    storm drainage and paving at the intersection of Interstate 40 and SR 171 Mt Juliet Road L I Smith Associates Inc recovered the original survey points and verified for horizontal and vertical accuracy Road centerlines and ramp baselines were established on the ground for the construction to begin L I Smith set slopes stakes for new construction and offset hubs when needed Offset hubs were set for the bridge abutments and piers and for the retaining walls US 79 SR 76 Carroll County Tennessee Owner Tennessee Department of Transportation TDOT L I Smith Associates Inc is providing route surveying services as a subconsultant to Smith Seckman Reid Inc for a road design and structural design project on US 79 SR 76 in Carroll County from West of Cutlip Lane to West of Winston Road Sydnor Road Project consisted of gathering topographic data in observed areas that was not available by aerial photography Surveys were tied to the Tennessee State Plane Coordinate System with TDOT adjustment Work included the location of all pipes and culverts utilities above and below ground elevation of all suspended wires and as built surveys and drawings of all bridges L I Smith was also responsible for the location of the existing right of way all property corners and boundary line for intersecting properties At the onset of the project L I Smith notified all property owners by registered letters of surveying activities in their area Additional information was obtained by house to house interviews for any additional information as to wells septic tanks and any other underground utilities Project Length 4 8 miles US Highway 64 Lawrence County Tennessee Tennessee Department of Transportation As a subconsultant to Vaughn Contractors L I Smith Associates Inc provided the lines and grades for the grading drainage construction of a concrete box beam bridge and paving on side roads on US Highway 64 SR 15 beginning east of US 43 SR6 and extending to 0 5 miles west of the Giles County line Surveying services provided consisted of checking and verifying horizontal and vertical control slope staking and setting blue tops for dirt and gravel L I Smith Associates Inc also set the control for all drainage structures and established the horizontal and vertical control for the construction of the bridges on the project County Road 16 Wall Triana Highway Madison County Alabama As a subconsultant to APAC Mid South Inc L I Smith Associates provided the engineering control for the construction of widening planning resurfacing traffic striping and signalization on CR 16 Wall Triana Highway from Gooch Lane to the Madison City limits This included establishing and maintaining survey control sloping staking blue topping staking manhole and structures curb and gutter and sidewalks SR 315 Improvements Water Valley Yalobusha County Mississippi L I Smith Associates Inc provided surveying services as a subconsultant to J J Ferguson Sand Gravel Company for this construction project on SR 315 in Water Valley Mississippi In addition to roadway and bridge staking for this

    contract drawings and specifications Football Stadium LP Field Nashville Tennessee As part of the Barge Waggoner Sumner and Cannon team Mr Paul McDonald provided photogrammetric and digital topographic services for this project The project consisted of color aerial photography covering an area between Woodlawn Street I 24 65 Shelby Avenue and the Cumberland River Aerial photography was acquired at 1 400 negative scale Horizontal and vertical ground control was established by GPS methods on Tennessee State Plane Coordinate System NAD83 Control was provided by the Barge Waggoner Sumner and Cannon Nashville Tennessee survey office The digital mapping was at 1 50 with 1 contours All roads buildings visible utilities fences and parking areas were digitized The mapping was provided in order to aid the engineer in the layout and design on the new football stadium As this project was time critical the digital mapping was completed in 10 days Warner Park Land and Topographic Survey Chattanooga Tennessee L I Smith Associates Inc provided a land and topographic survey of Warner Park in the City of Chattanooga working directly with the City Engineer Prior to the onset of the project L I Smith Associates first obtained all the existing information that was available including any existing surveys researched all recorded and unrecorded deeds and easements utility plans and local state and federal control markers both vertical and horizontal L I Smith made use of existing aerial photography to compile the survey project The footprint of the building was matched with random shots on the ground to verify the overhang of the building Ground control and aerial interpretation was used to ensure the quality control of the vertical datum All evidence of encroachment was noted and shown on the drawings All calculations that were performed were provided to the owner Data was gathered with the use of GPS and tied to the local grid as well as conventionally tied to local monuments The final plat and detail drawings were provided in AutoCAD format Parks and Aerial Photography St Louis Missouri The St Louis County Department of Parks requested to have seven 7 of its parks flown with aerial photography with 2 foot contours L I Smith Associates set panel points using GPS The control was set to the Missouri State Plan Coordinate system The project was coordinated with the Parks commission personnel since some of the locations had controlled access Aerial photographs were then converted to digital orthographic images and DTM created to show the contour lines Digital topographic mapping digital orthophotos and DTM files were delivered on electronic media Color Digital Orthophotos Wilson County Tennessee This project required the acquisition of color aerial photography for approximately 600 square miles in order to update the County s digital orthophotos DTM and planimetric detail The aerial photography was flown by Richard Crouse and Associates Since the County had been digitally mapped in 1997 the original mapping was used as a base to update the existing GIS system Ground control points were established by

