for the next big British success story picking up accolades and recommendations by an ever expanding legion of fans across the UK His eclectic debut EP All That We Keep picked up hefty rotation and session performances on national radio and with gigs already selling out in London and his native Wales it s an almightily impressive introduction to this intriguing young voice Penny Lane born and Penarth bred Lawrie blames his parents for his idiosyncratic tastes in music and for the passion in his songwriting His mother plays the oboe in an opera his father makes woodwind instruments and his grandfather played on the original recording of Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles Raised listening to the sounds of Stevie Wonder Pink Floyd Elton John and The Beatles Pete s recalls that childhood summer family drives across the South of France were deeply rewarding musical journeys Similarly to his debut EP In The End features three more golden examples of the broadness of Pete s song writing His melody driven southern soul draws upon bittersweet blues gospel and country all capped by his rough hewn vocal The lead track is a ruggedly assured pop song dealing with an emphatic chorus The EP concludes on a raw and respectful cover of Loudon Wainwright III s Motel Blues stepping out of the seventies and sounding as poised and poignant as Wainwright s original It acts as another tantalising taster to the forthcoming debut album release in early 2011 and enhances Pete Lawrie s growing reputation as a finely chiselled master of a very soulful art www PeteLawrie com EP Tracklisting 1 In The End radio edit 2 Black Blue 3 Souvenir 4 Motel Blues Loudon Wainwright III cover Pete Lawrie UK Live Dates 23rd September Blag Club Notting Hill London 27th

London native Wayne Murray releases The Firebrand a 4 track EP under the name Boy Cried Wolf on School Records on November 1st Recorded at Faster Studios in Cardiff with producer Sean Read Beth Orton Edwyn Collins and mixed by Dave Eringa Manics Idlewild Answering Machine the EP consists of four original songs one of them featuring lyrics written by Nicky Wire A timelessly beautiful EP of North Circular Americana The Firebrand is the first proper release from Boy Cried Wolf a band who ve been slow burning around London clubs and dives over the last eighteen months Kicking off with the title track and finishing with the hangover blues of Ballad of a Drunk Man The Firebrand EP is country rock and western roll with one foot planted firmly in Murray s hometown The EP s aforementioned title track is a glorious dusky campfire sing along featuring James Dean Bradfield on backing vocals while No Comfort From Your Skin features a set of lyrics penned especially for the band by Nicky Wire Wire heard the song as a live to tape demo and offered to pen some words for the track To Murray this was something of a surreal experience having grown up as a huge Manics fan He says From obsessing over listening to a cassette of Generation Terrorists as a kid to playing and touring with the Manics to having Nick write the words to one of my songs it was a pinch that felt like a punch to wake me Each track was penned by Wayne over a six month period at the end of 2009 and recorded at the start of this year in Faster Strings on each track have been arranged and played by The Vulcan Quartet Boy Cried Wolf will be playing some

is just a collection of notes and words that fell out of us when whilst practicing in Gateshead Like lots of places we ve travelled to there a strange disconnect between the people and their environment Despite the simplification of bleak streets and wild youth the lyrics can maybe convey the yearning subject matter more accurately People like Seamus Heaney and John Betjeman have definitely been an influence so they are probably important harbingers for us too This is the primary release on a new independent label to which we ve signed It s called Dirty Hit and despite the grime on the wall of a sweaty club name connotations they happily share our passions for autonomy honesty and brevity But yeah hopefully you ve gotten something from this the biographical stuff is below Thanks for reading if you ve got this far Fingers crossed you like the track we put a lot into it but if not no worries objectivity is fine x Robert Michael Mark and Matt first met in a little greengrocers beneath the hue drenched hills of Newcastle upon Tyne Sharing a mutual abandon for David Bowie dalliance and limes they became a bonded musical quadrilateral in 2008 playing a series of gigs in barns houses university lecture theatres prisms and trains After this things fluctuated wildly between recording an album in a school farmhouse produced by Michael mixed by Rich Costey playing gigs with people like Hockey Delphic and Noisettes and falling out with a rather large record label Influenced by books as much as music as much as their natural surroundings Little Comets try to capture bits and pieces from places like Jonathan Safran Foer Kate Rusby Joan Miró and attach them to songs Using bright rhythmic melodies to assuage often dark didactic lyrics
