  • FANS REVIEWS - Emily Maguire
so heartfelt that you can t help but be moved by them and the arrangements in this cd really enhance the songs If you buy nothing else this year you should really buy this Highly recommended The most beautiful album of the year By Millwall Dave I first heard Emily Maguire in 2011 live at Little Rabbit Barn in Essex From that point I was enthralled by the music the lyrics the performance and the story behind the person Emily s music is a journey a journey through her life into her deepest darkest thoughts into the light of hope and to inspiration for us all Bird Inside A Cage takes that journey further and by her own admission into love Beautiful and North and South typify that gentleness and positivity she has found There isn t a track on this album that disappoints One moment you re tapping your foot the next Emily s words pulls at your heart strings Her music weaves in and out of your soul leaving you wanting more Fortunately Emily tours widely so much of the album can be witnessed live And that just takes the whole experience to another level You will not hear a better album this year Another Favorite Album From Emily By Craig A Walker Emily s fourth album is wonderful and picks off where she left off with her fantastic 3rd album Believer Emily s beautiful music and moving lyrics tell a story in each song The title track Bird Inside a Cage was written for Times Columnist Melanie Reid who broke her neck and back in a horse riding accident in April 2010 Melanie has chronicled her inspirational journey towards recovery in a regular column in The Times While in London Emily read the touching story of how her husband remains steadfast by her side This moving tale inspired Emily to write the song at the piano as the words just poured out of my head The song is a moving tribute to their love My personal favorite is Over The Waterfall because Emily s lyrics touch my soul as she relates a story that I know so well and find so incredibly hard to tell myself And of course there is the incredibly uplifting Beautiful which Emily describes as a song for women everywhere It is indeed but as a man I have to say that I enjoyed it as well and so hopefully will you The whole album is an absolute keeper Beautiful and poignant By P Cranfield This album is even better than her last and that really is saying plenty Emily has a real delicacy and vulnerability in her voice which clearly reflects her own challenges But it s not just about the voice the songs are all 5 star there isn t a single track which disappoints The album is also a tribute to the efforts that she has made through her fan base to raise the cash to produce the thing but

  • The Times Magazine - Melanie Reid
in London and is released on Monday It s an achingly beautiful song written for me and my husband but in a much wider sense dedicated to anyone in an apparently hopeless situation who is rescued by the power of love But it s love that saves us when all else has failed us When you just can t take another day The first time I heard it I wept uncontrollably the second time wasn t much better And I wish I could have taken up Emily s invitation to be at her gig but it s really off putting to see a middle aged woman cry and the journey was daunting so I decided to stay home Emily was inspired by an article I wrote in 2011 on the first anniversary of my accident She told me I went to stay the weekend near Cambridge with my dad who is an avid Times reader On the cover of the Times Magazine that Saturday was an extraordinary picture of you standing up in a kind of robotic contraption The headline was One Year On and the article you d written was all about your first year in a wheelchair I d read your column before but that article just unwrapped my heart In it you mentioned having a conversation with your husband about whether he would stay or leave When I got home I put the Magazine cover on my piano keyboard stand and started writing It was one of those songs that fell out of my head and onto the page And it became as much about your husband as it was about you his voice sings the whole second half of it I guess I felt it was a true love story Emily knows about cages she had