    data processing was completed using the latest version of PAGE NT ADJUST and UTILITIES GEOID and WINDESC available from the NGS website Station location sketches and visibility diagrams including photography of each control point were created as documentation to meet the requirements of the FAA Small Diameter Sanitary Sewer Cleaning and Inspection San Antonio Water System San Antonio Texas L I Smith Associates Inc provided GPS mapping services as a sub consultant to Quality Pipe Services for the San Antonio Water System on a project to clean internally inspect and record the condition of designated wastewater collection system manholes structures and pipelines in San Antonio CCTV inspection was performed using a CUES Generation 3 CCTV camera system with survey data being collected and coded per NASSCO PACP standards via WinCan Vs 8 software The survey team at L I Smith Associates provided GPS mapping services using GPS RTK methods and technology and included collecting x y and z coordinates on over 4 200 sanitary sewer structures and manholes The data collected was used to update the San Antonio Water System s GIS system Sanitary Sewer Inventory and GIS Mapping City of Boynton Beach Florida L I Smith Associates Inc provided services as a sub consultant to AUI LLC to locate sanitary sewer manholes using survey grade GPS equipment and methods for the mapping of approximately 5 000 sanitary sewer manholes and to provide assistance with GIS mapping applications The GPS location of manholes was part of a larger project which has a primary goal to clean televise and prioritize rehabilitation needs for the City of Boynton Beach Florida L I Smith Associates Inc provided Quality Control by finding and locating NGS monuments in the area and comparing the located coordinates with the known coordinates to verify accuracy Quality Assurance was practiced to ensure each point was attributed with the correct information Deliverable files were provided in the ArcGIS shapefile format and other database formats with the unique point ID X Y Z coordinates and other attribute information requested The data could then be combined with attributes collected by AUI and incorporated into a GIS map for the City Utility Department The overall project included the cleaning and CCTV inspection of approx 500 000 feet of sanitary sewer 1500 manhole inspections and 5 000 GPS locations City of Bowling Green Kentucky Stormwater Mapping Project L I Smith Associates Inc was contracted by the City of Bowling Green Kentucky to utilize GPS methods in locating 3500 storm sewer structures throughout the city The project required that structures be located to within 4 centimeters in the X Y Z direction Field survey crews collected various attributes including structure type and size The collected attributes were formatted to work with the existing structures in the city s GIS system Upon project completion the data was imported into the Bowling Green s GIS system L I Smith Associates Inc also added to the City of Bowling Green s Stormwater geodatabase through GPS location approximately 800

    includes handicap accessibility ramps parking realignment street lighting and landscaping for beautification and enhancement of the downtown business district The sidewalks to be constructed in this project will connect the business district to the old school site which will later be converted into a community center The existing streets will be milled and new asphalt overlain to remove numerous asphalt overlays Nichols Road Bridge Henry County Tennessee Consulting services provided included topographic survey of the project area hydrology and hydraulics of various alternative designs preliminary and final cost estimates geotechnical investigation and recommendations structural design preparation of construction plans specifications and bid documents permitting construction administration and construction inspections Testing was performed on the subgrade and gravel for the roadway approaches and the required quality control testing was provided for the concrete This county road bridge replacement project consisted of a double box culvert 2 16 x12 The new bridge was designed for a 2 year storm event with a peak flow of 575 cfs Survey and Design of Existing Gravel Road to upgraded 2 Lane Paved Road Tennessee Trail Henry County Tennessee Project consisted of providing survey and design of a County Road to accommodate a new golf course The project included additional right of way drainage calculations sight and stopping distance structural thickness design alignment and overall road template This project was a public private partnership The county provided funds for the surveying engineering and inspection The private partner paid for the construction The road was surveyed for the entire length of 6 miles It connected two county roads The partnership decided to only completely design three 3 miles of the total road since the existing road had only a prescriptive right of way The entire right of way had to be established and additional right of way

    Smith analyzed the 75 acre drainage basin upstream of the Henry County Medical Center in order to design stormwater conveyance and detention facilities capable of reducing peak runoff rates to pre development rates for not only the HCMC expansion plans but for future developments on other properties in the drainage area Additionally the facilities were designed and evaluated for the maximum achievable benefit to downstream properties Bailey Fork Tributary Two Flood Study Jim Adams Commercial Development Paris Tennessee L I Smith Associates Inc surveyed 26 cross sections along 6 500 feet of the upper reaches of the Bailey Fork Tributary Two in Paris and modeled the stream sections using HEC RAS to more accurately define the 100 year floodplain and floodway in accordance with FEMA requirements Private landowners had straightened this section of the stream and a new city street had been constructed about 15 years prior The channel had experienced down cutting due to the change in the hydraulics associated with the re alignment and the floodplain was determined to be much less restrictive on adjoining properties than was previously mapped This information was forwarded to the local code officers and to FEMA for upgrading the published floodplain information Wetlands Delineation and Surveys Teague Transports Jackson Tennessee L I Smith Associates Inc was the prime consultant to delineate mark and survey the perimeter of approximately 48 acres of wetlands as part of a larger project to develop a sand extraction facility on the privately owned property of Teague Transports in Jackson Madison County Tennessee This project was located along the Middle Fork of the Forked Deer River GPS control points were established for use by conventional survey methods to locate and mark the wetland s perimeter and to determine the property boundary for the total parcel of 108 acres
