  • BHUTAN: Revisiting the Journeys – 2011 Visiting the Remote Village of Rukha - Traveller's Tales
    to be in Hidden Bhutan Rukha We awoke in the morning to the distant sound of the cockerel The children were ready for school We watched through the window as they made their way through the rice terraces and thought how lucky we were to be staying in such a beautiful peaceful place The children of Rukha One of the fishermen of Rukha showed us how the fish are put on bamboo sticks so they can be smoked over the fire They have been given permits to fish which generates some income for the village They were very busy as they had to send several hundred to Thimphu for the Royal wedding celebrations Fishing nets Rukha At another house a lady was weaving bamboo strips A pattern emerged within a square Later that day I was beckoned into the house to watch whilst the square was finished into a beautiful bowl I am now the proud owner of that bowl and have a constant reminder of the lovely people of Rukha and their wonderful hospitality and craftsmanship The hidden village of Rukha Bhutan We were very sad to leave the village and what we experienced there will stay with us forever The warmth and generosity of the people typified all we had experienced in Bhutan so with heavy hearts we made our farewells PJ is proud to be working with the villagers and headman of Rukha and Jigme Dorje Wangchuk National Park officials towards commmunity based tourism initiatives in the area If you d like to visit Rukha our tour Exploring Hidden Bhutan visits the village For more information about tailormade trips to Bhutan contact Kath and to see some more beautiful images of Rukha see our shutterfly pages Bhutan Bhutanese culture community based tourism in Bhutan Rukha traditional dress Did you like this article Share it with your friends Tweet 4 Responses to BHUTAN Revisiting the Journeys 2011 Visiting the Remote Village of Rukha Majika says August 29 2015 at 4 02 pm Hello I am planning a trip around southeast regions of Asia How does the situation with communication look in those areas Do people speak any bits of english or is it impossible for an outsider to communicate with the locals I d appreciate every piece of information you can provide me with Majika Karina Moreton says September 4 2015 at 5 07 pm Dear Majika Thanks for getting in touch English used to be the second language in Burma so there are some extremely well educated people and a lot who can speak English but it depends where you are hoping to travel You can contact our office directly on 44 0 1608 676821 info panoramicjourneys com to find out more details about how we can help create an adventure of your own even if just for 2 days You can also find out more information about the great trips we offer and the bespoke trips we design on our website http www panoramicjourneys com Hope
