  • Overview
able to access the management port If Plone can be accessed via http 192 168 1 150 8080 or something equivalent that generally means that Enfold Plone Zope is running Hardware Considerations Enfold Proxy and by implication Internet Information Services need to run on the same machine Sufficient disk space for proxy logs and cache directories By default each proxy configuration is set to use a maximum of 10 gigabytes of hard drive space This can be increased or decreased Plone typically uses a lot of RAM especially if you are installing multiple Zope clients in Enfold Server and by itself is expensive in processing http requests To counter that Enfold Proxy keeps cached copies of all kinds of web content and in so doing reduces the number of requests to Zope Upgrading If you are upgrading from a previous version of Enfold Proxy you should temporarily stop IIS during the installation process to prevent a reboot being required You should do this via command line instead of using the IIS configuration tool to ensure that all services have been successfully turned off The installation program will let you know if this is necessary For more information see the topic upgrading Enfold Proxy Cleaning orphaned content For Upgrades Only For users who were using a previous EP version it may be necessary to run a script to recognize and delete orphaned content This command line utility ep cache check lets you count and remove orphaned content C Program Files Enfold Proxy ep cache check exe Opening cache Cache has 257 entries but 540 files exist Computing missing files Computing orphans We have 283 orphans use fix to correct this As the prompt says you could run the same command with the fix switch Doing that will remove these 283 orphans

  • Enfold Proxy Changes
Proxy now supports caching responses other than 200 Meaning Redirects Not Found and other HTTP responses can be cached Windows Installer now detects the version of Windows directs web browser to the correct instruction based on Windows version Enfold Proxy configuration checking tool eep check exe is stricter and provides better feedback Enfold Proxy configuration utility now has a support tab that will automatically zip all log files and place them on the users desktop Other improvements and changes Enfold Proxy 5 now requires IIS 6 or higher Windows XP Windows 2000 or earlier are no longer supported Windows 2003 Vista and Windows 2008 are supported X Cache Hit accurately reflects the age of a cached item Bug in encontrol which resulted in MAX Log rollover size to not be written correctly to configuration file Connection response header may have Close Close as value this is no longer possible Increase the default timeout for remote server from 90 seconds to 180 seconds There are no longer Plone virtual directory created in the IIS Manager Proxy log analyzer tool improvements check help Version 4 7 April 2009 Cache storage had a possibility of having different date representations which could reduce effectiveness of cache Improvements around IIS worker process recycling Removed asynchronous logging capability which could generate incorrect logs Fixed a race condition which could cause EP to become unresponsive upon IIS startup Added a eep ini configuration for thread pool shutdown timeout Version 4 6 January 2009 Enfold Proxy will no longer attempt to prime the EP cache by modifying incoming client requests in certain cases doing so led to poor performance EP will not store an item in cache until the first non conditional request for that page comes from a client Minor tweaks to the wording on encontrol error messages and docs Documented a method for making 64 bit EP run in 32 bit mode Version 4 5 October 2008 The cache is now far more RFC compliant and returns all headers from the original request except set cookie Increased RFC compliance makes it easier for Enfold Proxy to work with existing caching infrastructure and tools Natively runs as a 64 bit application within Internet Information Server 7 IIS 7 Official support for Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit All URLs are now correctly quoted and utf8 encoded URLs are supported Note this may not be supported by the backend Zope Plone server A new setting for the log files called the Headers log level makes it easier to read HTTP headers and verify that caching is taking place Other improvements and changes minor changes to the user interface and documentation Fixed a bug that sometimes caused a response with an incorrect content length to be returned making some requests appear to hang Default setting for cache size is now 100MB was 10MB and default max cached item size is now 200k was 100k Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the cache to act as if it were

