their character and love them for who they are WOW what an awesome reminder Unfortunately those of us with mental health disorders often find ourselves not only isolated and withdrawn but also consumed with self doubt and low self esteem Most times it doesn t matter what others are trying to tell us we can t hear their messages through the chatter of our skewed thoughts and feelings However when we finally find ourselves on the other side of an episode and our feelings and thoughts begin to clear it s the perfect time for us to hear positive reinforcing messages Whether we are fortunate enough to receive these messages from family or friends or say them ourselves we need to hear them so we can move further into mental wellness Do your best to remind yourself Thanks to my strong faith and treatment plan I made it back It took courage to get the help I needed to return to wellness and I did it I love myself I love myself I love myself Family members and or friends what a difference you can make in consumers lives if you share similar messages I ve always believed you had

achievements of the athletes on the playing field defining their purpose for inclusive sports play in schools and communities throughout the state With the USA Games comes an opportunity to impact he lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals and change the attitudes of millions more How many of you have ever felt you were training for the Special Olympics as you relapsed time and time again with your mental health disorder I know I did After each of my four psychotic breaks it took the endurance of a well trained athlete to persevere through the challenges of finding the right treatment program and the right medication cocktail With each successful recovery I indeed felt as though I had won the event and at times even won a medal Like these athletes many of us have spent time rebuilding our confidence to reach further than our prognoses these illnesses brought with them We fought and trained to get back in the game of life Not only did we fight to survive our illnesses we fought to thrive in spite of our disorders The events were arduous and the strain intense yet we held on until we crossed the finish line

both useful and visible so I can see it and feel a sense of accomplishment Tidying up clutter is one example I also try to do something helpful for someone else Angela via Facebook I PRAY FOR the grace to feel better about myself Then I visualize myself completing the task L R APPLETON WI DEPRESSION WAS either the cause or consequence of my many projects never completed dreams and goals that went unattained But depression permits a powerful tool of cynicism to assess the cold unvarnished truth Those who don t get totally crushed by depression can actually use it to see which things they are truly good at and enjoy genuine accomplishments What a relief not to be one of the depression deprived who waste their lives in an orgy of self adulation A SADDLE RIVER NJ I OFTEN THINK of the time I walked 20 miles with my oldest son taking part in the Walk for Hunger in Boston in 2009 and the time I went skydiving with him in 2009 These and other activities gave me great pride and I focus my attention on them during those times when I lack self confidence C M BRANFORD CT I HAVE very low self esteem and it is very hard making myself get out of bed some mornings If I am able to concentrate I think back to a time before I began treatment and medications and had no hope at all But now I am employed and helping others as a peer specialist My self worth is watching those that I help grow K G CINCINNATI OH I TALK TO my psychologist who helps me to keep things in perspective Name Withheld CALGARY AB I CALL a good friend It s always a reminder there is someone who wants me in their life even when I m depressed Recovering from depression comes with a sign Don t try this alone T W DENVER CO I CHANGED MY to do list to very easy simple tasks and I worked on that Then at the end of the day I reminded myself of all the things I did do and I congratulated myself on that J K TORONTO ON WHEN I WAS too depressed to even move off of the couch I took up crochet My hands were busy and I produced interesting useful things That gave me a sense of accomplishment with a minimum amount of exertion since I had just enough energy to move from my bed to the couch to sit and watch TV Stephanie via Facebook I have a little tablet of paper saying I will do one thing today I fill out one of those each day with just one thing to accomplish it can be something I m good at then I get some self worth from completing at least one thing each day If it is an okay day then I might go on to other tasks but it s nice knowing
