  • Overview
one Zope client or more IIS must be left running when installing Enfold Proxy Generally you cannot use Enfold Proxy until you have a running Plone site Generally that means being able to access the management port If Plone can be accessed via http 192 168 1 150 8080 or something equivalent that generally means that Enfold Plone Zope is running Hardware Considerations Enfold Proxy and by implication Internet Information Services need to run on the same machine Sufficient disk space for proxy logs and cache directories By default each proxy configuration is set to use a maximum of 10 gigabytes of hard drive space This can be increased or decreased Plone typically uses a lot of RAM especially if you are installing multiple Zope clients in Enfold Server and by itself is expensive in processing http requests To counter that Enfold Proxy keeps cached copies of all kinds of web content and in so doing reduces the number of requests to Zope Upgrading Version 5x of Enfold Proxy requires that IIS be running whenever you upgrade install uninstall For more information see the topic upgrading Enfold Proxy Cleaning orphaned content For Upgrades Only For users who were using a previous EP version it may be necessary to run a script to recognize and delete orphaned content This command line utility ep cache check lets you count and remove orphaned content C Program Files Enfold Proxy ep cache check exe Opening cache Cache has 257 entries but 540 files exist Computing missing files Computing orphans We have 283 orphans use fix to correct this As the prompt says you could run the same command with the fix switch Doing that will remove these 283 orphans This is a way to reduce the amount of space on your machine New users

  • Enfold Proxy Changes
created in the IIS Manager Proxy log analyzer tool improvements check help Version 4 7 April 2009 Cache storage had a possibility of having different date representations which could reduce effectiveness of cache Improvements around IIS worker process recycling Removed asynchronous logging capability which could generate incorrect logs Fixed a race condition which could cause EP to become unresponsive upon IIS startup Added a eep ini configuration for thread pool shutdown timeout Version 4 6 January 2009 Enfold Proxy will no longer attempt to prime the EP cache by modifying incoming client requests in certain cases doing so led to poor performance EP will not store an item in cache until the first non conditional request for that page comes from a client Minor tweaks to the wording on encontrol error messages and docs Documented a method for making 64 bit EP run in 32 bit mode Version 4 5 October 2008 The cache is now far more RFC compliant and returns all headers from the original request except set cookie Increased RFC compliance makes it easier for Enfold Proxy to work with existing caching infrastructure and tools Natively runs as a 64 bit application within Internet Information Server 7 IIS 7 Official support for Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit All URLs are now correctly quoted and utf8 encoded URLs are supported Note this may not be supported by the backend Zope Plone server A new setting for the log files called the Headers log level makes it easier to read HTTP headers and verify that caching is taking place Other improvements and changes minor changes to the user interface and documentation Fixed a bug that sometimes caused a response with an incorrect content length to be returned making some requests appear to hang Default setting for cache size is now 100MB was 10MB and default max cached item size is now 200k was 100k Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the cache to act as if it were full even when empty Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the cache to leave orphaned files in the cache folder even after items were updated See also Known Issues related to the 4 5 release Version 4 0 May 2008 New features include Optimize server performance with statistics from a new log analysis tool Easily set up the server to create Web pages from XML files with XSLT processing Choose the level of support that s right for you with new annual subscriptions Other improvements Speeds error diagnosis during setup with a better configuration checking tool Improves proxy performance by reusing connections to the remote server Enables a cache purge to take place in the background eliminating the need to stop the server Fixes a bug that degraded cache performance by leaving stale files in the cache directory Fixes a bug that prevented includes and excludes of names containing spaces Improved help can now be accessed from within the configuration tool Descriptions in the configuration tool uses the phrase

the live server that will uninstall the previous EP version Restart IIS If adding proxy definitions one at a time you may need to restart each time Second Method Install on the production machine Saves Time Useful for Simple configurations Copy your original eep ini file into a safe place Install EP 5 The first method is safest and recommended But if you are already sure your proxy definitions worked before and not doing any special out of the ordinary customizations see reasons for editing the configuration file manually then the second method will usually suffice Previous versions of EP used different terminology and sometimes asked users to configure EP by editing the eep ini file For Version 5 Enfold recommends that users configure EP by using the configuration utility instead of hand editing the eep ini file This prevents editing errors and ensures that changes are propagated successfully to Microsoft s Internet Information Services IIS Importing eep ini files from EP 4 to EP 5 should generally be safe especially if you generated the file completely from the configuration utility instead of hand editing it If for some reason the settings from your existing eep ini do not work the Enfold Proxy configuration utility will start even though some of the proxy definitions won t be active To see which of your proxy definitions is not functioning run the check utility Another idea is to delete the eep ini file causing problems it will be autogenerated after the configuration tool is restarted and start again from scratch adding one proxy definition at a time Deleting Orphaned Content Earlier versions of EP had a bug that prevented cached content from being deleted For users who were using a previous EP version it may be necessary to run a one time