definition by using the configuration utility After verifying that the newest version of Enfold Proxy works uninstall the earlier versions of EP on the live machine Via command line on the live machine turn off IIS services iisreset exe stop Install the latest version of Enfold Proxy onto the same machine as the live server Running the install withat will uninstall the previous EP version Via command line on the live machine turn on IIS services iisreset exe start Second Method Install on the production machine Saves Time Useful for Simple configurations Copy your original eep ini file into a safe place Via command line turn off IIS services iisreset exe stop Install EP Via command line turn on IIS services iisreset exe start Move your original eep ini file back to the Enfold Proxy install directory where it was originally The first method is safest and recommended But if you are already sure your proxy definitions worked before and not doing any special out of the ordinary customizations see reasons for editing the configuration file manually then the second method will usually suffice Previous versions of EP used different terminology and sometimes asked users to configure EP by editing the eep ini file For Version 4 onward Enfold recommends that users configure EP by using the configuration utility instead of hand editing the eep ini file This prevents editing errors and ensures that changes are propagated successfully to Microsoft s Internet Information Services IIS Importing eep ini files from an earlier version of EP to the latest version should generally be safe especially if you generated the file completely from the configuration utility instead of hand editing it If for some reason the settings from your existing eep ini do not work the Enfold Proxy configuration utility will start even though some of the proxy definitions won t be active To see which of your proxy definitions is not functioning run the check utility Another idea is to delete the eep ini file causing problems it will be autogenerated after the configuration tool is restarted and start again from scratch adding one proxy definition at a time Should I restart or reboot IIS when upgrading It is not necessary to reboot the server machine on which IIS runs when upgrading Enfold Proxy All you need to do is to restart the IIS services on your server machine via the command line When upgrading Enfold strongly recommends that you stop and restart the IIS services by running these commands Run iisreset exe stop Run the upgrade install with the Enfold Proxy exe file Run iisreset exe start It is true that IIS 6 and IIS 7 have options in the GUI to restart the IIS server or a IIS website But the best practice is not to use these options and instead start stop services via the command line on Windows When you turn off IIS using the GUI you may in fact be leaving certain IIS services running By

must be checked if you are using single signon with NTLM World Wide Web Services Security Windows Authentication This must be checked if you are using single signon with NTLM NTLM Single Sign on is a feature which lets Enfold Server authenticate using Active Directory If you are not using Enfold Server or are not using NTLM you don t need to enable Basic Authentication or Windows Authentication After you make these changes press OK Vista will provide a dialog saying Please wait while the features are configured After a minute or so this dialog will close and EP will be installed See also Installing Enfold Proxy and Upgrading Enfold Proxy Internet Explorer 7 on Vista and Windows Authentication This applies only to sites run by Enfold Proxy and Enfold Server with NTLM Authentication Logged in domain users on a Vista machine SP 1 may experience browser problems on IE 7 with automatic login This issue does not affect NTLM authentication on Firefox If this problem occurs domain users on Vista SP 1 may need to change some settings on IE 7 In the advanced tab browsers in the authenticated domain need to uncheck the option labeled Enable Integrated Windows authentication Note that you still need to keep the option in Security Settings for Automatic Login with current user and password for NTLM to work This IE 7 issue with NTLM authentication seems to affect only Vista Service Pack 1 For more thorough documentation about enabling and troubleshooting NTLM authentication see the documentation for Enfold Server http www enfoldsystems com Support Server Editing Config Files in Vista Vista s security model is intended to prevent the user from accidentally writing editing system or configuration files The Encontrol configuration utility will automatically prompt for the necessary elevation of privileges but if you wish to edit this file by hand you will need to do so from a process that is already elevated ie started with Run as Administrator see the Vista documentation about how to do that 64 Bit Issues Enfold Proxy runs as a native 64 bit application on Vista and has better performance than the 32 bit Vista version of Enfold Proxy Generally there are no incompatibility issues The only issue so far is that in 4 5 XSLT doesn t work in 64 bit Vista Downgrading 64 bit IIS to 32 bit IIS IIS 7 and Enfold Proxy run as native 64 bit applications so Enfold Proxy contains full support for 64 bit IIS Occasionally a need may arise to make 64 bit IIS 7 to run in 32 mode instead of 64 bit mode This can happen for example if you are already using ISAPI filters that need to run in 32 bit mode in this case it would make sense to make IIS 7 run in 32 bit mode Note This method for downgrading 64 bit IIS works only on IIS 7 It does not work on IIS 6 The steps are pretty simple Open IIS
