  • U.S. Ryder Cup Strategy - I'm Not Sold
    party which included 22 potential U S Ryder Cup players Tiger was there in his role as vice captain Phil Dustin Keegan Rickie and Jimmy were just a few of the names enjoying Jack s company not to mention his steak and lobster By all accounts it was well received and all of the players had a great time With all of that being said I m not at all convinced that the whole task force idea is a good one or even well thought out As a matter of fact the more I ponder the more I believe it may end up doing more harm than good First of all the notion that the Americans aren t as team oriented close knit or as buddy buddy with each other as the Europeans is just not true In fact I would argue just the opposite I think our boys care TOO MUCH They are far too concerned about letting their teammate s down rather than just playing golf Which would explain our horrible record in the foursomes fourball formats and relative domination in singles play When our guys don t have to worry about letting down their mates they are freed up to simply play golf Unfortunately by the time we get to the singles matches our squad is too far behind to have a realistic chance If I were Ryder Cup King I d get the guys together the night before the event begins I d have them all look at each other and apologize for bad shots and missed putts that will surely plague each of them on occasion over the course of the Cup I d then have them slug each other in the arm tell each other to man up and let s go play some

    wet weather course guru I try to avoid playing rain golf like the dentists chair I ve been around long enough to have some insight So here you go 1 Get yourself to Eastern Washington whenever possible Duh Western Washington is wet Eastern Washington not so much While you re likely to dodge winter rain Eastern Washington offers up it s own brand of winter Namely snow temps below freezing and the occasional biting wind As a general rule the Tri Cities area in SE Washington represents your best bet for a winter getaway Unlike most areas east of the Cascades the golf courses in the Tri Cities encompassing the cities of Richland Kennewick Pasco don t close during the winter So if it s dry you seek make your way east as your schedule and pass conditions allow O K now that I ve bloviated on the obvious fix to West side wetness here s my list of direst Western Washington golf courses in no particular order These courses are all built on terrain and or incorporate sandy types of soil allowing for rapid drainage Physical location may also play a part For example Cedars at Dungeness drains well

  • Long Be Gone
    the past couple of years you know that this marks the first PGA Tour event in which the anchored putting ban is officially in effect My question to all of you is simple Which golfer male or female and on any tour will be most adversely affected by the ban A year ago I might have said Keegan Bradley However he made the change several months ago and seems in control Adam Scott will be worth keeping an eye on He also made the change to a short putter but only a month or so ago He tried the change prior to the Masters last year and when push came to shove he stuck with his broom He has been streaky with the short version since his change so it will be interesting to see how he deals when the pressure gets crushing Mental midget or uber talented We ll soon see A better argument for who might get hit the hardest would be for guys like Carl Petterson and Tim Clark Both have used an anchored putting stroke since they turned professional Since they grew up using the long putter they really have little or no experience with other methods so for them the change will be difficult All of that being said the one player who I m predicting will drop off leaderboards faster than John Daly s pants at a beer soaked BBQ is Bernhard Langer For any of you old enough to remember he was so afflicted with the putting yips back when he was still on the regular tour we d see some funky new grip putting style putter stance or all of the above nearly every week Then he discovered that anchoring a long putter to the middle of his chest fixed all that

    European Ryder Cup stalwart and bane of the American side s existence Ian Poulter got himself into a bit of a bind Read More 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 You see Poulter needs to play in a minimum of 13 events on the European Tour to keep his membership and be eligible for the Ryder Cup where he has compiled a 12 4 2 record and was largely responsible for two of the last three European wins The Englishman was counting on playing the HSBC Champions in Shanghai in two weeks But with Andy Sullivan and Emiliano Grillo winning tournaments last week they moved into the top 50 and bumped Poulter to No 51 and he was out of the World Golf Championship event in China Enter Rich Beem After being asked and making a couple phone calls Beem stepped aside and gave his sponsor s exemption to Poulter At the end of the day I was their obvious choice Beem said I wasn t going to say no and be a jerk It was a situation where the right thing needed to happen And this was the right thing Problem solved Poulter retains his European Tour card remains eligible to slap around the American Ryder Cup squad next year and Beem ascends to angelic status for his selfless deed All is right in the world Whoa nellie I d like everyone to take a slow step back from the Rich Beem Wailing Wall for a minute and let s review I ll start by saying that Ian Poulter is incredibly LUCKY to get this break Back in the day his poor planning would have fallen under the category of Tough Titties or Stupid on your part does not create a
