    worse than they already were Like everyone else in my class I did my research and came to my first day of work placement here at Manoverboard equipped with expectations questions curiosity and a bundle of nerves and lots of them It wasn t the moments of learning the ins and outs of the industry that were especially memorable though I learned a lot about how the project process works and how you may get seemingly endless revisions from clients This is a stark contrast to design school where you have the liberty of revising your work or leaving it in your ever growing pile of amateur work I also learned about maintaining consistency in branding knowing the core values of your client and translating those values visually I could go on and bore you with listing all the things design related that I learned and worked on throughout my placement but I ll spare you Read more November 10 2015 Aaron Draplin and Purposeful Design With an abundance of conferences on typography user experience web design etc designers and developers could max out their credit cards in a hurry But the real work of design happens on the ground on tables desktops coffee shops and in the community One of the first things we wanted to do as a new board of GDC MB was to bring to Winnipeg the inimitable Aaron Draplin In my estimation Draplin is the most respected designer in North America these days In no small part it s because he embodies a real desire among young and old designers to create logos identities products and inventions that have lasting value and that are based upon the tried and true work of the past Draplin is best known for his insanely beautiful logos that not

    alumni throughout Canada In a recent poll 79 percent of current staff and faculty indicated they would prefer an online source of campus news over a printed version We listened and voila UM Today is here UM Today The news site was constructed to accommodate all of the content types that were part of the original Bulletin plus a number of others Among the requirements were to carefully respect the University s organizational brand guidelines and to build the site to be fully responsive across all devices including desktop smartphone and tablet to ensure the widest possible readership The new site includes a featured top story important recent stories social media feeds RSS events feeds from the University s main site recent publicity stories community links and internal ads all of which run on an advanced WordPress customization There is also an In Focus section highlighting a particularly hot topic of interest this allows thematic content such as stories about climate change or the Olympics to be readily showcased Easy to Manage Gone are the days of laying out the printed page Manoverboard customized an already user friendly WordPress to make it easy to publish new items Stories get added

    worked with Manoverboard as well as a project manager a Flash developer and a user experience consultant to redesign its website to offer products for sale for the first time online We were very happy with the site that Manoverboard built for us The cool design and user friendly functionality of the site well represented the sophistication of the Barneys brand Karl Hermanns Barneys New York Translating the 89 year old Barneys New York brand to the growing world of online retailing Manoverboard provided a bold interface new iconography and creative direction As one of the very first Flash based e commerce websites Barneys began by offering just 100 initial products Over the course of many months we worked carefully with the the company to ensure that the site would be unlike any other online retailer and that it would roll out seamlessly and bug free Over the course of time we also proudly became known as web guys by author and designer extraordinaire Simon Doonan The new Barneys com site won Macromedia s Site of the Day award and earned the company many many thousands of devoted customers and visitors worldwide Over the next three years we worked closely
