  • Divinity: Original Sin Review | Lucidlogix
Beyond Divinity It preserved most of the gameplay mechanics and maintained the ambiance which was what made the original game so enticing One can feel the influence of games such as Baldur s Gate as much as party handling is concerned Ultima VII for item and world design and the battle system will bring tears of joy to those who loved Fallout I and II These elements together make for a very tactical game I found myself losing more than a few fights due to minor failures in judgments In most modern games such errors would result in no more than a slight warning No such lenience here fail and you shall howl in pain and frustration The story is not as generic but not as innovating as can be hoped for Our protagonists two of them are dropped at the shores of a small town suffering from orc raids and a sudden abundance of undead To those who would rush to fight those orcs and undead await a gruesome end You will have to solve a murder mystery rob a few graves and resolve a few minor disputes before you will have enough experience to move forward The world of Rivelon is explored slowly and painstakingly but is beautiful to behold Most of the characters you will meet in your travels will show you more than a bit of humor and some are absolutely hilarious But the game is not perfect Some minor bugs persist and annoy especially the game s tendency to corrupt save games These however are too few to mention and those have no consequence on the actual gameplay However some design choices do seem odd Whenever two characters seem to disagree amongst themselves they play rock paper and scissors however the result is always random and for some reason there are never any ties This choice of minigames to make decisions within the group is questionable Who needs a game whose result is decided by pure chance Roll a dice and be done with it Another point which could have been made better is the lack of speech in most dialogs Today it is expected from any non indie game to provide as little reading as possible Moreover well performed voice acting can do a lot for the immersion effect For example see Skyrim can you imagine reading pages on pages of dialogs without voice over Reading forces the player to focus on the text and not on the ambiance and context Also speech conveys so much more information than just the text Some may also point to the fact that the world is somewhat smaller than expected and have less ground to explore As a result this is less an open world game then its predecessors or the games mentioned above which inspired its gameplay To sum this review Original Sin is a good game It is the first really good result of a kick starter project I have seen up to date The

  • Valiant Hearts: The Great War Review | Lucidlogix
And Karl a German soldier who is married to Emile s daughter These five are joined by an adorable dog who intersects with each of their stories and helps them on their path The game is mostly a puzzle game it has a point and click esque feeling to it but is controlled completely with the keyboard The games puzzles are different from each other to a certain level but are pretty easy and sometimes even repetitive mostly summed up to find a lever connect to a base flip lever repeat although it s important to state that there are some exceptions In some parts of the game you will find the occasional minigame These minigames spice the gameplay because they give you a break from the puzzling and the story and let you appreciate other aspects of the game A great example for that is the driving minigame In which you are driving a car and trying to dodge varying obstacles sometimes it s bombs from a German zeppelin or busy traffic ect but the catch is that the obstacles appear in sync with the music in a surprisingly funny way this entices the player to pay more attention to the incredible musical choices made by the developers throughout the game and helps the player appreciate more aspects of the game The minigames canget repetitive as well but are much more exciting than the regular puzzles and therefore are not boring even after the third or fourth time you have played a certain type The games story is heavily based on the events of the First World War and as you progress through the game you unlock pieces of trivia about it an addition that I found very interesting and nicely done because the game didn t make you read that information but it referred you to it and because of the games setting I am sure many people actually read the little history lesson and received some good to know knowledge and marvelous gameplay In conclusion Valiant hearts is one of the rare games that can truly make you feel and connect with the characters and share their feelings thoughts fears and hopes The art style and music are captivating and beautiful and allows the game to channel directly into your feelings but the puzzles and minigames can get repetitive and generally boring at a certain point The game might have worked better more as a film or a graphic novel even though it does incorporate a few comic strips unlocked as achievements throughout the game but the game sucks you in with the great atmosphere and the further you progress during the story you just can t help but overseeing its flaws I would recommend this game to all of my friends well those I didn t already recommend it to as I did enjoy the full experience and I will recommend it to anyone reading Share this Story Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Reddit Digg Delicious Google E
