  • Express Install with AS2 and AS3 | Kenny Bunch
on your root with the following codes Download Complete Download Cancelled and Download Failed What are the options with Express Install Now you can handle this one of two ways implementing the logic to do the update in your own application or use an updater swf that is a proxy or prerequisite for your application swf when needed If you were to go with the first option you are baking the code to do the update in your application AKA bad choice because isn t that the whole point Your application is using a version of the player that you need to update to In previous AS1 AS2 cases the code is fine and could still run but it s somewhat defeating the purpose However in the case of AS3 no chance to collect cash and get out of jail you are stuck The proper Express Install The proper way to do this is option 2 using a SWF whose sole purpose is to do the update Luckily about 99 of the web is using SWFObject whether 1 or 2 and this is built in for your comfort and joy With both implementations which use Javascript to embed a SWF you just define your Express Install SWF and you are good to go In addition you are given the source of the SWF to manipulate if you are feeling fancy What SWFObject then does is run through a series of steps based on the version of player you have installed 1 Runs a JS detect to see if you have the version needed Yes it writes out the content SWF No is there an Express SWF and the player is above 6r65 No write out Alternative content 2 Yes embed Express SWF which then runs through it s process Express

the iconography used All of the candidates are represented by their parties mascot donkey or elephant This doesn t make sense unless you are comparing 2 entities of different parties A better icon for the graph would have been an image of the candidate since they are the entity that is physically in the race Another criticism is the actual style guide of interface elements up over disabled states Needless to say the designer working on the project had an issue with it too A lot of the elements look disabled when they are selected enabled when disabled etc All that said I think the module turned out great but I think the taste is sometimes when all the details match up One thing we did do to jazz up the module with a bit of flair was to add the ability to scale the graph and animating the icons from point to point Like with design it s sometimes the little things that make and application more pleasurable and fun to use Check it out let me know what you think and remember to pay attention to the details on your projects it all adds up Written by kbunch

NBA mosaic the mosaic video was a single video that had 4 different views in it The broadcaster combined all 4 into the same picture and broadcast that video you see this in the news sometimes When I received the video before I showed it I cut it up and then placed it into pieces I wanted What this allowed me to do is have the mosaic be 4 interactive elements that the user could zoom in and out of them in real time Since I could have as many duplicates of the video parts that I wanted I was able to use each video section in the actual buttons as well This gave real time views of each section So technically and visually the concept is pretty cool However it is interesting that it has some actual benefits as well You can t achieve the interactivity another way without opening all 4 feeds at once which is expensive on the server the bandwidth and client machine aka not feasible By opening a single feed you are consuming only the bandwidth for one stream you are never hit with the delay of switching a stream your feeds are never out of sync and you have full control over manipulating the entire mosaic Are there downfalls Yes there are For one this is only possible with video whose rights you have to script In the case of using FMS you need FMS3 and the server must allow you to capture the video s pixels in it s application script p client videoSampleAccess or via it s configuration The other downfall is that because you have 4 videos in one each individual video s quality is a lower because your are zooming a smaller space All that said this is an interesting

can understand that but a little forewarning goes a long way to my reaction Then he goes on to say that I should get a response in the form of an email about my purchase Super this is what the other email had told me I mentioned the previous purchase I had attempted and the outcome I asked him to check that order He said I had no other orders but I insisted and gave him the which I had saved So he checked it and after 5 minutes responds that my bank turned it down To that I told him it s a credit card company not a bank and asked him if we could just process the order over the phone since a card can be simply called in His response was you will get an email Finally I was getting frustrated and asked for a supervisor So I waited on the phone for 15 minutes and then they hung up on me So yes I hate to say it but Adobe s Store sucks I say it in hopes that maybe the comment will improve it I love Adobe but you can t put your customers through that kind of ringer My outcome I m don t have the software running on the OS I want it to be on so I m not going to be as efficient I m also still waiting on the email approval but I ll probably end up going to a physical store like Apple and buying it UPDATE My order magically went through finally as it says I can go download it but it I go into my account and it still says pending It s leaving a bad taste in my mouth UPDATE AGAIN So I never followed up on what happened but I finally got my software A representative from Adobe personally followed up with me and promised to address some of the issues I pointed out I totally appreciated that and hope that my gripe will save some others pain in the future Written by kbunch No comments Posted in Uncategorized January 30 2008 51 days in Kazakhstan As the title reads I recently spent 51 days in Kazakhstan I was not there on business but by choice Having traveled to a lot of places but traveled no where I ll make a statement At the root of all things everything is the same I would say this for all places and people in various walks of life What I mean by this is that at the core we all share the same dreams fears passions anxieties and experience the same things as we pass through our lives Fear and misunderstanding can make people perceive differences but they really don t exist I ve always felt this way but experiences like the one in Kazakhstan are great reinforcers While I was there I met wonderful people who will forever be in my heart The funny thing is

though I saw some of these people everyday for 4 weeks our communication was limited mostly to gestures single words or referring to books Yes the entire time I was there I had no interpreter You might think that s somewhat crazy but it was also very enlightening Everything can be seen in demeanors expressions and emotions Don t believe me just sit outside in a large city and watch everyone around you as they move through their life That said it was a beneficial experience but a hard one Being unable to really fully communicate and share feelings with those around you can be very isolating It can also take a toll when you are trying to accomplish simple things like looking for things to eat especially when grocery stores don t exist Needless to say I have been back for almost 2 months eating like crazy and am still 18 pounds less than my weight when I left Anyone who knows me will tell you I didn t have the weight to lose I ve also been sick for about 4 weeks straight Sound bad I won t lie it s been rough but I m finally feeling like I m on the road to recovery I also wouldn t trade it for the world So what does my road look like now Well considering the past 4 months have been a wild ride and the prior year was one of uncertainty I had no idea when I d have to go since you have to have an invitation to Kaz it looks pretty good With the dream of Kaz in the bag it s time to start making the others happen Here s to looking and moving ahead Written by kbunch Posted in Uncategorized One comment January
