    Putney team full time Mike worked as a marine science instructor and boat captain in California Hawaii and Washington He has led a total of ten groups abroad including a Putney summer community service program in the Caribbean and National Geographic Student Expeditions programs in Belize Monterey Bay Indonesia and Australia Mike oversees leader hiring and coordinates programs in Hawaii the National Parks Belize and Bali Renee Crispe Mount Holyoke College B A Critical Social Thought with a focus on art and social action Renee is part of Putney s Admissions team A Vermont native Renee loves to be outdoors and enjoy the seasons with her husband and two children She enjoys exploring and discovering new places In her free time Renee likes to dance read and practice her new found love of cooking Susannah Poland Stanford University B A Susannah is an anthropologist and musician who grew up in the New England woods and has traveled and conducted research in East Africa Mongolia and Nepal and francophone Europe For her thesis Susannah documented oral histories and healing traditions in northern Tanzania studying the meaning and usage of traditional beadwork She then worked for the curatorial department of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art researching emergent African feminisms and contemporary artists Before joining Putney Susannah did fieldwork on a climbing expedition to Mount Everest to study decision making in extreme environments She organizes programs in Francophone Europe and Nepal Annie Agnone Ohio University B S Visual Communication B A Psychology The University of Alabama M F A Creative Writing Before joining Putney Annie taught English composition and creative writing to undergraduates storytelling to high school students from Alabama s Black Belt region and creative writing at a medium security prison She also worked as a design and web editor for the literary magazine Black Warrior Review Annie has led programs in Ireland and Prague and in Tuscany for National Geographic Student Expeditions In 2010 she spent four months working on farms in Tuscany and Sicily and in 2013 she was awarded a National Geographic Young Explorer s Grant to document nocturnal culture in America Her writing and photographs have been published at The Rumpus and National Geographic s Intelligent Travel blog Annie organizes our writing programs and others in Europe and the U S She enjoys cooking cross country skiing and practicing yoga as well as hiking and road tripping with her partner and two dogs John Linsley St Lawrence University B A Government Maxwell School of Syracuse University M A International Relations John s love of travel began in high school when he studied in Germany on an exchange program Since then he has worked and traveled in East and West Africa Asia Europe Central America and the Caribbean John is fluent in Swahili the regional language of East Africa and has led Putney s Cultural Exploration Kilimanjaro program and the Community Service Tanzania program for several summers Last summer he led our Community Service program in the

  • 65 Years of Experience in Teen Summer Programs Abroad | Putney Student Travel
