it leaves me unable to get out of bed do work or accomplish even the simplest task What works most for me is meditation I find my inner hope and hang on Going deeper to center beyond surface distractions and tapping into the awareness that these dark feelings will soon fade away gives me the focus and energy to get back up get busy and get going again G T Mesa AZ When I was depressed I was constantly irritable and I was extremely critical of myself and others I frequently overreacted to situations I buried myself in my work I ate poorly and I put on a lot of weight I treat my depression with an antidepressant and occasional visits to my doctor I exercise regularly and try to eat better I also volunteer with my local NAMI National Alliance on Mental Illness organization C B Closter NJ Depression and recovery time has cost me about 10 years of my life As a result I m that far behind in my personal and career development But I m still on track I believe I can accomplish anything It just might take me a bit longer Deep soul searching and honesty humility meditation medication and family support have been key elements in my approach Today I feel confident and look forward to the future Name Withheld Costa Mesa CA Depression has profoundly affected my life I take my prescribed meds and am happy to say I have not known depression in six years Having been through several bouts and survived them I state here that I will continue to survive It can get me so very down but it cannot beat me I am stronger R C Alberta As a caregiver many people may see me as a positive outgoing individual They do not know the bleak struggle I have had with recurring depression It tends to isolate me from the very people I need That s what I attempt to be for others but many times I cannot find those types of people when I am mired down in depression and tears flow down my face like today B C As a man work has largely given me a sense of self worth But because of a deep dark depression I lost my job and was unable regain employment I then made a big mistake by trying suicide With the help of hospitals doctors medications counselors friends family and a belief that God could and would help me I am doing much better even though I am still unemployed E G F Victorville CA I find the best way to deal with depression is daily exercise and a balanced diet I know it sounds obvious but it s the best way to keep your mood even Name withheld Managing my stress level is a key to managing my depression Also exercise helps along with music therapy cognitive behavioral therapy support groups and support from friends and family Name withheld
