and put it in priority mail so that it got there in time The jeweler happened to be on the way to the mall so I stopped by Never mind the fact I was running behind because I had to turn around once I left my house to go back and get the paperwork for the watches She brought the 3 watches out and immediately I put my main watch on I d felt very naked without it The other two I put in my purse Two days later I finally go in to my purse to get the watches out and find that one isn t working at all the other I can t get the stem back in So now back to the jeweler I go I was a little angry but more so with my self than the jeweler I didn t bother to take the 1 minute needed to check the watches before I left with them Then I suddenly realized how many times in the last few weeks I had taken a shortcut AND realized each time I ended up spending more time effort than if I d just not taken the shortcut to begin

into a funeral chapel The governor was among the speakers of the memorial service that was broadcast statewide on television and radio After the convoy headed to a cemetery in the county to the south It was all for Officer Doug Barney He had been gunned down several days before as he pursued on foot an armed man This tragic death occurred just a few blocks from where my wife and I were staying But all the respect and devotion really weren t for Officer Barney Most likely a small fraction of those honoring him on this day personally knew him It was for all the brave law enforcement people who put their lives on the line daily to protect us I thought this emotional outpouring was most appropriate and long overdue But further if I ran things another group of people would also be honored by everyone psychotherapists As far as I know they rarely lose their lives during their work But they do save many lives by helping prevent suicides For others like myself they facilitate getting people to a better life through recovery from the constant burdens of depression anxiety and other brain diseases They help significantly by increasing happiness and the quality of life for the individuals they treat A couple months ago I attended a suicide prevention conference attended primarily by mental health professionals It was entitled Care of the Care Giver Many of the plenary and breakout session were about how therapists can better cope with compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma These two terms were new to me They describe important sacrifices made for me about which I should be more cognizant I could tell that my therapists really cared about me and my well being They exerted considerable emotional energy during our sessions
