  • Self-Defence & how to restrain an attacker.
a vicious attack Especially if they are not accompanied by strikes If an attacker is high drunk or just has a massive load of adrenalin then restraints may not be effective I understand that this is blasphemy because some Martial Arts styles are totally based on restraining and not striking an opponent You will probably have to use strikes in conjunction with restraints There is nothing worse then trying to restrain an opponent and they resist turning the situation into a sloppy wrestling match you better hope that you are stronger then your opponent if this happens Restraints may not always be the best thing to use in a multiple attack situation either There is no point holding one attacker down only to be getting kicked and punched by his her buddies You are better off hitting and running getting away from the situation Restraining an opponent may delay your exit Okay then when are restraints useful If you can t run or escape then restraints can be handy If you are enclosed in a small space when you are attacked If an attacker is armed and you manage to grab the weapon holding arm What s the best way to restrain someone As stated early you are better of striking in conjunction to restraining so that your opponent is less likely to resist Then you need to make sure that when you restrain someone the hold or lock is painful to your attacker Don t ever rely on your strength alone Pain is a great motivator to take the fight away from an opponent The best way to make sure that the restraint is painful is to make sure that the hold or lock you are using could break the bone limb captured This way if your opponent feels

  • THE BEST BLOCK IS A STRIKE!
or to follow up with another strike insurance Blocking can also be very hard to pull off in a real situation Most of us practise blocks that are not natural for us and we practise them in an unnatural controlled environment That is we practise them with a friend in the comforts of a Martial Arts studio where everybody throws a punch the same way If only real fights were the same The fact of the matter is that in the street everyone strikes differently and you haven t the foggiest what strike they are going to try to take your head off with So don t wait Do what you have to do and get out of there Remember self defence starts as soon as you feel physically threatened You do not have to wait until you are beaten half to death before you can justify fighting back You do not have to get hit at all I ll repeat that again because this is a really important statement YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET HIT AT ALL IN ORDER TO DEFEND YOURSELF The instant your opponent prepares to strike you is the best time to hit him her INTERCEPT Granted you may not always be able to launch an offensive straight away and therefore you may need to block until you can strike What are the best blocks to use There are many different types of blocking just the same as there are many different styles of fighting The 3 main ones are 1 Hard Style Blocks 2 Parries 3 Covering Blocks 1 Hard style blocks are used in the majority of Karate styles The objective is to strike and knock away your opponents striking limb Sounds hard and is hard to do in a real situation That

  • GOAL SETTING FOR MAXIMUM ACHIEVEMENT!
put it down here If you wish to take up a sport or achieve a certain level at a particular sport put it in the physical goal section Also write down any physical skills that you wish to develop 5 Social Goals How do you wish to contribute to society Who do you wish your friends to be What functions do you wish to attend 6 Possession Goals This is the section you have been waiting for Write down all the material things that you want Cars clothes jewellery property etc Make sure that with each one you write down you ask yourself Do I really want this Have fun with this section Step 3 Now that you have categorised all your goals it is important to review them all and to break them down into smaller goals Each main goal is generally made of several small goals You must break down each of your goals into the smaller goals that are required in order to achieve your main goal For example if you wish to earn 1000 net per week then you must figure out how you plan to do this Are you going to get a second job work harder at your current job increase your prices start a business or invest You must then organise your answers into smaller goals For example Main Goal Earn 1000 net per week Smaller Goal 1 increase sales Smaller Goal 2 make more cold calls Smaller Goal 3 Send Brochures to all local business and offices Smaller Goal 4 Place advertisement in local newspaper All of the smaller goals should add up to your main goal This will make your goals a lot more attainable It also helps to turn your goals into plans instead of wishes Step 4 The next

  • MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING!
them personal pace appearance and other factors create your personal opinion Performing certain activities in front of specific people can be awkward at best we all should know of the feeling of the boss looking over your shoulder a state of mind brought on by criticism in childhood etc Such feelings of awkwardness need to be eliminated for true motivation to break in Changing this situation involves becoming comfortable with the person s that you are uncomfortable with This is accomplished by getting to know them a supposedly simple task If all else fails inspiration and motivation may depend on these people leaving your life Place Landscape and living environment are also a big topic in self motivation Your living quarters need to be comfortable and this depends on really knowing yourself and what you like Too much clutter too little space and clashing objects are the main causes of low motivation here Stimulus Apart from your living space there are certain elements that cause the body to relax more then required the best example is in the living room the couch and TV Many of us spend needless hours in the same position allowing our bodies to fall into an un motivational state where even the perception of activity is nullified This is caused by the mind and body both relaxing to the extreme In a working environment relaxing both body and mind would be quite rare On the other hand relaxing either the mind or body would be quite common Depending on your activity the chances of one occurring over the other changes In office jobs or activities involving sitting down your body is given the chance to relax Typical signs are slouching and over relaxing The effect on motivation is that you begin to relax and enter a lower motivational state where you do not work to your best ability There is a simple cure for this Take a walk Stand up stretch out and go for a ten minute walk Basically change from thinking to exercising Internal Motivation Leaving your external environment aside there are major changes that you can do within your own mind It has been stated before that your motivation depends also on how your internal mind perceives your external environment Positive Thinking The practise of positive thinking involves your mental perception of tasks Implication is simple think using positive terms to describe a situation So now when problems arise they are challenges when situations are bad they are interesting Positivity does not change the situation it changes how you perceive and handle it In positive thinking the most important principle is not to swear or curse Swearing is a form of negative energy that puts your mind into a low motivational state among other things Negative Thinking As opposed to positive negative thinking is a reflection on the past Do not think of the present or future in a negative manner It is much harder to think of the present and future

