another dose of the album s core themes which Catherine sums up as deconstructing typical ideas of love and romance The 5 track EP also features remixes by White Hinterland Philip Reach and Jermaine Soul as well as an orchestral reworking mixed by Cenzo Townshend Regarding the new single Catherine says This is the only song on the album that I wrote entirely on the guitar when my hand was too badly mangled to play the piano studio related injury and I had to wear a metal cast for months even to turn door handles The song went through three different incarnations before it decided it wanted to be a duet with co producer Paul Draper on joint wailing duties here We ended up recording this final version in my snatched sleepless so called days off from the UK leg of the Simple Minds tour replaying the guitar over the original drum bass and organ takes from the first studio sessions Originally it was something I d written for my best friend who had just come out of her first long term relationship after enduring horrific brain surgery from a burst aneurysm Lyrically I guess it continues with the album s dominant themes of deconstructing normative ideas of love and romance No baby baby s here This woman just basically wants you to leave her the fuck alone There s another duet version with a full string section that we recorded just before the one that you hear on the album I said to Paul that we had to scrap it due him sounding too much like Barry Gibb on the middle 8 Christ knows what I m saying in French at the end I don t actually remember recording that due to an overabundance of Tramadol The Anchoress debut

with the house band and survived something of a baptism of fire Young Clive Powell had passed the audition and came off stage as Georgie Fame his new name as a member of Parnes stable In 1960 Fame was part of the touring band that backed rock roll legends Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran for their first UK tour A year later Parnes deployed Fame to play piano with Billy Fury And The Blue Flames Fame lasted a year with Fury before he and the rest of the band were sacked by Fury s roadie Hal Carter during a rehearsal at Paris s Olympia Theatre Out of work and contemplating a move back to Lancashire Fame was taken by a friend to Soho s Flamingo Club where he met manager Rik Gunnell In the basement they held the All Niter and from March 1962 every Friday and Saturday midnight to 6am where Georgie Fame And The Blue Flames held court It was here that the band really began to cook developing a musical palette that was beyond a lot of the blues influences that other UK musicians and bands were all soaking up at the time In came the sounds of Ray Charles Booker T The M G s Richard Groove Holmes Mose Allison James Brown Rufus Thomas Jimmy Smith and blue beat Fame was also making a real name for himself in the Ladbroke Grove and Paddington area playing at Jamaican parties hosted by DJ Count Suckle this would lead to Fame recording with Prince Buster in 1963 The Flamingo club nights would always attract a large amount of American GIs West Indians and later Mods who wanted to dance until they dropped so the band s live sets were suitably raucous and exhilarating Georgie Fame the charismatic young singer Hammond organist and bandleader had become the coolest cat in town and in 1963 aged 21 signed his first recording contract From 1963 1966 he released four hit albums for the Columbia label Rhythm And Blues At The Flamingo Fame At Last Sweet Things and Sound Venture two of which went Top 10 His first number one single arrived in 1964 with Yeh Yeh which knocked the Beatles from the top of the charts A year later he would appear on the first Motown tour in the UK alongside Smokey Robinson The Supremes and Stevie Wonder and score a second number one single with Get Away He was a regular on the TV show Ready Steady Go always immaculately turned out and displaying a rhythmic confidence that reached right down to his shoes Georgie Fame was putting the Swing into the Swinging Sixties The Live Tour To commemorate the release of The Whole World s Shaking The Complete Recordings 1963 66 the legend that is Georgie Fame will be touring with his ace band featuring sons Tristan James in October Oct 17th Black Box Belfast Oct 18th Rose Theatre Kingston Oct 19th White Rock Theatre Hastings Oct 20th Playhouse
