  • Lancaster Beauties Compete For Miss World Crown | Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show
    holding a very unique version of Miss World at this year s show hosting a classic beauty contest with six stunning cars from around the globe competing for the winner s crown Show attendees will be able to vote for a winner whilst the beauty queen cars dazzle fellow enthusiasts with their international glamour Visitors will cast their vote on the Lancaster Insurance stand for the duration of the show with boxes stationed beside each car and the people s favourite scheduled to be revealed on Sunday 15th November Each car will also be accompanied by its very own beauty champion who will tell attendees about the car on display and campaign for the cars country of origin to win Information on all six cars a Gordon Keeble Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider VW Karmann Ghia Cabriolet Volvo P1800 Sports Coupe 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible and a Renault Alpine A110 will be shown on the Lancaster Insurance website from 2nd November to give visitors an exclusive preview in the run up to the show Richard Morley Operations Director at Lancaster Insurance commented The She s a Beauty show theme lended itself perfectly to a classic version of Miss World showcasing stunning

    industry something that we re passionate about being involved in The addition of the Lancaster Insurance Initiative of the Year Award gives clubs the opportunity to shout about new activities that they ve introduced from using social media to promote membership creating a new event in the calendar or forming a unique service through members We are all faced with a challenge to ensure that each club s legacy lives on and every endeavour big or small is a step forward in attracting new members and guaranteeing that the next generation of officials are eager to take up our mantle Last year s two new categories acknowledging clubs tireless charity work plus the role of youngsters in the movement were both received at the ceremony Morley added We re proud to once again be sponsoring the C SC Awards and to be celebrating all the achievements of clubs and their members alike The awards evening is another great opportunity for us to meet fellow enthusiasts and to hear about all of the triumphs of the year We can t wait to see you there And now is the time for you to enter the awards We need your nominations for the categories judged before the event see below while a selection of awards will be decided at Birmingham s NEC The ceremony takes place in the Hilton Metropole Hotel just a short walk from the exhibition halls this year at the end of the first day Friday 13th November Only one entry will be accepted per club for each award and entries should be accompanied by a letter from a senior officer confirming them as the club s submissions Please send them with photos and explanations by Friday 16 October to David Evans by e mail to david e haymarket

  • Motor Sport magazine pays tribute to racing driver Graham Hill | Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show
    Hill is unique in motor sport history The British sporting icon is the only driver to have won racing s unofficial Triple Crown the Monaco Grand Prix which he won five times between 1963 and 69 the Indianapolis 500 in 1966 and the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1972 Hill won two Formula 1 World Championships for BRM in 1962 and Lotus in 68 but lost his life when the plane he was flying crashed in thick fog on November 29 1975 Forty years after that tragedy Motor Sport magazine celebrates his life and career with a special display on its stand at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show A stockbroker s son from Hampstead Graham didn t pass his driving test until he was in his 20s when starting his time as a mechanic for Lotus founder Colin Chapman who wasn t convinced that Hill had the necessary driving skills Beginning with Cooper and Lotus sports cars in 1956 his F1 debut was driving for Lotus in the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix his session cut short by a wheel falling off the 16 he was driving From 1962 to 1964 Hill was on top form and beyond those three years he racked up more successes His tally records he won two F1 World Championships as well as the 1966 Indy 500 and Le Mans in 1972 Winning the Monaco three years in succession and five in total he amply demonstrated his skills and wins in Formula 2 touring car and Tasman races reinforced that He moved to Brabham for the 1971 season while also driving Formula 2s but had set up his own team for the 1973 season driving a Shadow which was replaced by a Lola for 1974 For 1975 Hill decided to build his own car but

  • Silver Aero to shine at NEC | Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show
    and Chevette Club stand at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show The car which was first shown at the 1980 Birmingham Motor Show as a styling exercise was intended to show the strengths of the Luton design studio The project involved turbocharging a Cavalier Sportshatch which had been fitted with Bill Blydenstein s 2 4 litre conversion kit before creating a bodykit to match The aerodynamic qualities of the new panels were impressive lowering the Cavalier Sportshatch drag coefficient to 0 32Cd and effectively previewing the later Manta GTE The car was also fitted with Compomotive alloys not that they could be seen behind the aerodynamic flush fitting caps The intention was to offer the aerodynamic panelwork as officially approved accessories through the dealer network as well as to show there was still life in the MK1 Cavalier shape Kevin Bricknall of the Cavalier and Chevette Club said As we are celebrating 40 years of the Cavalier Mk1 and Chevette both Wayne Cherry styled cars we thought it would be brilliant to have Silver Aero on the stand Silver Aero was the last car to be designed at the Luton Design Department before its closure and having Silver Aero at
