in the more opportunities you can have You never know if the person sitting next to you is going to change your life Resumes are nothing in design development jobs an online portfolio is a must In looking at canidates the first thing I want to see is a portfolio Where you worked who you worked with it doesn t matter The quality of your work is the determinant Typically if you have sent in a portfolio and the company contacts you you have a chance at the job At this point a company has already looked at your work and is interested it is up to you to sway them I pointed out if you interviewed find out what they are about go home and design or develop something for them then the next day follow up with them and send what you created Show enthusiasm If you want a job let the company know People want to work with someone that is eager excited and willing to put forth a great effort To the opposite of that don t show lack of enthusiasm or an ego No matter how good you are people won t work with you if they don t like you Develop your core knowledge and constantly expand it As with anything the deeper your knowledge of the subject the more valuable you are If you truely grasp what you are doing you will stand out versus someone that understands just the surface layer Written by kbunch Posted in General 2 comments August 10 2006 11 39 am eric shoemaker You did great Kenny The students loved having you and your input was well received Thanks again for taking time out to talk to everyone Reply December 25 2006 10 49 am Dazzer Definitely sounds

  • Todd Wagner’s Vision of Entertainment | Kenny Bunch
the metaphor for the web was a page and not an application There was an explosion of services and information early on but it didn t fit into our lives easily The web was slower the applications more cumbersome and the information harder to sift through We have seen all of these elements mature To that effect the masses won t adopt something unless it is a pleasure to use and provides some benefit in their daily lifes Case in point look at MP3s Napster and the IPod Though we all may have visions of what is to come they will never be realized until we make them accessible to the masses It is when things become beneficial to us by either desire or need that we push them into our lives and our culture As Todd switched gears to what he is doing in the present the endpoint of his ideas touched on experience You can see from Todd and Mark s endeavor s that they are vertically integrated in the entertainment industry from production to distribution This integration could be partially compared to Apple s vertical integration with ITunes Store ITunes software and the IPod Though parts are different they are seeking to make the end to end routing of entertainment more efficient Apple currently handles the digital route while Todd and Mark are seeking both traditional and digital routes Todd s thoughts on these routes came out like a line for line play out of Bill Gate s The Road Ahead In Gate s book published in 1995 he describes entertainment breaking down into a multiplatform release with variant pay points for each platform For example some will pay more for the convience of accessing a movie at home while others want the experience of socialization and will go to the theaters I completely agree and would say that it applies to various media distribution as we have seen with ITunes The problem is that traditional media fears emerging distribution routes as being canablistic on existing routes In reality parts of the consuming public don t feel the experience of existing routes are appealing Therefore some people are not consuming because the routes are not appealing to them and an entire audience is being missed out on Therefore in a lot of ways emerging routes are for an audience that you are not getting or are losing If you do not open up an easy route for that audience they are lost or they turn to unsanctioned pirated routes In retrospect I would say I m excited about what Todd and Mark are doing They are owning the shop versus convincing it which I struggle with constantly Being in the same space it was an honor to get first hand insight from someone so influential in shaping the future of entertainment Written by kbunch Posted in General One comment August 3 2006 9 09 am Scott Bower The issue is those properties he has are distributed is

myself with doing that in the context of programming as I opted to be a panelist for the Converging Media Cross platforms for the People session at the FITC2006 in Toronto Though I was unable to attend the conference I was finally able to come close to verbalizing in print why I do what I do Everyone has their own story their own desire that draws them to this profession below is what I said mine was Kenny Bunch s passion for programming began at age 8 on an Adam computer By creating his own choose your own adventure games he realized early on that he could use the computer as a tool to make his dreams a reality From that point forward his mindset became a motivation to create things that would make people s lives better The first real world opportunity he was given to achieve this goal was at CNN Serving as the lead Flash developer he began working on easing the ways the world consumes information communicates and entertains itself Of course with every quest there are many markers before the finish Moving past CNN he has held positions as lead Flash application developer at Cartoon Network Adult Swim and as Software Architect at both Bellsouth and Gametap In an effort to further expand his vision and experience Kenny formed Dreamsocket Alongside the work with Turner Dreamsocket provided an outlet to work with clients like CBS Rolling Stone Nascar Motorola IBM ING and a host of others Each of these positions projects and experiences has been one more step in the quest Whether it s a smile on a child s face from owning digital cards from Cartoon or connecting long distance friends with communication applications he is moving forward However his goal has not been reached and each day Kenny strives to do something new in order to give back to world that has given him so much So that was my strike at trying to write a quick formal bio What it doesn t say is how I came from a small town with no concept of anything other than a factory job at best What it felt like the time I actually created my first program Skipping grade school to go to my friend s house that had a computer The fact I grew up with very little but could create something that was more valuable than anything someone else could buy What it felt like when a child that had nothing described having more digitial cards in an application I wrote than all the other kids in school What it feels like to be where I am now Honestly everyday I wake up I have to pinch myself It s hard for me to imagine my life I have been so fortunate due to some extremely good luck some hard work and some really wonderful friends I intend to take full advantage of that As bold as it might sound I will

  • Kenny Bunch | thoughts from a software dev and business owner | Page 6
software create very high profile projects with it but I wanted to buy another full license for CS3 web premium on Mac Yesterday I went online to purchase it made my order and then get a response that the order is pending No where before this last state do I recall being informed my purchase was going to take time to process So problem here is that I m onsite with someone and I want to run the software now on a specific OS installed on my box I figured it wasn t so bad since I can do builds of the code with Ant etc and don t need the Flash IDE immediately or can run a different OS Time passes then I get an email saying that my purchase has been declined Since I m using a business credit card with a very high limit this made no sense Therefore I tried to make the purchase again Same thing pending At this point I m wondering what is going on Adobe has online live chat so I opened a conversation only to find that the person is a sales person not a customer rep Great At the same time I had made a call to customer service which finally got answered 2o minutes later by someone in India I gave him all my info and had him check the order He mentions that orders above a 1000 dollars have to be completely approved before processing them Ok I can understand that but a little forewarning goes a long way to my reaction Then he goes on to say that I should get a response in the form of an email about my purchase Super this is what the other email had told me I mentioned the previous purchase I had attempted and the outcome I asked him to check that order He said I had no other orders but I insisted and gave him the which I had saved So he checked it and after 5 minutes responds that my bank turned it down To that I told him it s a credit card company not a bank and asked him if we could just process the order over the phone since a card can be simply called in His response was you will get an email Finally I was getting frustrated and asked for a supervisor So I waited on the phone for 15 minutes and then they hung up on me So yes I hate to say it but Adobe s Store sucks I say it in hopes that maybe the comment will improve it I love Adobe but you can t put your customers through that kind of ringer My outcome I m don t have the software running on the OS I want it to be on so I m not going to be as efficient I m also still waiting on the email approval but I ll probably end up going to a