  • Mixed Martial Arts Peak Fitness Fast!
it Okay on with the peak training Firstly design your training program Grab a calendar and mark your goal date on it It makes it easier to visualise if you are training for a specific event like a competition or a social event wedding etc Next write down some clear goals Don t go crazy Keep them simple and small Several small progressive goals add up to one big goal You may want to lose weight gain muscle get fitter increase flexibility improve kicks or all of the above Next you will need to choose how you intend to achieve these physical goals A good peak fitness program contains cardio vascular exercise strength flexibility training and a healthy eating plan Now that you have a rough plan it is time to start The first week or two you should ease into it slowly Exercise 3 days per week and get plenty of rest Make sure that each of your training days is separated by rest days Week three four you should start to pump it up Increase your training to five days a week However don t go all out in each training session For example Monday 100 effort Tuesday 75 Wednesday 100 Thursday 75 Friday 100 rest on Saturday Sunday You should notice that you need more sleep during this phase of the peak training program You may also notice that you are eating more hopefully good food Both of these effects are good signs that your program is working and your body and metabolism are developing The last week or two of your program week five six you should be pushing it hard Again use the five day schedule except this time each day is 100 effort that s exactly why you could never maintain this program all

  • THE "GREATEST MARTIAL ARTIST" OF ALL TIME ?
greatest all around Martial Artist of all time 2 The greatest fighter of all time 1 As I have said before the Martial Arts are extremely vast They are a way of life Nearly anything that aids your growth in life can be characterized as Martial Arts Asking Who is the greatest all around Martial Artist of all time is an even more in depth question than asking Who is the best musician athlete medical practitioner etc The only way to answer these questions is by personal opinion We could generalize by using statistics but as you know statistics can be inaccurate 2 The greatest fighter of all time is much easier to calculate statistically or form opinions about Lets pretend for example sake that there are only 2 candidates for the title of the greatest fighter of all time even though there are as many candidates as are fighters living on this planet Lets call them A and B To calculate statistically the greatest fighter of all time between the two they would have to fight to the death while someone noted the results As with all statistics the experiment would have to be run several times We would have to bring A and B back to life and run the experiment again Then we would have to repeat the whole process of having them fight and bringing them back to life 100 times or so Again let us pretend in test 1 A won 51 and B won 49 This result does not mean that if we ran the experiment again B would win especially if we change the environment or circumstances Now that we have thoroughly proved that there is no such thing as the greatest Martial Artist or fighter of all time let us pretend for

  • A MARTIAL ARTIST'S VIEW OF BOXING!
yourself at all times and not dropping your hands when out of punching range Another obvious advantage was fitness although boxing training is hardcore and a few hard rounds of the pads could seriously fatigue even the fittest newcomer One of the differences I found hard to adjust to in boxing was the footwork Cutting off the ring is nothing new to any full contact Martial Artist but I found cutting off the ring in boxing was more to do with taking steps and stalking whereas in Martial Arts a well placed kick can cut off the ring or sparring area On the pads also setting your feet for the body shots was a new experience I hadn t really concentrated on body shots when working the pads for Martial Arts and it took a while to get used to Another area that was new was the head movement Bobbing and weaving isn t used as frequently in the Arts but is essential in boxing to avoid punishment and was drilled by shadow boxing ducking and evading the pads and on the punch bags Before my first boxing match I worried about using kicks if I got under pressure and muscle memory took over Getting disqualified in my first bout wouldn t have been a great start even if it were a good kick After running through some drills on the pad it was time to glove up and box I controlled the adrenaline flow and relaxed as much as I could Another advantage of having experience in a competition environment The first round was quiet with myself and my opponent circling and jabbing to get the distance The second round was a complete contrast as the distance suddenly closed and the fight turned into a brawl The body shots
