  • 2016 New Hampshire Republican Primary (event) by Glowing Fish - Everything2.com
much time and attention over the summer and who had finished second in the Iowa contest last week won with 35 of the vote with Kasich Cruz and Bush coming in a distant 2nd 3rd and 4th But while that night was short the previous week was long In the wake of the Iowa contest Marco Rubio the Senator from Florida was considered by many to be the big winner despite only placing third However in a debate Chris Christie attacked him and the situation going into New Hampshire was muddled Also in the wake of Iowa Rand Paul Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum all dropped out It looked like there was some chance that a consensus establishment candidate would arise but by the time of the election none had done so So Trump s 35 barely an overwhelming number still managed to make him the clear front runner Jeb Bush Marco Rubio John Kasich and Chris Christie are all tied for the rather large pie of establishment candidate Together they got 45 of the vote What they face now is a prisoner s dilemma of sorts Although they all want an establishment candidate to consolidate the anti Trump vote none of them wants to give up their own ambitions to do so Each one of them has flaws that make it hard to see how they can be the front runner and yet by the normal rules of party politics one of them must emerge There will probable be a winnowing of the field soon with Christie already reportedly reconsidering his bid In any case two things are clear the race will continue to be involved and competitive and it is time that people start looking at Jim Gilmore I like it 1 C Rand Paul Prisoner s Dilemma

  • Ash Wednesday - Everything2.com
in the name of the Church to the observance of a holy Lent by self examination and repentance by prayer fasting and self denial and by reading and meditating on God s holy Word And to make a right beginning of repentance and as a mark of our mortal nature let us now kneel before the Lord our maker and redeemer Silence is then kept for a time all kneeling If ashes are to be imposed the Celebrant says the following prayer Almighty God you have created us out of the dust of the earth Grant that these ashes may be to us a sign of our mortality and penitence that we may remember that it is only by your gracious gift that we are given everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Savior The ashes which are made of burnt palm fronds from the previous year s Palm Sunday are used to gently mark a cross on each forehead The following words are said as the ashes are impose d Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return Psalm 51 is sung or said and then a Litany of Penitence is said The Celebrant and People together all kneeling Most holy and merciful Father We confess to you and to one another and to the whole communion of saints in heaven and on earth that we have sinned by our own fault in thought word and deed by what we have done and by what we have left undone The Litany continues responsively with the Celebrant saying the words in plain text and the congregation replying with the words in italics We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves We have not forgiven others as we have been forgiven Have mercy on us Lord We have been deaf to your call to serve as Christ served us We have not been true to the mind of Christ We have grieved your Holy Spirit Have mercy on us Lord We confess to you Lord all our past unfaithful ness the pride hypocrisy and impatience of our lives We confess to you Lord Our self indulgent appetite s and ways and our exploit ation of other people We confess to you Lord Our anger at our own frustration and our envy of those more fortunate than ourselves We confess to you Lord Our intemperate love of worldly goods and comforts and our dishonesty in daily life and work We confess to you Lord Our negligence in prayer and worship and our failure to commend the faith that is in us We confess to you Lord Accept our repent ance Lord for the wrongs we have done for our blindness to human need and suffering and our indifference to injustice and cruelty Accept our repentance Lord For all false judgments for uncharitable thoughts toward our neighbors and for our prejudice and contempt toward those who differ from us Accept our repentance Lord For our waste and pollution of your creation and our lack of concern for those who come after us Accept our repentance Lord Restore us good Lord and let your anger depart from us Favorably hear us for your mercy is great Accomplish in us the work of your salvation That we may show forth your glory in the world By the cross and passion of your Son our Lord Bring us with all your saints to the joy of his resurrection The Bishop if present or the Priest stands and facing the people says Almighty God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who desires not the death of sinners but rather that they may turn from their wickedness and live has given power and commandment to his ministers to declare and pronounce to his people being penitent the absolution and remission of their sins He pardons and absolves all those who truly repent and with sincere hearts believe his holy Gospel Therefore we beseech him to grant us true repentance and his Holy Spirit that those things may please him which we do on this day and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure and holy so that at the last we may come to his eternal joy through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen A deacon or lay reader leading the service remains kneeling and substitues the prayer for forgiveness appointed at Morning Prayer Almighty God have mercy upon us forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen us in all goodness and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life Amen The Peace is then exchanged The Celebrant says The Peace of the Lord be always with you And the people respond And also with you Then the people greet each other in a similar fashion saying Peace be with you or The Peace of the Lord or just Peace In some churches this means that people greet the folks sitting nearest them and maybe they shake hands In my church people get out of the pews and walk around exchanging the Peace with anyone they can get their hands on There s lots of hugging Our priest breaks it up when she hears people making plans to go to lunch together after church After this the service will probably continue as if it were Sunday with Communion but without music Originally noded under BCP Ash Wednesday I like it 2 C s thing by TheAnglican Wed Feb 10 2016 at 14 49 10 I met a lot of people who were trying to work on the non material working out their own salvation for themselves They picked and chose out of their own desires finding cool Gods and spiritual practices that amounted to arts and crafts to delight themselves I m not religious I m spiritual They had good motives but they fashioned their Gods and their practices in their own

