    views Despite early morning clouds and haze we were not disappointed The views of Cho Oyu Everest and Makalu the Ngozumba glacier and Gokyo lake were outstanding The rest of the day was spent napping drinking tea and visiting with other trekkers and guides in the lodge A few minutes ago we spoke to Ed at Khumbu Lodge in Namche He rejoined Alice and Ron on the trail earlier today

    bird skies the Mark and Todd set off with our main guide and a porter climbing quickly up through high meadows and scrambling up rock bands and strapping on microspikes to cross the edge of the glacier We reached Cho La pass after a couple hours steady climbing and celebrated with a few photos on that windswept ridge before working down the steep west side in to the upper reaches of the Gokyo valley A flock of lovely iridescent blue swallows and a couple groups of Tibetan cocks like a cross between a pheasant chicken and ptarmigan as we made our way across rocky meadows over a ridge and down the long valley to the small village of Dragnag where we paused for a pot of tea while free roaming yaks sniffed our gear Weary from a long climb and descent we decided to push on and crossed the lower reaches of the massive Ngozumba Glacier a maze of loose rocks frozen lakes blue ice cliffs and a pathway climbing over down and around obstacles before the final climb up the far moraine and down to Gokyo our home for 2 nights Amazing mountain views today especially the imposing flanks

    ice on the edges or completely frozen surfaces The day started out w a little more cloud than has been the usual routine The collision of cloud and massive stands of mountain made for interesting vistas After a quick two hours we arrived in Chhukhung at the Sunrise Eco Guest House Another fine teahouse These establishments are excellent value for money by no means plush but an excellent way to see the Himalaya The toilet a squatter basically a hole in the floor porceline tilts steeply down to a wall and was covered by an invisible sheen of ice if one was unaware of the ice during positioning oneself to use the toilet could have the experience hazardous to one s health and pride We snacked on some hot RaRa veg noodles and vegitables before heading out on another acclimatization hike up Chhukhung Ri the highest we have been yet The last 30 minutes was brutal each step a lesson in gravity and gas law By the time we made the saddle at 5400 the clouds had closed in and it was snowing Without any view to coax us up to the true summit at another 100m above us we
