Just as from nature I am drawn to the openings and insides of the human body how the wet pinkish surface of organs and tissues that hold and encase our innards perfectly in their complexities are seductive as they simultaneously repulse us with grotesque rawness These corporeal forms aesthetically resemble natural flora and fauna and it is this very juxtaposition of natural beauty and sublime fleshiness that seduces repels and motivates me to manipulate tactile materials into new environments The role of dreamscapes and fantasy are also culprits in formulating my sculptures My materials become entangled in space to compose invented habitats ones that become an attempt to reveal fantasy through concrete form and materiality This fantasy is intended to personify a view of life one that exudes a sense of energy a sense of vitality a sense of rawness of beauty of sublime decadence namely and one that examines the gap between the ordinary and extraordinary In using a broad range of materials I morph elements from nature with organ like structures Complimenting forms that are constructed from cloth wax plaster and latex I also incorporate craft based materials such as sequins and artificial foliage The naive and familiar
