  • Stirling stars at the NEC | Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show
    and the chance to meet a motor racing legend Sir Stirling Moss OBE is set to star at this year s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show Sixty years since his world famous Mille Miglia victory the motor racing icon is set to draw the crowds when he meets visitors signs autographs and answers any burning questions during a Q A session on the second day of the show Saturday 14th November at Birmingham s NEC Autograph sessions will take place in Hall 5 on stand 210 at 11 30am and 4 15pm and the Q A session will begin at 3 15pm In conjunction with The Signature Store Sir Stirling will also be signing copies of his new book My Racing Life within the Silverstone Auctions area in Hall 2 at 12 45pm A pictorial history of his illustrious career the book has been launched to coincide with the 60th anniversary of his ground breaking Mille Miglia victory in which he and navigator Denis Jenkinson smashed the existing race time in a Mercedes 300 SLR to set an unbeaten record of ten hours seven minutes and 48 seconds He will relive some of the thrilling takes from his glittering motor racing career and answer some probing questions posed by TV s Mike Brewer on the Wheeler Dealers Live Stage at 11am As part of a packed agenda he will also meet up with a range of classic vehicle clubs during the day Here s where you can see him throughout the day 10 00am Visit to Triumph Sports Six Club in Hall 3 Stand 585 10 30am Visit to Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs in Hall 5 Stand 675 11 00am Stirling on Stage Interview with Mike Brewer The Wheeler Dealers Live Stage in Hall 5 11 30am Autograph

  • Beautiful Heritage Motor Centre cars on display at NEC Classic | Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show
    to fit with the show s theme She s a Beauty First of the trio is a 1953 Royal ceremonial parade Land Rover 86 Land Rovers have played a part in the Queen s ceremonial and off duty life since ascending the throne but this was one of the first of many With a specially designed rear platform for the Royal party to wave to the crowds the claret painted short wheelbase model took part in the Queen s six months Commonwealth tour which included Australia Ne Zealand and Africa When they were not flown to their next destination the Royal vehicles were driven In Australia seven officers and 104 soldiers formed a Royal car company which included three months training including driving at ceremonial low speeds The Land Rover is joined by a 1965 Alvis convertible which has bodywork by Swiss coachbuilder Graber The company which was in business from 1927 until 1927 bodied many European chassis but its alliance with Alvis was one of its strongest having become the Alvis distributor for Switzerland in 1048 Less somber than regular Park Ward bodied saloon models the full four seater drophead was an elegant alternative to a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud Bentley S series drophead Bringing the BMIHT story more up to date the final of the trio is Lady Penelope s FAB 1 limousine from the 2004 film Designed by Thunderbirds boffin Brains it s rumoured to be powered by a secret jet engine and has wings and a hydrofoil to take on the shenanigans of the modern day villain In addition HMC staff will be talking about the Museum s new Collections Centre which opens for preview viewings for three weeks in November before closing temporarily whilst the Museum is refurbished The Collections Centre will reopen along with

  • Rare Range Rover Convertible heads to NEC Classic Auction | Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show
    Auctions last sale of the year at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show Starting life as a 1973 Range Rover Suffix B the car was converted in the late Eighties by Special Vehicle Conversions who specialise in bespoke convertible conversions for Range Rovers of the period The rare right hand drive convertible has covered just 62 500 miles from new and having recently been restored to its original Special Vehicle Conversions specification it will be sold at The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show auction with an estimate of 35 000 40 000 The car was apparently won by the previous owner in a card game in the Nineties who then stored it in a lock up as he didn t have space in his garages The vendor heard of the story and sought to try and find the car again in 2014 After trying to locate the car and with the help of Land Registry records it was uncovered in superb condition with its undersealed chassis still in fine fettle Later that year the car was treated to an eight month nut and bolt restoration costing 20 000 which included the recommission of its 3 5 litre V8 engine The convertible conversion heads to The NEC Classic Motor Show Sale in superb condition ready to be enjoyed by its next owner Arwel Richards Classic Car Consignor at Silverstone Auctions spoke about the Range Rover and said This classic Range Rover convertible conversion is a car worthy of the modern day James Bond but has a story akin to that of 007 too Not only does this convertible conversion have unique provenance but it s based on a truly superb early right hand drive Range Rover Suffix B and has covered a mere 62 500 miles I doubt you ll find

  • Classic American’s shortlisted for Car of the Year final | Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show
    have made the finals in a national competition to find the Classic American magazine Car of the Year competition Their cars will be shown at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show where the overall winner will be announced on Sunday afternoon Stephan Longworth from Manchester has owned his Ford Thunderbird for four years Coaxed into the purchase by his wife he says he s gobsmacked his former concours car has got this far It s my first classic car I m amazed I ve reached the final shortlist When Nigel Perring s Thunderbird was written off a friend showed him his Buick Electra It s appropriate we re going back to the NEC because a friend showed me my Buick while I was at the show It s done just 12 500 miles and even the interior is mint Ken Bargh is a veteran of the American car scene and his original specification Mustang GT is an excellent example He s had it since 1999 alongside a GMC Safari day van and a Ford Ranchero pickup I m under no illusion I ll win but I m thrilled I ve made it to the finals Bob Mitchell is known as Packard Bob unsurprisingly as he has four I ve been shortlisted with two of my other cars but this was a Holy Grail for me and I spent a decade looking for it I m looking forward to the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show Another veteran of the American car scene is Mark Sumpter who sold two Cadillacs and a Plymouth Superbird to buy this rare triple black Chrysler 300F I feel a bit of a fraud even getting this far because I bought mine in this condition To win would be fantastic A pair of Plymouths round off the

    la crème of the classic car scene fourteen of the UK s finest classic cars These cars have all been selected as previous show winners chosen for their immaculate presentation and condition There are a range of marques eras and styles represented spanning pre war through to modern classics An overall winner will be chosen by Mike Brewer of Discovery Channel s Wheeler Dealers on the final day of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show Cars range from Chris Penny s modified Ford Escort to Alexander Louden s 1939 MG TB Ian Kimpton may have only bought his MG Maestro earlier this year but he s steadily improved its condition and was chosen at MGLive to represent the MG Car Club It s not a concours car I don t aspire to that level of perfection because it s mostly in the mind and you re setting yourself up for failure I m not afraid to drive it even though it s very nice it s not too good to use Don Townsend has owned his Mazda MX 5 since 2002 though it s only really been a concours car for the last 12 months It s only really taken off this year when I won best Mk1 at a local show It s also won the Best kept Mk1 award at the club national Now Mk1s stand out it s only right that we keep it as nice as we can Paul Griffies is only the second owner of his Triumph TR6 having bought it from his uncle almost thirty years ago I m happy to have won the TR Register Masterclass but to win the Showcase would be the icing on the cake Doug Blair s Renault 5 Turbo 2 evokes memories of Group B rally cars while