  • Adding a Proxy Definition
a java servlet you added inside IIS www funsite1 com media could be used to serve videos from a media server you added to IIS When should you NOT create a proxy definition Exactly one proxy definition should correspond to one IIS site You should not need a second proxy definition to point to the same IIS site Having problems Check the troubleshooting checklist or the common tasks in Enfold Proxy or the FAQ For this example we will create a simple proxy definition use Enfold Proxy to map a Plone site to the host http www originalfunsite com Things to do before Creating a Proxy Definition Configure your first IIS host Verify that your IIS host resolves correctly Make sure Plone or Enfold Server is running correctly Creating a Proxy Definition for your IIS Host After you have verified that your host or domain resolves correctly within a browser you can now add a proxy definition to link this host to a Plone site Open the Enfold Server Configuration Utility to do this Start All Programs Enfold Server Enfold Server Configuration Utility Modify write down the management port number for this Zope client Note Each Zope client must have a unique management port number If not then the Check Utility will show an error Disable the HTTP port usually port 80 for the Zope client Your ultimate goal is for Enfold Proxy to listen to port 80 requests to this IIS site and to communicate with the Zope client via port 8080 Here is a screenshot of typical settings for your Zope client in Enfold Server Restart any Zope client s you have modified by choosing the Start Stop option on the left panel Open the EP Configuration Tool Click the folder on the left panel Proxies Choose Add a Proxy Definition Give your proxy definition any name you want Adjust the basic settings if necessary By default the new host comes with the most common defaults Local host Virtual host root Plone These settings will cause the root of your URL to go to the Plone site automatically created within your Zope client The Plone site object should be visible inside the Zope Management Interface ZMI Change these values when necessary You can verify the value for Virtual host root by logging into the ZMI application root and verifying that a folder corresponds to this value already exists For more see Using the ZMI Add the Virtual Host that corresponds to your management port of your Zope client The virtual host can be an IP address or a resolvable host Examples 127 0 0 1 8080 192 168 1 150 8080 localhost 8080 In your Proxy Definition select the Site tab on the top When you come to that screen you will see a dropdown screen for the Site screen Choose the IIS site which is serving the host domain you will be using For this we shall use Default Web Site which uses the www originalfunsite com

to http localhost 8080 manage You can find the management port for your Zope Client Enfold Server Open Enfold Server Configuration Utility Start All Programs Enfold Server Enfold Server Configuration Utility Expand the settings for the Zope client you are using if more than one Click on Ports in Use Note the number corresponding to the Management Port default is 8080 and be sure it is enabled Plone generic Open the zope conf file under Plone install directory Client etc zope conf The port number will be listed on a line such as this define ZOPE MANAGEZODB PORT 8080 The other context for viewing the ZMI is specific to a single Plone site You can access it from Plone s control panel From this context you are able to change the settings only for one Plone site and not the others How do you know if the ZMI web page is application root or a ZMI specific to a Plone site These signs will indicate you are looking at application root when you type in the host port number i e http localhost 8080 you see the generic Zope page usually when you append the word manage to the URL i e http localhost 8080 manage you will see a two panel interface with Control Panel appearing at or near the top This will not appear in the context of an individual Plone site you will not see various objects named portal this only appears in the context of the Plone site s ZMI Adding another Plone Site using the ZMI Requirement You must be in the application root of your ZMI and not within the context of another Plone site For this example application root will be at http localhost 8080 One common reason for accessing the Application root of your ZMI is to add a Plone site or even to delete one When Enfold Server is initially installed you will see an object called Plone at the application root i e http localhost 8080 Plone To create another Plone site you need to add a new Plone Site object Use the dropdown menu to Add a New Plone site Give it a unique id not Plone for example For this example give it the id Plone2 Check the application root of your ZMI to make sure the object called Plone2 appears Verify that you can access the new Plone site by going to http localhost 8080 Plone2 You should see a generic Plone site here Note If you go to the URL for this site it will look like a generic Plone site and not include the customized bundle of Enfold products When you first install Enfold Server the default Plone instance will include these customizations Plone sites which are created later will not include these products unless you manually add them You can easily add these Enfold specific products by going to the Plone Control Panel usually http localhost 8080 Plone2 prefs install products form or the
