  • Set It Off at The Roxy in Los Angeles - Music Connection
leading a symphony as he conducted the crowd through a perfectly paced set list It s true for the entire band as without any one of the members something would be sorely missing but Carson especially is a force to be reckoned with It s hard to believe that there was ever a time where he wasn t a frontman as his complete and utter command managed to help him connect with everyone in the crowd If he wasn t holding a fans hand a gesture that most times seemed as if he did it without even thinking drawing support straight through their fingertips he was throwing himself into the crowd and standing on top of it Yes Standing The group who formed in 2008 has certainly done their time and they have certainly put in the work growing from a pop rock band without any standout features Baby You Don t Tripajaharda EP to a quick flirtation with something a little darker Horrible Kids they ve finally landed on a perfect amalgamation of pristine pop and powerful rock The quartet has been flying under the radar since discovering themselves and their sound but it doesn t seem they ll stay that way for long Closing out the night with thank yous and a speech about their journey and how they re nowhere near done it was clear how passionate Set It Off are as Carson looked particularly moved looking out over the crowd It s one thing to read bands thanking their fans but it s entirely another to witness the emotion overflowing from an artist which only makes us root for them more With any luck we ll see them selling out far larger venues and with even more luck it will be very soon Text and photos

shredding and showcased the depth of this band s musical ability he apparently also has a punk pop side project that s worth a listen See More Self Help Fest in San Bernardino MC Speaks with August Burns Red Between the Buried and Me wasted no time taking the stage next and entertained fans with over an hour of material spanning the band s entire discography including a song from their 2002 self titled release All five members left everything on the stage though the crowd surprisingly didn t seem as engaged as a usual BTBAM show perhaps the new queen like release kept some of the hardcore followers from attending Read More ALBUM REVIEW Between the Buried and Me Coma Ecliptic 9 10 If there was anything to take away from this dual headlining performance it s what a difference a great audio engineer can make When August Burns Red took the stage guitars were muddied by thick bass and out of phase drums One would assume that the room was just not built to handle such loud noise but once BTBAM began to perform it became clear that it wasn t the room but the mix Every solo every pinch harmonic hell every drum fill came through crystal clear for the final act making one wonder why August Burns Red doesn t find a similar live sound to help fans hear their technical guitar riffs Perhaps they ve just never heard their mix from the crowd s perspective Whatever the reason may be it should be addressed Text by Andy Mesecher Photo ABR at Self Help Fest by Victoria Patneaude Disclaimer The words expressed in photo blog reviews do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Music Connection Magazine Tags August Burns Red between the buried and me Previous

  • Uneasy Listening: An Evening With Clint Mansell - Music Connection Magazine
instruments a piano player a bassist a full percussionist a lead guitarist and Clint on computer keys light guitar support Before performing Moon Mansell gave insight to how he could relate with a story about isolation admitting that because many Angelinos are imports just how alone one can feel in the great city of Angels He lightened the mood by explaining a meeting with Madonna he once had and how confident he felt afterwards only to find a left over In N Out fry hanging from his lapel likely from his dinner before the meeting Like any great rockstar performance Mansell saved his best for last performing a three song mashup from The Fountain He and the band left the audience in a state of euphoria by ending the set with Death is the Road to Awe Read More Clint Mansell Discusses Stoker Video Game Composing more Additional highlights Mansell explained what a great human being writer Hubert Cubby Selby Jr Requiem for a Dream was and how he would be nowhere without Cubby He then performed the song in honor of the writer Seeing a young fan cry as the strings of Requiem for a Dream rang the two note melody we ve all come to love It feels a bit ironic that the soundtrack in which Mansell is most appreciated The Fountain has one of the lower critical ratings out of all the films he s been a part of Just as someone once told Clint Mansell The best way to get back at a critic is to outlive them Disclaimer The words expressed in photo blog reviews do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Music Connection Magazine Tags clint mansell requiem for a dream the fountain Previous Story Bruce Springsteen at Los Angeles Sports Arena Next Story

  • Bruce Springsteen at Los Angeles Sports Arena - Music Connection Magazine
the time I got to The River I had taken notice of the things that bond people to their lives I figured I could make a record big enough to contain those things maybe I would get a little closer to the answers I was looking for and the home I was trying to find Walking out to full on house lights and a steady chorus of Bruuuuuuuuuuce chants Springsteen and his eight member band jumped straight into Meet Me In The City Tonight an unreleased track originally written between 1979 and 1980 and unsurprisingly just as good as classic Springsteen of that era The River followed in order From Sherry Darling the second album track Springsteen worked the crowd from the front of the stage as well as a walkway toward the middle of the floor allowing fans in the wings of the arena as well as the back to get closer to The Boss After performing the entire 1980 double album 20 songs Springsteen and his E Street Band were just getting warmed up Three simple words That s The River were said at the conclusion of the classic album And as if Springsteen and the boys had just walked on stage the music and energy continued as Los Angeles was treated to a dozen more songs in 85 minutes the length of most artists full concerts Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band do it with class there was no real encore The band never left the stage Springsteen simply said Alright let s go and the house lights lit up and the band kicked into some of the greatest songs ever written Born To Run Rosalita Dancing In The Dark and Tenth Avenue Freeze Out But it was one song that really seemed to hit home with the Los Angeles crowd earlier that evening Wrecking Ball Not only did the song soar musically but it had a special connection with the venue itself Springsteen introduced the song by saying These are the last shows at the L A Sports Arena they are going to knock this beautiful place down It was a moment that made the Angelinos in attendance realize how special these shows really were Text and photos by Kevin Estrada Disclaimer The words expressed in photo blog reviews do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Music Connection Magazine Tags bruce springsteen The River Previous Story A R Team Promoted at Round Hill Music Next Story Uneasy Listening An Evening With Clint Mansell 0 Shares Music Connection Published since 1977 Music Connection magazine is a monthly music trade publication catering to musicians industry pro s and support services Music Connection exists to serve artists and music people to offer connections to the unconnected and to provide exclusive information that can help our readers take their music to the next level Related articles Artists Against Hunger Poverty More Industry News February 25 2013 Album Review Mindi Abair Wild Heart Album Reviews June 23 2014 Jared Leto
