    can be sustained indefinitely without fouling or depleting the resources that support all life on Earth NRDC Mission Statement The NRDC s office in Beijing developed a respected in house blog that reported ongoing news and initiatives related to environmental law public policy and civil society in China This blog faced numerous challenges including an overly complicated bi lingual interface and an inability to have one to one translations of posts The Natural Resources Defense Council asked Manoverboard to redesign and reorganize its blog for its China Environmental Law and Governance Project While we had designed bi lingual websites for Council of Canadians with Disabilities in French and English no one at Manoverboard either speaks or reads Mandarin This challenge was amplified as the existing site held a corpus of a few hundred posts in English and Mandarin which needed both re organizing and categorization in both languages Working closely with the NRDC Beijing team Manoverboard created a new system for categorizing legacy content that would also accommodate future blog posts We designed and developed a full featured and bi lingual blog that could provide detailed updates and information on pollution control global warming solar energy and topics related to

  • Council of Canadians with Disabilities, a case study
    visitors If we take the long view much has been achieved in making Canada more accessible and inclusive I remember a time when there was no accessible transportation when the built environment created obstacles everywhere when some were excluded from voting when TV broadcasts were not captioned when mental health issues were not spoken about when families were expected to be the main support when if you had a disability you did not even consider looking for work when segregation was the norm Tony Dolan CCD Chair After a thorough audit of the organization s thousands of documents and resources we designed a sophisticated and comprehensive taxonomy in which everything could logically reside on the new site Our goal was not find a home for nearly every document and data type on the website And from a user standpoint we identified five key buckets that would help users self identify human rights social policy transportation international and technology Designed around these topics the website was built to grow as new documents and content were added There is a stigma that persists in the design community that website accessibility means ugly pages and unstyled pages of text We set out to

    kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure Emma Goldman Over the course of six years Manoverboard designed six consecutive annual reports for JESNA For each report we produced a custom full colour and printed publication featuring the year s highlights achievements and funders Every report had a thematic focus featuring large images and a clear editorial structure that showcased the organization s latest ideas testimonials and partnerships We began the work of each report in September discussing potential themes and metaphors Working directly with the communications executive Manoverboard then provided a full design concept and gather feedback on message color tone and voice Many years we would help write key thematic copy Other years would mean hand drawn illustration of an idea or set of ideas In every case we started each annual report with a fresh eye toward what would engage JESNA readers and help them understand the organization s initiatives and importantly encourage donors to give Education is the most critical component of maintaining a society s cultural and ethical fabric JESNA worked tirelessly to engage institutions and organizations cross pollinate lessons learned
