Floathouse 2015 Panasonic LX100 Short Thriller Film https www youtube com watch v UR7Clt6pEgo This was my first trial with the LX100 Both films have been heavily graded and lots of cropping as well At some point I think I pushed the magnification well over 400 on a lowlight shot which was too much but the camera got tested to the limit Shot in 4K after scaling panning converted to DNXHD 1080 for grading and finalizing For settings I recommend googling LX100 hackermovies and Peter Gregg s videos on youtube December 26 2015 Rated 4 out of 5 by LX100 User Recommended with Reservations The main reason I bought this camera is twofold one is using it 4k video function to shoot teen basketball games and the other is using it as a backup stills camera It does an excellent job for my first goal The output without much editing serves me very well by my standard At this point it is still safe to say that this is the best affordable 4k camera out there Its 15 minute limit is easy to deal with for my purpose Only recently did I notice that it breaks up the file in two when the file size reaches 5G without letting you know You might have trouble to stitch the two part together smoothly because it is a hard break of some sort However I can t say the same thing about the IQ in the stills department For one thing its JPEG output is nothing to write home about As a proud owner of Panasonic LC1 I am so surprised that Panasonic has since regressed so much from its glorious days of LC1 in its JPEG processing I am a raw shooter so it doesn t bother me that much but still it would be nice to have a nice JPEG version so you can use right away I know you can adjust the settings to optimize the output but why can t you make it decent to begin with in default The other thing is if you use 16 9 aspect ratio the edge softness is severe You have to stop down the aperture all the way to 8 to somehow avoid it At this point the sensor probable will reach the diffraction territory Usability wise I love the mechanical aperture and shutter speed settings from the days of LC1 and L1 I am so glad that Panasonic has kept that tradition One small complaint is about the tactile feelings of the video button It s a bit recessed and sometimes you think you have pressed it hard enough but the video actually didn t turn on I have missed a few opportunities because of this To avoid the mistake I now always make sure I check the indicators on the screen after I press the button It also happened to me a few times that when I turned it on the zoom refused to come out and I got a system error or something like that So far I have fixed the problem by pulling out the battery and restart the camera but I am a bit concerned that the problem may get worse down the road and cannot be fixed by the simple trick All in all I d recommend the camera mainly for its 4k capabilities with caveats about its stills and product quality December 12 2015 Rated 5 out of 5 by toxictabasco Mission Accomplished I got the LX100 because I already have a DSLR system I owned this camera for 6 months and it goes everywhere with me The manual controls are simple and easy to use and fast to operate The Leica lens is great wide open and has very good image quality The 4K provides a manageable file that s easy to process with amazing results Like my DSLRs the LX100 has back button focus and built in time lapse This is the only camera I shoot in full manual Even in manual focus the AF will snap to focus when the AE AF button is pressed and it has the override and focus peaking In video I can pull focus while shooting Nevertheless battery life is good viewfinder is good AF is fast and accurate and a lot of custom features and programmable buttons The LX100 makes a great street and travel companion It s compact powerful and feels good in the hands It s designed for photographers who know how to manipulate exposure and like the feel of shooting manual It reminds me of the old SLR film and Rangefinder cameras of the 90s but with a lot of modern features The only issue I had with the LX100 was learning the menu system That s because It has a lot of functions and features to go through But once I understood how things worked I customized it for my shooting needs And it s fast and easy to access the features I want Overall this is a great little camera that has a lot of modern functions and features The lens provides great sharp and clear photo and video And the manual controls make shooting fun but it takes time to learn the Menu system Remember this is a small point and shoot camera IMO one of the best designed cameras on the market November 29 2015 Rated 5 out of