  • Ash Wednesday (thing) by TheAnglican - Everything2.com
I ve decided not to eat chocolate it s not good for me Or the idea of Lent being about punishing yourself somehow It s to use a metaphor about burning weeds and remaining pasture to put nutrients in the earth and give the ground clear space to grow things anew There are ashes on your forehead I m not religious I m spiritual Self reflection and mindfulness are all part of the Christian tradition When you give something up or take something on it s designed to make you more mindful I m giving up meat not because of tradition but in the spirit of eating more mindfully I ve taken to just eating whatever s around to my detriment This is going to force me to plan out what I eat and eat what I need If you take on prayer it s because you re trying to make that a habit and to promote that kenosis I m not religious I m spiritual If you go into the churches that are usually known for their liturgies their bells and their smells their stained glass and altar clothes you ll find them barren and spartan today The rituals remain intact but take on a different meaning Everything you expect out of church is stripped back There are no alleluias There are no bright fabrics There s no emphasis on the day to day of what the church normally does We re preparing We re preparing for Easter We re preparing ourselves I m not religious I m spiritual We re not our bodies we re not our clothes We re not our position in life our class or our caste That is hammered in to us week in and week out through communion shared liturgy confession of sin and confession of faith We are reminded every week we are dust and to dust we will return There s an ever rotating set of altar flowers a new set almost every week on behalf of someone who has died and whose family wish to memorialize him or her We pray for the dead and look to their resurrection The reading for this morning is Matthew 6 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moths and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moths and vermin do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal 21 For where your treasure is there your heart will be also I m not religious I m spiritual It s a time to be less concerned about our creature comforts our treasures And more about working on who we really are Yes there will be resurrection but as some people have joked every man wants to go to Heaven but no man wants to die I m not religious I m spiritual Mortality is the theme for today The grave was imminent for Jesus and it

Bred in captivity for dozens of generations by now the fancy rat trusts its human companion absolutely and is spot on social A good fancy rat will never bite If your rat bites you and I don t mean no nibbling here but flowing blood and tearing flesh you have a problem Besides finding a bandage Rats live short lives and live them fully and they wet themselves all the time everywhere Be prepared to deal with a lot of pee Pee is not toxic it just is Wipe wipe wipe And then snuggle Rats forever If I could change the interweaving threads the slight slinking ways of yesterday s words If I could find the crumbs you dropped on your way to the castle beyond the dark woods maybe I could pick up on the silence in your eyes and unwrap the stitches keeping you inside your own drifting dreams If I could Isabelle and the Dragon I keep thinking I should end the story about Isabelle and the Dragon but then I keep getting pulled back into their beautiful and enigmatic mess of love destruction and hope I am guessing that at times parts of their motion movements won t read as easily as others I have purposely twisted any hope of any real timeline and inserted a lot of loose ends and unspoken emotion At times Isabelle and the Dragon are together alone and then again they are together with their father For the most of it Isabelle is living solely through her memories thus enabling her to return to places she has once called home but which no longer exist She may also suddenly remember moments of great happiness and joy as if they were happening a new Contrary to Isabelle s role the Dragon is a diffuse and mostly shadowy character living through Isabelle s actions and words It is the Dragon s task to defend Isabelle when the story turns surreal and frightening The Dragon usually tells the story letting us watch Isabelle dancing around which is something she likes to do The Dragon s gender is not defined Currently only two parts are being told by Isabelle These are from Isabelle to you and the song of starfish The storyline of Isabelle and the Dragon 1 stranger with no intentions 2 the difference has blurred 3 from Isabelle to you 4 turning fluid oily and tar black seeping through all the cracks Interlude interlude take your stormy weather along 5 painting stars that have not come to be 6 the dreams that should have died 7 the song of starfish 8 a dream you did not have 9 Now she s in my doorway accusing me with her soft breasts and long legs strong hips 10 11 12 And Isabelle is sitting at the table guiding her beautifully gentle hands across my coarse paper I want you to know it does not matter it never has I have wanted you to move on
