip the cup over and pour it out Simple right To you and I it is simple To a baby it is simply amazing There are so many children s DVD s to choose from and I have had a hard time finding the right blend of entertainment and education I love the ideas that Eebee Adventures gives me It encourages you to start to look at things through your child s eye seeing touching and hearing things for the very first time I have also gotten some great ideas like giving him a bunch of paper to play with and experience what each of them feels and sounds like Here is a video of Jake watching one Doing the Stop click on the link to watch the YouTube video Please excuse the torn up paper from the aforementioned paper play on the ground the blue tape hiding buttons and doors on the TV The segment encourages your child to dance when the music is playing and stop when it stops You ll also see just how much my son loves Eebee when he literally kisses the TV We were able to review the DVD s All In A Day s Play Exploring Real Stuff and Figuring Things Out The first two are for ages 6 months and up and the last is for 12 months and up While Jake is 21 months old he really liked the 6 month and up DVD s the best He originally got a little bored with the Figuring Things Out video but I have been using some of the adventures in that DVD around the house and he is starting to make the connection The DVD s also have bonus features such as Q A with academic leaders in the fields of infant learning play and children s media and expert commentary on every adventure You can purchase Eebee books toys DVD s gifts and clothing on Eebee s Adventures site I encourage you to watch the videos on YouTube like Mama s Beat and Move to the Groove I know as soon as we did Jake was hooked We all love Eebee via A Giveaway Addicted Mommy Eebee Adventures Review Miracles on Mama Street Eebee s Adventures 2 Eebee Video Giveaways Permalink Eebee s Adventures 2 Eebee Video Giveaways Meet Eebee Eebee is a toddler that is learning new things during each waking moment of life just like our own babies and toddlers that are growing up before our eyes The creators at Eebee s Adventure s have developed videos toys and books to engage young children and their parents and grandparents in developmental play that will further the child s learning Children play by instinct Babies will instinctively Take initiative and act on their natural curiosity Make clear choices among different materials and experiences Vary their strategies and try different approaches Persist at a goal and stick to a task Share their discoveries and seek social interaction These are the real basic skills of your baby s first years and these are the hallmarks of great thinkers and achievers The research is clear that the best way for babies to grow and strengthen these skills the skills they need to succeed in life is to play eebee Upon viewing the videos parents will find them rich in language development filled with active gentle play opportunities that REAL parents and children can do on their own and music suited to the adventure taking place My children and visiting children stood in awe while watching the videos They were so captivated by the explorative play that Eebee was engaged in with his parent I as the parent was thrilled to learn of new activities to try with my baby toddler We reviewed the Eebee adventure called Figuring Things Out Skills that were addressed in this video were cause and effect light and dark building and many other skills that your child is learning As an educator I saw the value in learning new explorative ways to participate in play with my toddler via Miracles on Mama Street Eebee s Adventures 2 Eebee Video Giveaways Seeryus Mama Eebee s Adventures Permalink Eebee s Adventures I d like to introduce you to eebee s adventures There is an important philosophy behind eebee s adventures and that is hands on learning Whether you have a baby or a toddler even as they get older our children learn by doing Why not encourage them even more with eebee s adventures Creators Stephen Gass and Don Burton both have a whole list of accomplishments it s truely amazing It s obvious that they have poured their hearts into eebee s adventures I was lucky enough to ask the creator of eebee s adventures a couple of questions How was Eebees created Were you inspired by anyone A few years back I decided to take a closer look at all of the brainy videos for babies that were flooding the market I was amazed at how they didn t reflect the way babies learn through experience and play the essential social nature of learning babies need grown ups to help to scaffold play and learning and to add the language that describes what s going on or that screen based media when informed by the research on imitation memory and attention and general developmental milestones can inspire active engagement and play along play before and play after behaviors My business partner Don Burton a dad of three ranging in age from 1 to 7 set out to create what the press now refers to as the un Baby Einstein option for parents which is all about play exploring new behaviors and discovery in a real world with real objects and real people who make things happen Our goal was not to be brainy but rather to engage babies with new ideas through play and parents with new ideas about play and development in a playful and practical way Do you have children and if so did they