by 25 reviewers Rated 5 out of 5 by Alex Great performer for the guerrilla filmmaker I had been putting off getting aboard the 4K video train since the news of the GH4 broke out This is the GH4 s little cousin It s got the same engine inside combined with sweet sweet Leica optics I decided to go for it and went for the LX100 This is a beaut for what it cost and its size I am very satisfied I have shot several projects with it Admittedly it s no BMPCC if you want to grade it heavily it might not have the same push but if you know its limitations perhaps you can work around them It s so small and light Add a tripod and couple of LED lights and you re good to go No HDMI out feed during recording workaround using mobile or tablet and installing the Panasonic Image App connecting the two by wifi or NFC Here are two short films I shot with Panasonic LX100 Talk About Last Night 2015 Panasonic LX100 Short Thriller Film https www youtube com watch v sASBNfSE5WQ Floathouse 2015 Panasonic LX100 Short Thriller Film https www youtube com watch v UR7Clt6pEgo This was my first trial with the LX100 Both films have been heavily graded and lots of cropping as well At some point I think I pushed the magnification well over 400 on a lowlight shot which was too much but the camera got tested to the limit Shot in 4K after scaling panning converted to DNXHD 1080 for grading and finalizing For settings I recommend googling LX100 hackermovies and Peter Gregg s videos on youtube December 26 2015 Rated 4 out of 5 by LX100 User Recommended with Reservations The main reason I bought this camera is twofold one is using it 4k video function to shoot teen basketball games and the other is using it as a backup stills camera It does an excellent job for my first goal The output without much editing serves me very well by my standard At this point it is still safe to say that this is the best affordable 4k camera out there Its 15 minute limit is easy to deal with for my purpose Only recently did I notice that it breaks up the file in two when the file size reaches 5G without letting you know You might have trouble to stitch the two part together smoothly because it is a hard break of some sort However I can t say the same thing about the IQ in the stills department For one thing its JPEG output is nothing to write home about As a proud owner of Panasonic LC1 I am so surprised that Panasonic has since regressed so much from its glorious days of LC1 in its JPEG processing I am a raw shooter so it doesn t bother me that much but still it would be nice to have a nice JPEG version so you can use right away I know you can adjust the settings to optimize the output but why can t you make it decent to begin with in default The other thing is if you use 16 9 aspect ratio the edge softness is severe You have to stop down the aperture all the way to 8 to somehow avoid it At this point the sensor probable will reach the diffraction territory Usability wise I love the mechanical aperture and shutter speed settings from the days of LC1 and L1 I am so glad that Panasonic has kept that tradition One small complaint is about the tactile feelings of the video button It s a bit recessed and sometimes you think you have pressed it hard enough but the video actually didn t turn on I have missed a few opportunities because of this To avoid the mistake I now always make sure I check the indicators on the screen after I press the button It also happened to me a few times that when I turned it on the zoom refused to come out and I got a system error or something like that So far I have fixed the problem by pulling out the battery and restart the camera but I am a bit concerned that the problem may get worse down the road and cannot be fixed by the simple trick All in all I d recommend the camera mainly for its 4k capabilities with caveats about its stills and product quality December 12 2015 Rated 5 out of 5 by toxictabasco Mission Accomplished I got the LX100 because I already have a DSLR system I owned this camera for 6 months and it goes everywhere with me The manual controls are simple and easy to use and fast to operate The Leica lens is great wide open and has very good image quality The 4K provides a manageable file that s easy to process with amazing results Like my DSLRs the LX100 has back button focus and built in time lapse This is the only camera I shoot in full manual Even in manual focus the AF will snap to focus when the AE AF button is pressed and it has the override and focus peaking In video I can pull focus while shooting Nevertheless battery life is good viewfinder is good AF is fast and accurate and a lot of custom features and programmable buttons The LX100 makes a great street and travel companion It s compact powerful and feels good in the hands It s designed for photographers who know how to manipulate exposure and like the feel of shooting manual It reminds me of the old SLR film and Rangefinder cameras of the 90s but with a lot of modern features The only issue I had with the LX100 was learning the menu system That s because It has a lot of functions and features to go through But once I understood how things worked I customized it for my shooting needs And it s fast and easy to access the features I want Overall this is a great little camera that has a lot of modern functions and features The lens provides great sharp and clear photo and video And the manual controls make shooting fun but it takes time to learn the Menu system Remember this is a small point and shoot camera IMO one of the best designed cameras on the market November 29 2015 Rated 5 out of 5 by AAGMEX Lumix LX100 Excellent product small size very friendly and photo quality
