    project was made in collaboration with Harvard s metaLAB and the Woodberry Poetry Room In the words of Matthew Battles of the metaLAB re verse is a participatory location based sound installation in which snippets of recorded poetry from Harvard s collections the voices of renowned poets crowd together at the gates of Harvard s historic Yard They murmur together chorusing with music composed for the piece and one another

  • ROUND:Cambridge
    location in the city with their own recordings about the public art or anything else and those recordings are immediately available for other participants to hear within the context of the piece when in the same location Each participant experiences a continuous unique real time audio stream as they walk weaving location specific voice content in with a location aware instrumental composition ROUND Cambridge is a new piece of public art commissioned by the Cambridge Arts Council that not only exists in the public domain like the sculptures murals and other public art in Cambridge but also is created from the raw material of thoughts ideas and commentary collected from the public in an actively inclusive way By allowing people to leave their mark or tag on the landscape in a non destructive way Cambridge is transformed into a collective audio work This project was in soft release mode collecting seed commentary since mid 2011 and officially opened in the fall of 2012 with an accompanying gallery exhibition at the CAC gallery Many of the voices now populating the landscape were recorded by the Public Art Youth Council which is a program of the Cambridge Arts Council and the City

  • Hotel Dreamy
    of installations that will take on different forms but which will all involve recollections of dreams in one way or another I am fascinated by what happens in people s subconscious and I wanted to create a space where dreams typically totally isolated from each other can come together and hang out in a sense Participants can record their dreams using an iOS app contribute them to the piece and listen to their dreams co existing with those of all other participants in an evolving musical collage The initial life of Hotel Dreamy was as a part of the 2012 Museums and the Web conference in San Diego The intention was for it to provide a slightly different way for attendees to interact with each other Hotel Dreamy has subsequently gone on to be a part of the group show Inglorious Materials at the Charles Bank Gallery in NYC as well as a part of the Deep Listening Institute s Dream Festival 2012 We performed an arrangement of Hotel Dreamy at the 20th Anniversary celebration for ThinkPad at the MODERN MOMA in NYC as well And most recently Hotel Dreamy was a part of a group exhibition at the American

    journal itself which can be listened to while reading the journal Here are excerpts from a brief description of the piece that is included in the print journal Music for Journaling is a participatory audio installation designed to be experienced in conjunction with this journal It is an audio environment containing music inspired by this journal mixed with spoken voice commentary recorded by journal readers across the globe The piece will continuously evolve as participants record their thoughts and react to those of other readers as well as the content of the journal itself All responses are immediately assimilated into the musical composition for everyone to hear PAD is about sharing ideas and creating a critical community focused on public art and its role in society Music for Journaling is a piece of public art created directly from these ideas and this community Participant commentary will continually be added to the piece and will be algorithmically folded into an ongoing global conversation about the content of the journal and about public art in general The piece begins its life with only instrumental music and as more people add their comments this audio landscape will become increasingly populated and more non

  • Mountain Ghosts
    Participants use a custom smartphone app to make audio recordings that the Mountain Ghosts system then codes by location and immediately assimilates into a collective databank for other visitors to access As participants walk through the UCCS campus listening to location based music and participant commentary they can respond to prompts on the Mountain Ghosts interface that invite them to reflect on their surroundings and contribute recordings of their thoughts

  • Voices Without Faces
    concurrently They wanted to dive into the topic of race in a more local and artistic way and I was honored to take on this incredibly important and sensitive topic Audio Sample Your browser does not support the audio element Video Documentation From the exhibition materials The population in the Greater Boston area is comprised of people from a wide range of ethnicities and cultures This diversity is exemplified by the neighborhoods along Route 28 Running for 152 miles through 28 municipalities the road stretches from country to the north through suburbs and manufacturing towns past the Museum of Science through the heart of Boston and down to Cape Cod With the aim of capturing the individual experience past and present of race in Boston sound artist Halsey Burgund and the Museum collected the voices of people living in towns along the Route 28 corridor This audio collage Voices Without Faces Voices Without Races is the result of over 250 interviews about race that were held at the Museum and in community centers offices and homes up and down Route 28 from Methuen to Mashpee The video which traces the drive shows the physical diversity of landscape Like the conversation about race this soundscape of voices and music is generated in real time and continuously evolving We invite you to leave your pre conceived ideas at the door suspend what you think you know and simply listen Through meetings with community groups the Museum of Science concluded that a valuable complement to the RACE Are We So Different exhibit would be a component that provided local perspective on race in Boston We decided that an audio collage could be successful at capturing an accurate sense of the role race has and continues to play in Greater Boston The work of
